Shredding Data Storage Devices before final disposal
RayWright replied to moogradod's topic in IT and Computers
Use to do MoD HardDisc destruction in the early 80's, back when discs were larger than the size of curling stones. 3 key requirements, a sledge hammer and a camera to record the activity, plus a heavy duty magnet to pass over the shattered platters to ensure maximum de-gaussing. On the other hand, if you can extract the HDA, then recommend Active@Kill Disc. -

I suppose it depends on the Landlord / Owner. Always used an Agent, so still use an Agent. My 1 year 2021 rental contract was coming up for renewal end of 2022, explained to the Owner needed to return to UK to "'Ave a word" with my Estate Agent to hurry-along / complete sale of a property. Said all being well, I'll be back in 3 months and would like to rent from him again. After 2 months of chasing him for my deposit, (matter of principle), eventually he transferred the monies. Within minutes, then e-mailed & TxT'd for details of what he's got available. (I know he has 22 apartments within the block that never sold, hence he rents). So far nothing, despite sending numerous e-mails and messages, even asked the Jurastic Officer to nudge him. I've seen my old Condo being advertised, so currently looking to book through an agent. His lost, as he'll end up paying a second commission. Whereas I would have been happy to engage direct to save him time and money. What gets me is he employs a Sales Rep / Manager who does most of the engagement work, yet they also don't return e-mails and Messages. Obviously not on a commission wage.

House meeting collapses yet again on Thursday due to lack of a quorum
RayWright replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Does Thai parliament have the concept of a Speaker? If so, he/she/they etc should fine each party for failing in their duty. Cost at % of seats held. Or even more radical, each Politician not in attendance, use the concept of Whips to maintain Quorum. Am I thinking the bleeding obvious, or is the Thai "Gas Works" just a kindergarten in all but name? -
Central Festival. Do mattress protectors as well. Can't remember prices as couple of years ago.

Alice Springs: Alcohol limited in Australian town due to violence
RayWright replied to Scott's topic in World News
Remember a story an old family friend told me back in the early 80's. He was the Teachers Whisky Rep for South Australia, so used to travel extensively across the State. Can't remember which town / Settlement it was, but the Village Elders took a vote, and it was unanimous that the annual Government Cheque should be spent on grog, as opposed to budgeting across the year to support the community. Consequently once paid, he organised a flat-bed full of Beer, Bundy Rum, Port and Whisky. When delivered the whole community was paralytic for 2 weeks. This wasn't a one off. True fact, the indigenous people of Australia can't handle booze as they never drunk it till the Europeans arrived, consequently they never elvolved and developed the tolerance / enzymes us Europeans did. -
Couldn't agree more, The Laird of Skye is a fantastic jestering flute player. Although Peter Gabriel in his Genesis days always managed to capture / change the mood of a song with his haunting flute solos and bridges. Whereas Sir James Galway, is the master of melancholy and control, as his traditional rendition of Lononderry Air ( Danny Boy) that he always plays at his concerts.

If we're now talking nostalgic British Ads, then none finer than Ridley Scott's Hovis Ad from 1973, with Collery Brass Band playing Dvorak's New World Symphony. Ey up, chip butty wi' scraps, it's bloody maftin' it is. -

How to unlock a device when the owner dies.
RayWright replied to Social Media's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
From stats (USA Deaths 2017 & USA Deaths-Leading Causes), i.e. the last year that both these reports have been published for. Most causes of death as you would expect are medical related, i.e. disease / cancer at 87%, whereas injury is 13%. Agree if you know you're going, then as long as you have your facilities (Alzheimers 5.3% and growing), then you can notify accordingly. However with 13% related to Injury (ignoring suicide) , hence looking for a mechanism that would assist the person(s) / agencies who "find you". The "Letter of Wishes" approach, is only as good as the information contained at time of writing. Mobile PIN's, account passwords are changeable, either by you, or more likely forced by the Service Provider, plus how to support any new subscriptions you might take out. Mine is dated 2019, so somewhat out of date. Plus you're not likely to carry your letter during everyday life. Which is why I was trying to come up with a more flexible, simple and accurate method. With the Mobile phone becoming the "sine qua non" of modern life, it's what you always carry, it's your ID, electronic key, payment wallet, messaging terminal, e-Reader, games machine, camera, etc as well as a mobile telephone. So thinking it's the best choice for displaying an Emergency Contact. -
How to unlock a device when the owner dies.

An interesting dilemma, one which I'm in discussions with my Solictor / executor over at the moment. Current thoughts are to have a lock screen message on my mobile / laptop that says SOS Call Fred Smith +44 1234 567890. If called OOH, then hopefully the person / authorities leave a message. Solicitor to hold details of Google Account, Phone PIN, secondary Google Account (2FA backup if phone compromised) as well as how to access my up to date KeyPass database. For added resilance, then thinking of adding an indelable sticker to rear of the phone with the same SOS message. ( Battery flat or screen damaged). Anyone thinking along the same lines, or have an emergency contact plan in place? -

Jomtien condo bookings for 1 week - weird messages from owners
RayWright replied to henrik2000's topic in Pattaya
If you've booked through AirBnB, then the owner's stats are effected if they force the cancel, hence you'll always find owners will ask the guest to cancel. Also as stated above, short term let's on AirBnB are illegal in Thailand, unless they have a Hotel license. -
