  1. I have been using a marriage extension for years without any probem. My wife is unemployed and is registered on a Tabian Baan in Sukhothai and we live in Bangkok. However, we are required to submit a copy of the tabian Baan of the house we rent, along with a copy of the owner's ID.
  2. This is the opportunity that PT has been waiting for. After shedding a few crocodile tears they will form a new coalition. I bet it will be PT + BJT + PPP and maybe Prayuth's party, though just those first 3 will give them a slim majority in Parliament.
  3. I may be wrong, so maybe someone can correct this, but I believe that shares in a company that has been delisted (no longer traded on the stock market) cannot be traded or sold. He can give someone the shares, but until the transaction is officially recorded, he is still considered to be the legal owner.
  4. You can get a license, but there are conditions. Here is a quote from the Kurusapa (Teachers Council of Thailand): 1. Not younger than 20 years of age 2. Have academic qualifications in one of the following: (a) Have a degree in education or its equivalent (b) Have a degree in another field and a teaching license from another country (c) Have a degree in another field and a graduate diploma in teaching profession with 1 year of course study (d) Have a degree in another field and have passed other professional certification in accordance with the professional standards of the Teachers’ Council of Thailand 3. Have continuing experience in teaching of not less than 1 year 4. Have a Thai work permit 5. Have evidence showing that an applicant has been permitted to stay in Thailand 6. Not possess any of the prohibited characteristics pursuant to section 44 of the Teachers and Educational Personnel Council Act B.E. 2003 • Having improper behavior or immorality • Being an incompetent or quasi-incompetent person • Having been sentenced to imprisonment in any case, in the opinion of the Teachers Council of Thailand, which may bring dishonor upon the profession. http://site.ksp.or.th/home.php?site=englishsite If I am interpreting this correctly, you need to work legally in a Thai school for one calendar year before you can apply for a permanent license. You will also need a recommendation from your Department Head and maybe your school director. With an MEd you shouldn't have any trouble getting a waiver for that first year.
  5. If the traffic police have an override button it will never work. They will be trying to do the exact opposite of the AI's logical recommendations.
  6. One of those 158 special needs school is next door to my school. The students there are severely developmentally disabled, some cannot even speak. Obviously parents of children with mild autism or adhd won't send them to a school like this. Unfortunately, regular school are not equipped to handle the special needs students who are otherwise able to attend regular classes. Instead of having counselors or special needs teachers at regular schools, they simply drug the kids until they are too sleepy to function or else let them run amok in class!
  7. ^ Yes, Thailand does not need subs, it needs to turn 1/2 of its Navy into a Coast Guard that would actually be useful.
  8. The CHD620 is a Deutz design made in China. As long as the factory can meet the original specifications it should be the same as the German engine. Of course, the real problem is not where the engine was made, it's why Thailand needs a sub at all.
  9. Tim posted this before I could. Remember 'Good Guys in, Bad Guys out'? Well maybe he was innocent, but he was arrested for human trafficking of a minor 5 years ago and was still living cheerfully in Thailand as of a couple of days ago. I guess the Thai police translation of 'Good Guys in, Bad Guys out' is 'Rich Guys in, Poor Guys out'.
  10. Teachers should not post pictures showing the faces of students in any social media, unless they have permission from the parents and the school.
  11. So, how long before that National ID database is hacked and everyone's information is sold?
  12. Is the house or land in her name? If so, she may have taken out a mortgage to cover her loses. You might want to check with the local land office.
  13. If you are talking about the US, then it's not that younger people lack ambition, it's that they know that they cannot achieve the same level of success that their parents and grandparents achieved at the same age. Costs of housing, education and other important things have risen dramatically in the last 20 years and many younger people know that they cannot ever afford the lifestyle that was normal 20 or 40 years ago. They cannot buy a 3 bedroom suburban house with a 2 car garage like their grandparents could, so why not just invest in the latest phone and take selfies instead. I view their attitudes as a sign of despair, not a sign of laziness.
  14. I don't recall the details, but many years ago I heard that foreigners can own up to 1 Rai of land if they invest 40 million baht in an approved state enterprise or government bonds.
  15. I suspect that the key words here are "Vocational College". The boys who are students there often do their best to live up to their reputation, whether they are having shootouts with students from a 'rival' school or torturing each other with hazing rituals.
  16. If the problem is people not paying their fines, I don't see how add AI will help.
  17. I don´t think that the BIB are really cracking down - aside from the one fellow with the stick there is no pointing going on. If they were really serious there would be a picture of the criminals sheepishly pointing at a pile of passports while a round dozen police officers lined up sternly behind them.
  18. Yes, I have had a work permit with a Non-O Marriage visa since 2008. However, I live in Bangkok, other provinces might differ.
  19. Several years ago my soi was a mini Farang Ghetto, with a Swiss, a Dane, a Frenchman and a couple of Americans. The other American noticed that his next-door neighbors had had a loud fight and had both left their townhouse, leaving the doors and gate locked up. They had two dogs that were left in the carport and 3 or 4 cats, which were left inside. The dogs started crying when their owners didn't come back the next day, so we all got together and managed to get some food and water to them over the fence. My wife knew who their landlady was and managed to get a message to her that her tenants had abandoned their pets. The next day with wife returned and fed the neglected dogs and cats. After a few months they moved away, taking their dogs, but leaving their cats behind. Most of the cats didn't survive the transition from house cat to street cat, but one tough old one-eyed Siamese still visits my wife occasionally to get a free meal. It really is shocking how some people will neglect their pets.
  20. This is a total farce. All of the high ranking police got their current positions through corruption. Are we expected to believe that they will diligently work to expose and eliminate that corruption??
  21. In the link, they mention that the suspect is married to the 15 year old sister of the baby's mother!
  22. Lots of wealthy Thais use property like a savings account in a bank. They buy lots or buildings and then either rent them out for income or leave them empty while they appreciate in value. Eventually they will build a new building or renovate the existing building and sell at a considerable profit. Not looking at a property that may be in a distant town is not that unusual. Edit: I just noticed the owners name: Chinnawat. I believe an alternate spelling is Shinawatra. He probably has so much money that the value of a couple of old shophouses is not significant at all.
  23. Actually, while I do think that Thaksin was overall good for Thailand as PM, his government was definitely "Thai Rak Thai", not "Thai Rak Farang". He doubled the money in the bank required for Visas, made the granting of PR status much more difficult and generally made life for foreigners in Thailand much more difficult. Looking at this from just a foreign expat perspective, Thaksin and his party may be good news for Thais, but I wouldn't be surprised if Visa requirements double again! Though the most xenophobic member of his old cabinet (Purachai), who pushed most of these changes, is now firmly on the yellowshirt side.
  24. I expect that a deal has been made: PT will join Palang Pacherat, BJ, and the Dems to form a coalition in exchange for a pardon for Thaksi
