Report Expat Confusion Grows as Thailand Cracks Down on Helmet Law Violations
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As I already suggested, it's your brain. Use it or lose it. PS: I haven't checked on lazada but, maybe you have a clue, how e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e is a brain? -
What did the man's skin color have to do with his (lack of suitable) attire? Good point well made.

Report Expat Confusion Grows as Thailand Cracks Down on Helmet Law Violations

It does appear from the wording of the article that some busybody know-it-all farangs are getting their panties in a bunch about a local form of 3-wheel transportation that they neither have nor use.- 223 replies

Several years ago, a mate of mine, post-op and headed home to the UK, had the seal break on his temporary colostomy bag at around 31'000 feet over India. I'm pretty sure that some passengers swore to never fly with BA ever again.

I rode the inter-terminal train at BKK yesterday morning and casually observed a white bloke in his wife beater, holding onto the overhead grab handle with his sweaty, hairy armpit about a foot away from the face of an Asian woman. I guess she's already told all her friends about her gross 45-second travel experience, so thought I would share it with you.

So getting someone else's nits and cooties is far more dangerous than getting your brains splattered all over the pavement? If you are a habitual, frequent or otherwise necessary pillion on a motorbike taxi, buy your own bloody helmet. It's your brain, so USE IT! Get a grip.- 223 replies

Talk about being dim. He's been self-destructing ever since. Putin's played him, and now the markets have his non-game sussed out.

Finance Foreign Nationals Face Account Bans in Bangkok Bank Crackdown
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, that change has happened within the past few weeks. Prior to that, Bangkok Bank was pretty much instantaneous as well. There's some debate on other threads on how there's probably been a change in corresponding banks or the payment processor. -

We have to assume that your Thai bank account isn't with Bangkok Bank. -

It's 220 baht and that's a fee that obviously troubles the "resident tourist" on a pension. -
Report British Man Nabbed Smuggling Cannabis from Bangkok to Newcastle
NanLaew replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
More like the "absolute garbage reputation of British travelers" to me. They've been nailed in Georgia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and now Austria. Unfortunately, for the moment, cannabis can legally be bought in Thailand for consumption in Thailand. Where does that suggest that it is OK to take masses of it back home? Would this guy have ever considered bringing some hashish from Amsterdam, where the local purchase and consumption is legal? The low IQ of a certain British traveling demographic has absolutely nothing to do with Thailand. -
Report British Holidaymaker Dies in Bangkok: A Mother’s Heartfelt Warning

That probably depends on how desperate the dealer is, no? -

And in the west, they probably bought it directly from someone they trusted. Here, they bought something from someone who got it from someone whose language they probably didn't speak. There's something tragically Darwin-like in this report. -

Finance Foreign Nationals Face Account Bans in Bangkok Bank Crackdown

So you think Bangkok Bank has a lot of dodgy accounts? It was a branch of SCB in Pattaya where the four employees were found to be involved with improperly setting up accounts for foreigners who did not qualify. That's quite a blinkered view. Just as some Thai bank employees may be dishonest, I would suggest the amount of dishonest foreigners living in Thailand is far, far higher. Why does a bona fide tourist need a bank account in any country where he doesn't live? -
Wise transfer lost
NanLaew replied to bondjames007's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Wise still offers the same drop-down menu for the reason. I have used either 'personal expenses' or 'for family' on the previous, instantaneous transfers. It may be the case, and it seems that Wise now offers 'within 8 hours' or 'next day' for Bangkok bank, depending on what time of the day the transfer is initiated. For info, the transfer I mentioned earlier posted here at 14:01 local time (Bangkok bank push notification), with Wise saying it was 14:13 (in their app). Looking at the previous push notification from Bangkok bank, international deposits have been flagged 'from MOBILE' (both Wise and SWIFT), whereas the one that took longer today says 'from AUTO'. I will go online and see if the coding or description of the deposits has changed. That could indicate a shift in local intermediary, or maybe not.
