  1. If I, the wife gets 20 yrs out of our EV, she'll be more than happy. They make perfect sense to us, and IF you had one, you'd probably understand why. Experience usually is a better judge of things, over barstool gossip.
  2. Old, un-Vax'd & un-Masked ... still alive ???? ... oh yea, and most important ... healthy immune system....IMHO Had symptoms, once, for a day, and probably been exposed to. more than once, I would think, with millions infected. Been in crowded market, MRT/BTS, hospital. Daughter had it a couple times, 1 verified, and vax'd. ???? I'll go with personal experience ... instead of 'that science'. I find it best to ignore the Govt & Snake Oil salespersons ... again Just my own personal opinion ... UP2U & YMMV
  3. Don't take it ... but if you do, try to stick out the contract, or you'll be doing a disservice to the students. Teaching is the job. Think about what you do now during the work week, would it really be any different there. If a heavy drinking, and would probably be going to 'town' an hour away, then don't take the job. 1 year or 9 month contract will go by quick, and weekends to explore a new area, and or hit 'town' now & then. Nice hills & lake to explore on NW & W side of province.
  4. One of our best investments also, and really don't need the grid at all. ROI should be 5-8 yrs, depending if home using, or O&A ???? ROI for installed system = higher cost than DIY. System has produced up to 45kWh a day, and we only need 25-30kWh to run the house, when hot & humid. Excess goes to the EVs, for additional money savings toward ROI. ESSs for overnight use.

  6. "According to Solar Energy UK, solar panel performance falls by 0.34 percentage points for every degree that the temperature rises above 25C." ????
  7. How much solar do you need ... ? For us, when home, at least 30kWh a day, if hot & humid. If not home, seems between 5-6kWh a day. ???? That's just to keep 2 medium size frigs, and 2 lights on 24/7. Days before going O&A, averaged 30kWh Days while O&A, 5-6kWh 2 non efficient frigs, and 2 standard tube lights When home 2 Mitsubishi, very efficient, heavy duty inverter ACs. Bedroom on 18ish hrs a day Main room, 9ish hrs a day Previous few months, averaged 30-33 kWh a day. The over 30kWh a day, can be attributed to the EVs. If not having those, would expect usage to be 25-30kWh average a day for the month, during hot & humid. Two full top ups for the EV (car) would be 93kWh a month, so about 3kWh a day, on average. Scooter & ebike really aren't worth a mention.
  8. Mine will operate efficiently up to 40-44°C, so no worries here. "Nominal Module Operating Temperature (NMOT) 42 ± 2°C" Rarely does the temp hit 40, and unless near 45, still no worries. My ESSs are topped up well before noon on sunny days, so even it temps got silly high, it wouldn't be a problem. (production / blue till ESSs topped up)
  9. Considering TH is very 3rd world country ... IMHO They are way down the list with Physicians per capita, so do a fine job with what they have. If living outside a metro area, you may struggle to find good emergency/trauma care. I had to be transported 100kms, for what I would consider a basic, low tech/low risk, life saving/prolonging procedure. If you know you have health issues, live in a metro area. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_and_dependencies_by_number_of_physicians
  10. They're certainly not going to vote to give up their gravy train & power. Congress getting older than ever, and some well into their 80s. "Chuck Grassley will be 95 years old. The speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is 82. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is 80" "In fact, nearly 25% of Congress is over 70 years old." https://www.npr.org/2022/11/10/1135856127/congress-is-older-than-ever-it-hasnt-always-been-this-way#:~:text=In fact%2C nearly 25% of,is over 70 years old. A bunch of millionaires, out to touch with the reality of living in USA. "Majority of lawmakers in 116th Congress are millionaires" https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2020/04/majority-of-lawmakers-millionaires/
  11. PETA ... what a joke: "In 2014, PETA euthanized over 80% of the shelter's animals and justified its euthanasia policies as "mercy killings". In 2008, industry lobby group Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) petitioned the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, requesting they reclassify PETA as a "slaughterhouse." CCF said in a news release that "[a]n official report filed by PETA itself shows that the animal rights group put to death nearly every dog, cat, and other pet it took in for adoption in 2006," with a kill rate of 97.4 percent. In 2012, VDACS said that it had in the past considered changing PETA's status from "shelter" to "euthanasia clinic," citing PETA's willingness to take in "anything that comes through the door, and other shelters won't do that." PETA acknowledged that it euthanized 95% of the animals at its shelter in 2011. PETA's euthanasia practices have drawn intense scrutiny from lawmakers and criticism from animal rights activists for years. Fueled by public outrage from a 2014 incident where PETA workers took a pet Chihuahua from its porch and euthanized it the same day," ???? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_for_the_Ethical_Treatment_of_Animals
  12. Pretty sad lot. Few I wouldn't endorse, others unfamiliar with, though don't seem qualified or up to the task. There's a reason I don't vote. Sadly, I hope Biden remains, and lives to complete another 4 yr stretch. Selfish, as only benefits me living as an expat, not good for the USA.
