No-- just more of Mr. Trumps: If it is something I was elected to do, how can it be unconstitutional? To wit: This anti-democratic takeover is orchestrated by forum-shopping organizations that repeatedly bring meritless suits, used for fundraising and political grandstanding, without any repercussions when they fail. Taxpayers are forced not only to cover the costs of their antics when funding and hiring decisions are enjoined, but must needlessly wait for Government policies they voted for. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/ensuring-the-enforcement-of-federal-rule-of-civil-procedure-65c/

Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" Passes The House.

Gee I never saw that one coming. But there is this: (AJ Barrett's) line of questioning drew an important concession from Solicitor General D. John Sauer, who acknowledged the legal arguments defending the merits of Trump’s order were “novel” and “sensitive.” So this one isn’t clear cut on the merits,” Barrett asked. Sauer agreed. https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/supreme-court-birthright-citizenship-cases-05-15-25 -

Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" Passes The House.

From the Newsweek link above: A spokesperson for the House Ways and Means Committee told CNN that the goal is to stop frivolous lawsuits. BTW you read the 1118-page House-approved bill here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1/text Also note here: Ensuring the Enforcement of Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 65(c) The White House -- March 11, 2025 In recent weeks, activist organizations fueled by hundreds of millions of dollars in donations and sometimes even Government grants have obtained sweeping injunctions far beyond the scope of relief contemplated by the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, functionally inserting themselves into the executive policy making process and therefore undermining the democratic process. This anti-democratic takeover is orchestrated by forum-shopping organizations that repeatedly bring meritless suits, used for fundraising and political grandstanding, without any repercussions when they fail. Taxpayers are forced not only to cover the costs of their antics when funding and hiring decisions are enjoined, but must needlessly wait for Government policies they voted for. Moreover, this situation results in the Department of Justice, the Nation’s chief law enforcement agency, dedicating substantial resources to fighting frivolous suits instead of defending public safety. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/ensuring-the-enforcement-of-federal-rule-of-civil-procedure-65c/ -
To wit: May 23, 2025 -- Trump has been resolute about the topic. Last month, when asked by a reporter if Trump wants iPhones to be made domestically, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt replied: “Absolutely. He believes we have the labor, we have the workforce, we have the resources to do it.” Wall Street analysts, however, generally believe domestic iPhone manufacturing isn’t tenable on a financial basis. https://www.barrons.com/articles/apple-stock-iphone-tariffs-69c4fe91

No matter the news, expect some to respond from the Karoline Leavitt / Steve Cheung (her boss) school of commentary.

Maybe all you need to know: KRISTEN WELKER: When does it become the Trump economy? PRES. DONALD TRUMP: It partially is right now. And I really mean this. I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy because he’s done a terrible job. He did a terrible job on everything ... https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-administration/read-full-transcript-president-donald-trump-interviewed-meet-press-mod-rcna203514

Headline this AM NY Times: Now That House Republicans Took the Plunge, It’s the Senate’s Turn Senate Republicans say changes are coming for the sprawling domestic policy bill carrying President Trump’s agenda. Their colleagues who took political risks to push it through the House might not like them. -
Even MAGA Is Up in Arms Over Trump’s ‘Flying Grift’ From Qatar
jerrymahoney replied to BLMFem's topic in Political Soapbox
When I was flying for commercial reasons starting late 1980's I would get the upper deck on United 747 because it was the only smoke-free part of the airplane as the air pressure would keep the smoke fumes down on the main level. -

My last 4 trips RT to USA on Korean were on 747 Seoul to Atlanta. The last 3 upper deck business all recently outfitted. I spoke with one of the attendants who said she hated the 747 compared to Airbus 380: while the cabin is nice the galley was still 1970's But that was all pre-Covid up to 2019 and now Korean is retiring their last 4 747's. -

They likely did -- Qatar has been trying to sell it since 2020 and probably were the other 7. Trump has said AF One is a prestige item and he is embarrassed with the old crate. But he may be wanting to start off with a lemon needing huge overhaul. -
Even MAGA Is Up in Arms Over Trump’s ‘Flying Grift’ From Qatar
jerrymahoney replied to BLMFem's topic in Political Soapbox
What I read is that while Biden was still President, the AIrForce did a search on all non-commercial privately available 747-800 airplanes and they found 8 of which the Qatar was one. -
While this exchange took place during the recent oral hearing on birthright citizenship, it would apply to the merits of the admin's invoking 'invasion' in the proclamation per the 1789 Act *: 10:40 p.m. GMT+7, May 15, 2025 Barrett emerges as key vote in birthright case Justice Amy Coney Barrett, a member of the court’s conservative wing, repeatedly pressed President Donald Trump’s attorney about why the government is avoiding the merits of the birthright citizenship case. Her line of questioning drew an important concession from Solicitor General D. John Sauer, who acknowledged the legal arguments defending the merits of Trump’s order were “novel” and “sensitive.” “So this one isn’t clear cut on the merits,” Barrett asked. Even MAGA Is Up in Arms Over Trump’s ‘Flying Grift’ From Qatar

Former Air Force officials have said that they doubt the plane could be modified with all the necessary security features before the end of Mr. Trump's presidency. But one also said the Air Force One is what the President says it is. So maybe they can dispense with all those security features and Mr. Trump figures who needs all that stuff if he can't get the plane ready soon enough? -
NY Times headline today: Official Pushed to Rewrite Intelligence So It Could Not Be ‘Used Against’ Trump An assessment contradicted a presidential proclamation. A political appointee demanded a redo, then pushed for changes to the new analysis, too. __________ Simple explanation: Some of Mr. Trump's immigration orders require the declaration of an invasion on behest of the Venezuelan government. Analysts said that there was no such invasion. Analysts are fired.

Elon Musk’s companies see reputations crumble

I don't follow but Unsworth's case rested on the damage to his reputation and team Musk showed there wasn't at least with UK royalty. -
Elon Musk’s companies see reputations crumble
jerrymahoney replied to bannork's topic in Political Soapbox
Musk only used the word 'pedo' to describe the person who said that he should 'stick his submarine where it hurts' on CNN before he knew it was Unsworth. I took Musk's side on here while a lot of the posts were about how Unsworth should 'take Musk to the cleaners'. But that was before I knew of Musk's affinity for chainsaws. -

The Vernon Unsworth libel case against Musk collapsed when the Musk attorney asked Unsworth on the stand at trial whether Unsworth thought (then) Prince Charles would have given him the MBE at Buckingham Palace if the prince thought he was a pedo? And Unsworth answered: No. -

Do you shower before going in to swimmingpool?

At pools where people are lying in the sun and using tanning stuff and then getting in the pool, you can sometimes see a layer of tar/crud on the pool wall just above the water line. -
