Services that Offer Assistance With Getting a Thai Drivers License
NoDisplayName replied to JimmerJJ's topic in Bangkok
No, you don't have to "start over." They will let you renew your license. I was in China, stuck due to the Covids, when my Thai 2-year license expired. My US state license had expired a few years earlier. I went to Chattuckak DLT last year and was able to get a 5-year license. As my Thai license had expired more that one year prior, I had to do the written test, but no driving test. There is an online training class you'll need to complete, at the end of which you will get a QR scan code to show the DLT appointments clerk. You also need to show the certificate of residence and the health certificate. Then you'll go upstairs and do the physical tests. The bottleneck is the residence certificate. US embassy no longer provides a notarized affidavit for this (check this, I could be wrong!). CW immigration won't give you a residence certificate until you've done your first 90-day report, so if you've come back on a new O/O-A visa, that will add several months to your time event horizon. On the day of your appointment you'll spend 3-4 hours watching training videos, then after lunch, you'll take the computerized tests. One for car, and one for motorcycle. There are websites with practice exams that include most of the questions on the test. -

When did your license expire? I believe you can still renew up to 12 months after expiration. -
It's not the IQ, as in how "smart," but could be about the thinking process. Male and Female brains appear to be wired differently, using slightly different processes to reach conclusions. That may affect an individual's ability to think strategically. If it's an evolved ability, the strategy required to care for children is different that the strategy required to bring down a saber-tooth giraffe.

Retirement visa from an agent
NoDisplayName replied to JustAnotherFarang's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You're a hostage to your current agent. Your visa and extension are technically valid, but not legal according to regulations as written. You won't be able to renew yourself as you're not registered with immigration where you live, and you haven't maintained the required bank balance. Only options are continue with agent, or exit the country and get a new visa in a neighboring country, or come back with a waiver and apply for a visa at immigration. If you try to move to a different agent, you'll be starting out as a new customer paying full price and will have the same problem. You'll just be hostage to the new agent.- 43 replies

Retirement visa from an agent

Do you have 800K in the bank, or are you able to show monthly transfers? Where was your visa/extension stamped? In which province is the agent doing your 90-day reports? -
A lifesaver’s plunge in Pattaya pool becomes his last
NoDisplayName replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
From the linked article. -
Your first sentence was the important one, as you mentioned "vague title." What sort of ownership does the father actually have? Is it something he is legally entitled to, or did he buy a questionable plot from someone without authority to sell it? Reason I ask.......my wife's BIL recently bought some land without a real transferable title near a national park. Land that was deeded by the government to a specific family for subsistence farming, and cannot be legally sold. He was trying to get her to go in on buying a second plot. We passed. I don't imagine a big, tall hansum foreigner building a house on restricted land would go over well in the local community.

From the linked article, it seems some junior vo-tec students were sent to NASA summer camp where they built a satellite out of macaroni and glitter, and soon the French will put it atop a rocket to stick it on the fridge. -
Is Wise App A Higher Commission?
NoDisplayName replied to Neeranam's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It can be almost instantaneous, depending on how your bank processes ACH transfers, but usually same day. I authorize an ACH from my credit union, they process at end of the day (USA time). I get notification of fund received from Wise next morning (USA time). -
Lemme tell you about karma. One time in China I went into a small shop to buy a box of eggs for 4 RMB. I gave the clerk a ten, she gave me 7 RMB change. I held up the eggs with the price showing, and the change she gave me and said try again. She looked it over and gave me another RMB in change. I just smiled and gave her back the correct amount. Later that evening, my girlfriend and I made an omelette. Karma!

Is Wise App A Higher Commission?
NoDisplayName replied to Neeranam's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
If you initiate the transfer from the Wise website/app, there is a fee to transfer from your bank. If you send from your bank or credit union from their website, there should be no charge. Most banks should be offering free ACH transfers nowadays, and Wise does not charge for incoming ACH transfers initiated elsewhere. -
I understand your dilemma. Theft, lying, more theft, leaving accident victims in the street, inciting violence, taunting the bereaved......possibly even posting lies on the intertubes. No wonder you're worried about karma!!!!!
