  1. A pox on whoever taught Thais the word "hub."
  2. Their case was a little different. They were working without a work permit. https://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/advanced/2733010/russian-rock-band-faces-deportation-from-thailand
  3. There was a similar article over the last few weeks on this subject. One of the largest considerations was how poorly artists here are treated. Case in point - about ten years ago, Lady Gaga was publicly ridiculed for her stage presence. Stodgy old farts found her outfits unsavory, but I've seen many Thai models in much skimpier outfits. Farts were also upset that she had a Thai flag on the back of a motorcycle but in no way did she ever use the prop in a disrespectful manner. And the fake Rolex thing? Well, we all know the truth about fakes sold here. https://www.richardbarrow.com/2012/06/thailands-culture-ministry-upset-with-lady-gaga/ Taylor Swift is a class act, donating tens of millions of dollars to worthy causes every year. It is NO loss to her to skip performing in Thailand, plenty of other countries welcome her with open arms. Anyone here who doesn't care for her? She couldn't care less. IF she were to perform in LOS, there wouldn't be an empty seat in the house. Also consider the millions of baht that will never be generated by the peripheral sales/concessions at every concert. Sum num naa.
  4. I am absolutely ignorant of money markets, stock market investing, etc. Simple man, simple real estate investments and a simple pension. From my unknowing point of view, is this a case of Thailand becoming a middleman for selling US bonds? If so, wouldn't you want to bypass Thai banks altogether and just buy US bonds from US brokers? What value is Thailand adding in this equation?
  5. He WON'T get re-elected so this is a moot point.
  6. Who exactly assigns the grand titles of "Hub of this" and "Hub of that?"
  7. The only way the orange-tinted fraud ever gets the shield of presidency is if he gets re-elected. Once the primaries are behind us, the coffee table debaters will settle down and reality will sink in. The majority of voters just plain don't like Joe. This is a statistical fact. However, even more folks REALLY don't like his opponent and the threat he represents if he ever worms his way back in. Once again, we'll have to hold our noses as we pull the lever and another sad election will be behind us, with Joe stumbling and bumbling along again.
  8. Not much to report so lets refurb this old chestnut.
  9. The wheels of justice grind VERY slowly, but also very fine.
  10. Not sure if you've heard anything about the IVF laws Alabama just put out there - basically they now define a frozen embryo as a person. The reasons for imposing such an atrocity was littered with Christian references. This has now stopped just about ALL doctors performing fertility procedures for fear of being arrested. The book "1984" and "The Handmaid's Tale" video series were supposed to be fiction. Christian Nationalists have taken them to heart and are making them law. These Christian Nationalists prefer to be called "Nationalist Christians" - or Nat C's for short.
  11. Wouldn't it be better than to make an idiotic reply to realize Google is no longer a reliable source?
  12. Yeah, this worked SO well for cigarettes.
  13. A few years back a British friend showed me videos, sections of London that are now under sharia law. Posters were glued to light posts saying as such. Is this true? Is it still that way or any better/worse?
  14. Suddenly major investors are pulling out/steering clear of New York. The orange-tinted fraud is going to cost New York a LOT of money. Tired of winning yet? Make sure he doesn't worm his way back into the White House and that he has to put on an orange jumpsuit and things can go back to a semblance of order.
  15. I have to disagree. Rent prices have almost doubled in Pattaya/Jomtien area over the last two years. I moved to Chanthaburi two years ago and keep tabs on rent costs as I had planned on eventually moving back, but if the advertised prices are reflecting actual costs, then Pattaya/Jomtien might become a nice place to visit but not to live.
  16. This was anything but. The fact that he only won roughly 60% of an election that should have been his shows how weak his campaign is. Victory? Meh. Resounding? HELL no.
  17. #1 Topic: Proper distribution of brown envelopes?
  18. I've always used the last date I entered Thailand, not the original (for me) 2006 date.
  19. My friends and I gather regularly at a bar that serves food Saturday noon. Does that count?
  20. As I wrote when this misinformant was exposed, Faux is STILL insisting there is (and I quote) "a treasure trove of evidence," yet when asked to share even ONE little bit, they hem, and haw, and shuffle their feet. And still people follow this crap blindly. I wouldn't care if it didn't have any impact on me or mine, BUT IT DOES! It impacts ALL of us, regardless of nationality. Shake My Effing Head.
  21. They're smelling blood in the water.
  22. 1. The IO took care of any paperwork needed for this time and warned me that all future trips must be reported to them. 2. There was no fine. I am always polite and dress nicely, keeping my bare feet squarely on the floor, looking docilely forward while waiting for service - you know the drill. FWIW, after all was done and dusted, I returned with a nice bin of "Shadow" chocolates for the office to show my gratitude. I understand they could have made my life a little miserable over this and I think they recognized an honest mistake.
  23. Why aren't you supposed to do that? Is it for property owners only?
