  1. I have been enlightened, thanks. Never had the need to book a "lifeboat" before arriving so interesting to know that they're available. I am sure that those with a dire need for such assistance will already have the contact info required. I've never seen it mentioned, but then again, I'm not looking for it.
  2. You can do a virtual OGUK medical online and get a certificate. We just just had a joining crew member renew theirs online through a UK company with the participation of our on site Medic. It was accepted by both his employer and our client. I think the cost was around £150. google is your friend
  3. Udon Thani town traffic is bad on the daily rush hours and all-day at weekends, same as pretty much any other major Thai conurbation and especially Pattaya. The dining choices are far more varied these days, western, Korean, Japanese, Indian... there's even some genyoowine Isaan tucker!! Of course, if driving and parking for dinner is too much of a faff about or even if one can't be arsed to rustle-up something in one's own kitchen, there's delivery and, even in bad traffic, that's pretty fast (unless it's raining).

  5. So you asked a date about her politics? You poor thing. I guess you had already sussed out that third-base was unlikely, let alone a home-run, so decided to pull the pin on that time-served date fragmentation grenade of the "who did you vote for?" question. Anyway, I must remember to use that next time and maybe avoid waking up with another Coyote Ugly due to my own "complicated socio-sexual reasons".

  7. I much prefer the Tomahawk Chop hand gesture when alluding to Tonto and those of that ilk. But, I have been mistaken for a Houston Texans fan for doing it, so as always, context remains paramount.
  8. They do? My understanding from multiple 'Help! I am in IDC now'! threads on here is that if an IO at either decides against allowing you to enter, you're toast. If there's "Mr Fixit" agent option at either airport, it's the first I've heard of it. That doesn't include the many, many 'I was almost denied entry!' threads from those gushing sorts with a low threshold of excitement, boring us with irrelevancies.
  9. Saying quite a lot about you? Yes. Lifestyle comparisons between Muang Udon Thani and Pattaya, maybe not so much? I did the whole, wild hedonistic Pattaya decade back in the 1980's. Unforgettably great but I digress. After a total 16-year Thailand hiatus, I returned around 2006 and did Pattaya 2013-2018 as the filling in an Udon Thani "sandwich". I much prefer the sumptuous Issan bread to the cloying Pattaya sandwich spread. But that's just me.
  10. Papafarang's pies in Kutchap, west of Muang Udon Thani. Well worth the pilgrimage.
  11. For the lovers of acronyms among us, DEI is DOA
  12. Meaning what exactly? Meaning @BMW Overlander is offering nothing much of substance.
  13. Oh, don't get me started. Way back, when I was in Catholic School, ...
  14. ROFLMAO... where's the industrial-military complex when you need it?
  15. There's a great song by Don Henley and Glenn Frey called Get Over It. If you don't know the words then you should just try humming it.
  16. By the same token, millions of people voting for Trump isn't exactly drenched in rationality. Don't get me wrong. I am not anti-Trump and the bitch-slap he delivered to the Democrats last November was way, way overdue. It's just I am not so far up Trump's ass as many here appear to be.
  17. It is if you have a relatively complex income 'portfolio' but decide to do DIY accountancy rather than hire a professional accountant and/or tax adviser where your income streams are nested.
  18. Spaniards and other EU residents. It's those non-EU types buying up 'investment' properties that they want to block. The UK should take a leaf from this playbook, especially in the ridiculously expensive London and the southeast, where the greater amount of those born and bred there have no hope of buying a home where they live and work. However, I reckon that's way, way too big a cash cow for the already obscenely rich and self-entitled toffs to yield on.
  19. Yes, but it is not automatic. I have not always been offered the choice when making a payment at a checkout with a touch-and-go type card payment, but I have had sales staff who are processing the payment 'manually' offer the POS device so that I can make the choice. I have noted that some sales staff will do that selection and not offer you the choice, but I am not sure if that is their employer's policy or something they do just to speed-up the payment process.
  20. What "crucial updates"? With absolutely bugger all new from the RD, the situation is unchanged.
  21. I agree as well. I just shake my head at the "sheeple" who, overcome with panic wrought of ignorance, have closed their hard-won Thai bank accounts, terminated their affordable Thai rental agreements, sold the microwave and floor fan, given their Scoopy to the girlfriend and buggered off to Cambodia already.
  22. To have a smile like George Clooney.
  23. This is by far the easiest and most sensible option for such a small order. These little embroidery kiosks are in hallways at Lotus's, Big C's and shopping malls all over the country. They have the latest tech to scan images and/or text and turn it into embroidered name tags, logos and the like.