  13. That's one of the reasons I have a BEV ????
  14. No complaints here either. They probably saved my life last October, and or prolonged it in a much better state, than without their 'intervention'. Yearly health checks inexpensive & accessible, unlike in the west. For locals, their universal healthcare works quite well, BUT, you do need to use it. Check ups will catch & prevent little things becoming big things. Know your body and take care of it. Don't wait till it malfunctions. People seem to take better of their vehicles, with regular check ups & maintenance. Mind boggling.
  15. Yep ... ICE cars are expensive to buy, operate, and inefficient dinosaurs. Along with the dirty, unrenewable fuel that keeps them running. Big oil/fossil fuel conglomerates are finally losing their grip on the world's energy. People finally waking up ... and had enough of the BS. Just a matter of time ... sooner the better, for everyone.
  16. 2 thread replies that may interest: https://aseannow.com/topic/1257405-electric-vehicles-in-thailand/page/74/#comment-18128697 https://aseannow.com/topic/1279914-ev-charging-stations-cs/#comment-18144333
  17. Back from short O&A, only 1419 kms, and starting to drive 'less' conservative. Taking it down closer to 20%, but then only back up to 80%. Instead of down to 30s and topped @ 100%. Does make for shorter stops, though don't think it ever took longer than us, at the stop anyway. A leisurely toilet stop, walk dog, lite munch. Usually fine tune my hotel & dining research at CSs. So a bit time consuming, at times. As stated a few times, a welcome stop after 250 ish kms/3 ish hrs on the road. Something we found out, EVStation chargers, do a system reset at 55 mins after the hour. So if using, best to get there on the hour, if wanting, needed 45+ ish mins of charging. Aside from that, no surprises while O&A, all CS conveniently located along our route, even on smaller roads. No stretches without a station, at about every 100 kms or so. PKK - Chumphone - Surat Thani - Phang-Nga - Phuket & return.
  18. Same as us, and we stopped 'only' when we wanted. But while there, simply plugged in. AND ... got paid ฿2000 to do so ???? Along with no need for that tune up, plugs & Oil changes every so often. More savings and trips to the dealer we prefer not to do. Thank you for contribution to the local air pollution problem.
  19. Just back from a short O&A, only 1419 kms. If having to pay all at CS, then extreme negative price would be; EV ~฿1460 ICE ~฿3550 Obviously the first 280 kms were from solar, but came back with 170 kms, so paid for way more than needed. Savings actually more than 2k+ showing. No charging stop was time consuming/more than we were going to be there anyway. We we were done, whatever, we stopped charging, unplugged & left. All were along our route, and all conveniently located @ PTT or BangChak station w/7-11 and or coffee shop. One MG CS on Sunday, so could use break room, but that was an unscheduled/unnecessary stop, as had to use internet to figure out where next, since change of mind in route ... ???? Actually topped up before done researching, and didn't need to top up anyway, as decided to only venture another 150 kms.
  20. answered, not my fault you don't understand it. I'm not responsible for any of it ... ... I left long ago. I'm just a blight on USA taxpayer as I get, have gotten, all my taxes back that I paid, and then some. Work smarter, not harder
  21. Slime ball that he was, at least he set himself up to get pardoned. Stupid he wasn't.
  22. Who's his biggest threat in next election, and who just go indicted ? Selective ... yea. Clinton, home server, deleted emails ... ... really have ask ? Bush/Cheney ... war crimes, invaded sovereign countries ... ... really, you have to ask ?
  23. Many, (not me, sort of) are on a fixed income, some not even getting COLA, and definitely doesn't keep up with inflation, even if they did receive. So inflation does have an effect on their smile. Add to that, possibly unplanned krap exchange rate & med costs, they again, didn't plan on, since aging and are no longer invincible. Trying to balance that with beer, cigs, Viagra & P4P can be a challenge. Which not to buy this month or next. Some no longer have a choice between a 'full English brekkie' or 'eggs in pan'.... or AC vs sitting in front of a fan. No longer "Living the Dream" ????
  24. Civil war, never going to happen. Lid was on the jar too long, and the fleas can't think for themselves any more. Lid is off now, and they still won't jump out. Experiment is over
  25. Can't argue his thoughts, as the corruption is pretty bad, and there to see. Not that it hasn't always been there. Only difference this time, he is the target of the selective prosecution, as Snowden pointed out the other day. Exposing the wrong group of corrupt folks, seem to be a crime, when you threaten their power. Only difference I'm seeing, is everyone is scared of him. I guess it beats him having an 'accident'
