Pattaya City Officials Subdue Agitated Foreigner
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Does anyone remember that heavily bearded guy in green fatigues that used to hang around various spots on Sukhumvit in Pattaya? He never bothered anyone. I haven't seen him for years. -

Thailand Imposes Alcohol Ban for Visakha Bucha Day on May 22
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I remember the first time I heard such noise pollution. 8:00 in the guddammed morning, severely hung over in my gf's village 25 clicks south of Sa Keao, and that #&%^ starts up. LAST time I put myself in that situation! -
I don't believe the Global Obesity Observatory
HappyExpat57 replied to Furioso's topic in Health and Medicine
I've been teaching in Thailand since 2008. I've personally witnessed DRASTIC changes in the snacks the students eat during breaks/lunch. At first they (mostly) brought healthy snacks, but today I am very dissappointed to see the huge amounts of sugar they are gobbling down. And it's not just LOS, this is a global issue. The schools love it as they get their cut of the sugar sales. Big Pharma loves it cuz they make a fortune from diabetes meds and the latest evil "one shot a week" (or several variations thereof) for type II diabetes and your weight goes down. Focus needs to be placed on diet and exercise. I've been keeping my own type II diabetes in check this way for years. -

Man bites dog, and you can take that any way you want. -
The alligators aren't swimming in those waters EVERY day. The rent is at least 4 times the current inflated Pattaya rates. The whole time I was there I only saw one attractive chica, virtually no night life - it's a retirement mecca for Canadian retirees. BORING!!!!!!!!!!

Time to dust off my old tale of leaving LOS. After living here 7 years, I had gotten fed up with all the bureaucratic nonsense, so I pulled up stakes and moved to Zihuatanejo, Mexico. It was NOTHING like in "The Shawshank Redemption." You think traffic is bad in Thailand? It was NOTHING compared to that sh!thole! Imagine having a tank with a 50 mm gun controlling traffic. Health care? The mayor's wife died cuz they couldn't get her to a hospital for over 8 hours when she got thrown off her horse. And the list goes on and on. My only mistake was not getting a re-entry stamp. I was back in Thailand 6 weeks later with a renewed appreciation. Sure, I was reminded on day one why I left in the first place, but somehow it had just become much more tolerable.

Here's an idea (we can monetize ANYTHING!): Sell licenses, rent air pistols with the metal BB's, then pay a fair price for each dead rat. YEE HAW!!! -

Anyone here ever read "Catch-22?" There was a chapter where character Milo Minderbinder was stuck in a sales-loop and was losing money drastically. He tried to solve it by covering cotton balls in chocolate and selling them as candy. Trying to sell an inedible product. Not exactly sure WHY that came to mind. -

I just checked mine - Chrome, Windows 10. Youtube, Instagram and news feeds all working fine. For what it's worth, I have blocked all updates. -
They're rather uncomfortable short time "rooms." A large room, sectioned off by curtains, typically with drab beds, harsh lighting, and peeling paint on the walls. You are separated by the curtains a meter or so from the guy(s) next to you while everyone is being serviced. NO sense of sexy ambience. More like a trip to the vet to get milked while trying to drown out the gutteral groans right next to you.

Let me start with this - I am NOT slamming Thai cuisine. If you are considering the subtleties of fine wine then trying to compare them with Thai food, you're trying to mix apples and oranges. Thai food is simple fare, especially when smothered in dried chile and sugar. Pretty much anything that will put out the fire in your mouth will be a fine pairing.
