  1. REDUX from https://aseannow.com/topic/1325679-takeaways-from-the-trump-hush-money-trial-opening-statements-and-the-first-witness/ On 4/23/2024 at 8:28 AM, Walker88 said: All of that makes the jury more willing to accept the legal definition of the laws NY State alleges trump broke, JerryM: That might not be so cut & dry: Though the crime of falsifying business records is nominally a misdemeanor, the Manhattan district attorney’s office almost always charges it as a felony. Still, the Trump case stands apart. The Times could identify only two other felony cases in Manhattan over the past decade in which defendants were indicted on charges of falsifying business records but no other crime. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/09/magazine/alvin-bragg-donald-trump-trial.html
  2. Once outspoken critic of Gaetz, Mullin now considers Trump AG pick Published November 20, 2024 NB Mullin Republican House member now Senator from OK Gaetz made a name for himself in October 2023 when he led a successful charge to oust former speaker Mike McCarthy. Shortly after, Mullin — who previously served with Gaetz in the House — told CNN that Republican House members disdained Gaetz's boasting about sexual conquests. “He would brag about how he would crush (erectile dysfunction) medicine and chase it with an energy drink so he could go all night,” Mullin told the news network. In an interview with Meet the Press Sunday, Mullin said the House should "absolutely" release a report from the House on Gaetz's misconduct. Mullin argued Gaetz's background will matter when it comes time for the Senate to approve his cabinet appointment. https://www.publicradiotulsa.org/local-regional/2024-11-20/once-outspoken-critic-of-gaetz-mullin-now-considers-trump-ag-pick
  3. As you may remember TBL I was on here repeatedly saying the cases against Trump particularly those in NY were a distraction. To the point that many on here even suggested I was a Trump double agent. -- E.G. from topic Why the hush money case against Donald Trump is on shaky ground On 4/26/2024 at 12:35 PM, Roo Island said: An opinion piece from a conservative republican. Biased a bit? JerryM: That's OK. I've posted comments from left-leaning former federal prosecutors who are critical of the case and people don't like those either.

  6. BREAKING NEWS: Gaetz withdraws as Trump’s attorney general pick OOPS didn't see topic started. Todd Blanche is eminently qualified if he wants full AG.

John Thune (R-S.D.), who was elected Republican leader this week, hasn’t ruled out recess appointments, but he has also acknowledged they could be procedurally difficult to achieve if there is enough GOP opposition. “All this is a process. But I don’t think any of those things are necessarily off the table. I think we have to have all the options on the table,” Thune told Fox News. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/4993461-trump-cabinet-5-takeaways

  10. They were more willing to believe something like this: September 6, 2024 -- NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump suggested to business leaders Thursday that his plans to increase tariffs on foreign imports would solve seemingly unrelated challenges such as the rising cost of child care in the U.S. The GOP presidential nominee promised to lead what he called a “national economic renaissance” by increasing tariffs, slashing regulations to boost energy production and drastically cutting government spending as well as corporate taxes for companies that produce in the U.S. “We’re going to be taking in trillions of dollars, and as much as child care is talked about as being expensive, it’s — relatively speaking — not very expensive, compared to the kind of numbers we’ll be taking in,” he said. https://apnews.com/article/trump-economy-harris-corporate-taxes-15ba5ecfdf5e907bd9b2c349b07222b8
  11. As I have mentioned earlier, Project2025 will be the farm team for many Trump appointments: Brendan Carr wrote the FCC chapter in ‘Project 2025.’ Now he’s Trump’s pick for the agency Updated 3:10 PM EST, Mon November 18, 2024 -- President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, wasted no time in stating his priorities on Sunday night. Just one hour after thanking the president for the appointment, Carr wrote on X, “We must dismantle the censorship cartel and restore free speech rights for everyday Americans.” Carr and Trump’s powerful ally Elon Musk immediately replied with one word of affirmation: “Based.” https://edition.cnn.com/2024/11/18/media/brendan-carr-trump-fcc-nominee-project-2025/index.html

But I don’t think any of those things are necessarily off the table. I think we have to have all the options on the table,” Thune told Fox News. “And these nominees deserve their day in court. They deserve a hearing, a confirmation hearing, an opportunity to be vetted,” he added. “And the Senate will perform its constitutional role under advise and consent.” https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/4993461-trump-cabinet-5-takeaways
  13. This topic is about cabinet appointments that need (short of recess appointments) Senate confirmation and, for right now, the ones putting at least a verbal damper on that are Republicans. The GOP now has a slim Senate majority and these folks, down the road, will be essential to pass any legislation that Trump can't ram through with an executive order.
  14. RINOS The following "RINOs" have expressed at least "reservations" about many of the current cabinet level picks: Cramer ND Ernst IA Collins ME Murkowski AK Cornyn TX Thune SD Tills NC
  15. Maybe. But for all the talk of 'recess appointments' and 'executive orders' these are the people he needs to pass any legislation.
  16. NYTimes headline today: Trump’s Cabinet Picks, Panned in Washington, Thrill Many of His Voters Where Donald Trump’s critics see underqualified nominees with questionable judgment, his voters described them as mavericks recruited to shake up Washington. Seems that DJT's toughest critics on cabinet picks right now are Republican Senators.
  17. Regarding Trump's cabinet level picks so far -- except for maybe Marco Rubio -- I think of the line from Jimi Hendrix: I know what I want, but I just don't know How to go about getting it
  18. Sure but first they have to have a 10 day recess with no interim short pro forma sessions and that ain't duck soup with only a 3 or 4 Repub majority including Vance's break the tie vote.
  19. The only candidate for majority leader that was gung-ho on recess appointment was Florida's Rick Scott, but he didn't make it.
  20. Trump calls on GOP senators vying to be majority leader to agree to recess appointments Updated 7:31 PM EST, Sun November 10, 2024 That was before he made his first announcements including Gaetz.
  21. Two more words courtesy (DEM) Senator Sheldon Whitehouse: Crawl Test i.e. Gaetz and Gabbard nominations will test Republican senators’ willingness to crawl for Trump.

  23. Why Matt Gaetz is not qualified to be U.S. attorney general By Mat Staver – Special to Higher Ground - Thursday, November 14, 2024 President-elect Donald Trump has quickly named many good choices to serve in his Cabinet. But Matt Gaetz is not one of them. The nomination of Mr. Gaetz as attorney general is shocking and disappointing to those who have followed this man and the serious allegations that follow him. Based on his lack of legal experience and other personal concerns, Mr. Gaetz has neither the experience nor the moral character to serve as the chief law enforcement officer in the federal government. Mr. Gaetz’s minimal experience in the practice of law is hardly enough to serve as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer. Mr. Gaetz should do Mr. Trump and all of America a favor and withdraw his name from consideration. This will save him considerable embarrassment. Our country deserves better. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/nov/14/matt-gaetz-qualified-u-attorney-general/
