  1. there is no evidence that road deaths and injuries increase over songkran, they remain relatively consistent with the rest of the year. the 'increase' in deaths is media hype put about by lazy 'journalists' who refuse to research before they write. next!
  2. you'd be surprised how many couples take and exchange explicit photos and videos. i've been in relationships back home and here where this was the norm. as long as there is consent and trust it's fine.
  3. Dis adv might be with recieving OTP from banks maybe you nailed it, if you use your phone for bank/email/ etc. authentication then changing your number ever year will be a pain. depends on what you use your phone for. you know your requirements, so as they say here, up to you.
  4. true, it's good to see them getting stuck in for a change. though to be fair, the noise and commotion was probably disturbing their facebook browsing.
  5. i've been using Nord for a few years, needed support initially to get it up and running and their support was excellent. since then no issues, easy to use and effective for all uk tv channels. i managed to get a great deal with them, 3 years for 90GBP
  6. it's the wind wot did it, nothing to do with me mate. hope the lady in question gets the appropriate medical and other assistance and recovers quickly.
  7. That exact post was on facebook, here was the reply... This new invention the ICE has poor torque at low revs, so we will fit gears to compensate, it is noisy and vibrates tiring its occupants, so we will fit mufflers and sound proofing, We will no longer get up in the morning to a vehicle fully fueled and ready to go so we will have to visit smelly petrol stations every week, queue up and fill with highly explosive hydrocarbons that the ICE will explode in something with 100 times more moving parts than our EV's producing poisonous gases in the process. Our new ICE will be unreliable because of all the moving parts and more than 10 times likely to catch fire. Yes, how excited people will be. ICE still sounds like the prefered option to me.
  8. use your phone as a hotspot, make sure you have a data heavy package. next.
  9. i know, the QR code payment system used here is so clunky, involving faffing around scanning, typing in amounts, showing phone the the vendor... it's so impractical and slow, and another example of badly designed technology making a process slower and more inefficient. good old cash, sometimes you can't beat it.
  10. why not just ask you daughter in law? instead of a bunch of middle aged to old foreign guys... 🤣
  11. i very much doubt that, anyone who can't afford such an increase couldn't afford to holiday here.
  12. In addition to Thai men being emotionally reactive, they also lack self control. because such an incident would never happen in your own perfect country, where, may i ask, is this wonderful place?
  13. before you bought the car either you knew there would be a charging issue and didn't resolve it, or you simply didn't plan ahead. you're playing catch up because of your lack of forethought, so don't expect others to jump to solve a problem of your own making. having said that, this should be a wake up call to your condo management that charging facilities will be a service they will be expected to provide in the future, and a marketing/sales benefit in attracting new owners.
  14. The mystery of exactly how many expats live in Thailand sine when has this been a mystery? and why would it be a mystery?
  15. er, no, could you travel the world without a passport? well neither can she. she is effectively stateless.
  16. generally don't tip, but i give to charity, to those in genuine need. i don't expect a tip for 'doing my job', so why should others? if you don't like the salary of your job i get another one, i would.
  17. it is actually quite common for thai students to change schools, certainly amongst my thai friend's in bangkok and i've not heard any issues from the children or parents. children can be more resilient than you think. incidentally, i went to three primary schools and three secondary schools, and it didn't harm me. 😁
  18. but the backup power source was temporarily closed for testing by the airport’s engineers. what if the power to the air traffic controllers went down? why switch off the back up system when the airport has flights arriving? do it during fight down time.
  19. sounds like you're lacking in social etiquette. be polite, make an effort, you never know the other people might actually be interesting, and you might even enjoy yourself.
  20. well, yes and no, most people weren't going anywhere on holiday during covid - not even in their own countries, thailand was not alone in that. though thailand was slow in coming out of covid and tourist arrivals were behind the worldwide tourism recovery curve. tourist numbers are improving but as tourism is only around 18% of GDP it's a mistake to focus too much on that sector. as i see it the main issues with the thai economy are low productivity, the rapidly ageing population and rampant endemic corruption none of which are quickly fixed. but thialand is not alone most countries are currently suffering economic woes.
  21. I would greatly appreciate any advice or insight that anyone can give me. not sure why you need to ask... get your passport renewed asap.
  22. have been using both ebay and paypal for years, never had a problem, both easy convenient to use. miss the good old days when the GBP/TBH rate was favorable, i made quite a bit of money selling thai goods to the uk/europe.
