I love the way some folks portray Gaetz as somehow falling on his sword on this great withdrawal. All for the greater good. If his nomination wasn't so seriously wrong in the first place, it would all be bloody hilarious. Even Trump's acknowledgment of his standing down with, "Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do!" suggests good luck (but not with my administration). Some of Trump's picks look OK and most all will probably get confirmation without too much dirty laundry being aired. Gaetz always was a no-hoper.

Called at the Chonburi Taxation office

I gave them my alien ID number (from yellow tibian bahn and pink ID card). Depending on the horse coming before or after the cart, that could/would be my TIN if/when I get one. Since this bank always ends all communictaions with a comment that further information may be needed in the future (they have never, ever said that the matter is closed to everyone's satisfaction , thanks), giving them a fake number seems like a quicker way of kicking the can a shorther distance down the road. I did manage to keep them happy for a spell by telling them that I am retired here, not eligible for employment and thus not required to have a local TIN. About a year later, they came back and haunted me again as this bank doesn't accept that you can be still living and breathing and not paying tax somewhere: all with the non-compliance resulting in the account being either restricted or closed. I guess they are stuck on the notion that any and all income is either taxable or liable for assessement of being otherwise. -
So, about two days after documents with damaging Gaetz testimony are accessed (but not made public) in an apparent breach, the "best man" for the AG job, according to so many members here, calls it quits. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/11/19/trump-administration-transition/#link-LIR3EDDTO5GTJKWXTMY72D7Q6A

Opening a Thai bank account as a foreigner questions
NanLaew replied to CarbonRod's topic in General Topics
The OP mentions "my SCB Bank account (Pattaya Central Festival location)". If this account is still active, there should be no real need to open a new one. Remit the money, let it fester and then apply for the long-stay. The only documents needed from the bank will be the statement and/or bank book. The former can be ordered online or at any branch and the bank book can be updated at any branch too. -

For the record, I am married and living but not working in Thailand. My UK offshore bank requires me to prove that I am non-UK tax domiciled by presenting them with a TIN from the revenue department of the country where I claim I am domiciled. The reality of "I am not liable for taxation anywhere" is no longer an option and results in the account being either 'resticted' or closed. The UK offshore bank's KYC (know your customer) regulations are driven by their requirment to comply with the edicts of the US banking industry while Thailand's latest tax grab is driven by their wish to become a full member of the OECD. Catch 22 -
Pretty fair comparison? From wiki (my emphasis) 'It was one of the most repressive police organisations in the world, infiltrating almost every aspect of life in East Germany, using torture, intimidation and a vast network of informants to crush dissent. ... Officers tortured prisoners by isolating them, depriving them of sleep and using psychological tricks such as threatening to arrest relatives. ... The Stasi also conducted espionage and other clandestine operations outside the GDR through its subordinate foreign-intelligence service..." Hardly.

Called at the Chonburi Taxation office

Similar to Udon Thani except they insisted all paperwork be completed and filed in their office and the TIN would be issued after their assessment and only if any tax owed was paid. If no tax was owed then no TIN would be issued. So they had to look at the internet before being able to do what they're trained and paid to do. At least they issued the TIN. Well done. -

Where are your knees? Nothing wrong with that barrier. It's higher than a condo balcony. The cctv didn't reveal any "motorbike driving on the path" either. But it did reveal the victim climbing over the barrier. -

I agree with everything you write regarding what the police should and should not be doing, but your 'The Stasi' anaolgy is ludicrous. You're not Labour MP Graham Stringer by any chance?

They're even polluting the "Casual Encounters - Women looking for Men" group on Locanto. Most are identifying as a cock in a frock but you have to sift through more LB profiles to get to what you really want: a forty-something, older, fatter, self-confessed, fun-seeking "dirty" woman that can host on Sukhumvit.

Why do so many Thai prostitutes marry their customers?
NanLaew replied to MalcolmB's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
More recently, farang lonelyhearts have been charmed by the more respectable, early middle-aged and well kept Thai spinsters with a good government job and a guaranteed pension. Then they find the car she drives him around in and the house they share is hocked to the eyeballs and she's only got 10 more years of her paltry government stipend with no hope of keeping car and house long enough to reach pension age.
