  1. assume thais who have recently traveled abroad will also be required to comply, and that the authorities have a system in place to identify those citizens who should be complying.
  2. In other countries they have staff to resupply when the shop is closed. not true, in the uk supermarket shelves are re-stocked during shop open hours try not to see criticism through the lens that if something is not right it must be because it's thai/thailand.
  3. If Thai was the international business language, I would speak it fluently. if only everyone was as perfect as you.
  4. very sad. but not a thailand problem, many countries have issues with the extreme behaviour of adolescents
  5. couldn't care less, never needed to pay someone to spend time with me, neither have any of my mates. and i've had an awful lot of fun. a fool and his money are soon parted always has been, and i guess always will be, true.
  6. depends where you are, in bangkok three days, but quiet start and finish usually. never been to pattaya but hear it's longer there. but i don't care because i'll be in another country 😁
  7. sorry, but you are wrong to suggest this is a thai trait, back home the council in a small town near me decided to cut down around 30 mature deciduous trees for apparently no reason, they did it overnight which was particularly sly. and once they're gone that's it...
  8. i'd say speeding is a problem because you have less time to react there are bad drivers everywhere, and thailand seems to have more that its fair share, but nothing like the insanity i've seen in lebanon and india. so be thankful for that, and be careful out there.
  9. in all the years i've been flying into and out of thailand i've never been delayed arriving or leaving - always been through immigration before my bags arrived. an air stewardess took a shine to me one one flight and gave me a fast-track pass that i could use in case of long queues. i've never had to use it, probably obsolete now 😄
  10. they are thai, this is thailand, they will have much more idea of the possible outcomes than us foreigners. leave them to it.
  11. anyone who knows about writing knows trink was an awful journalist, i was always surprised the stickman site always held him in such high esteem.
  12. the only way i can, and will, use the site is with an ad blocker. the amount of intrusive ads is ridiculous. i understand that ads are an important segment of the business model, but to have ads that actively prevent ease of user access to the site is counter intuitive. most web designers understand this, but clearly not all...
  13. depends on the situation, if a girl is interested and lets you know then it's fine. pre-smart phones i met loads of girls in malls, on buses, walking through markets, in parks, non were working girls, and many wonderful times were had. smart phones and internet daring put an end to this, for me anyway. it was a lot of fun while it lasted.
  14. sure, my friend's daughter studied music at mahidol, she now works as a professional jazz singer often performing at top notch venues. jazz is not my favourite, but she has an amazing voice.
  15. i remember a BP writer, roger beaumont, i think, he was pretty good. andrew biggs was fairly humorous
  16. low level scam, and to be honest if you're not streetwise enough, or have done so little research on your destination, to spot these scams then you deserve what you get. this sort of stuff happens in pretty much every popular tourist country so don;t go saying it's a thai problem.
  17. i'm surprised they don't have reasonably robust measures in place already, and the question is; would these new stricter measures have prevented entry to any of the recent high profile miscreants? what they need is more focus on compliance once people are here, e.g. identifying and removing overstayers - it can't be that difficult, and stamping down on corruption between locals and foreigners - bit of a no-brainer you'd think...
  18. i guess the sad thing is that she really thinks she's had a brainwave... 🙄
  19. the pages will get used up eventually, traveled round the world for three years, passport was very erratically stamped, never a problem.
  20. i used to see him and his lady companion quite often at scala cinema, siam square, never spoke to him. used to look at his column in the bangkok post, not sure how he got away with it, he simply regurgitated material from other sources, and seemed disproportionately interested in nigerian scammers, his film reviews were pretty un-insightful. given the written output i saw i'm surprised he was regarded as a journalist/writer. stickman used to rave about him in his column, never understood that either.
