I thought it would get easier here at older age
NanLaew replied to Chinagmaiguy's topic in General Topics
Total conflation of 'face' and kriengjai with respect. Since these are unique to Thailand, it doesn't apply to farangs unless they've been here so long they think they deserve it. -
I had a yabaa dealer opposite side of the street, two doors down. Daytime it was all quiet, you would swear the house was unoccupied. But between 2 am and 4 am, there was a steady stream of loud motorbikes as his customers come collect. Maybe two or three, sometimes half a dozen or more. So, fuelled with "deep jealousy and spitefulness", I grassed him. He was arrested. It's all nice and quiet now.

Since both the previous "winners" have seen BOTH their parties disbanded, and the most recent members given Draconian political bans, with their most recent, most charismatic 'leader' pursuing a fellowship at Harvard University's Kennedy School in the US, who do you see as "winning" next time around?

Maybe the OP should get a t-shirt with "I used to work for your government" printed in Thai. That should get him the respect he thinks he deserves. -

Finance Foreign Nationals Face Account Bans in Bangkok Bank Crackdown
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It is. Hence, I will forego getting the Argos app as the non-Thai banking apps may have even more restrictive and secure set-up procedures that are beyond just a simple VPN workaround. But, I may give it a go on my other smartphone that doesn't have any banking apps to be messed with. In the meantime, the Argos webdev fobbed me off with using their FAC and failing that, their Livechat bot. -

Where would we be if trump didn’t kill the nuclear agreement with Iran
NanLaew replied to Tug's topic in Political Soapbox
we do? -
Yes, if they don't actually see the 20k baht (don't ask to see it, or look away if it's waved under their noses), then it didn't exist, therefore you didn't have it, therefore you are denied entry. Simples. It is fundamentally the same principle that applies to a local on a scooter when they shoot out of a side-street without looking. If they looked first and see another vehicle approaching, they would be required to stop. However, the driver of the oncoming vehicle can't avoid seeing the scooter in front of them and, having seen it, must give way. Simples.

Absolutely correct, if only because of the following. -
Is Trump dismantling the British Impirial System?
NanLaew replied to save the frogs's topic in Political Soapbox
Yup, this is the guy who just told his press secretary to tell the world of the "fact" that there's a "substantial chance" of a meeting with Iran that "may or may not" happen. At least his bite-sized word salads pass through the system quicker. -
Not getting the same discounts as a person who is a native to Thailand and claiming racial discrimination is quite frankly hilarious. Is this opinion (frozen) pension-related by any chance?

Google suggests clearing app data as well as the app cache. This doesn't uninstall the app, but does a deeper purge? That latter option may open a can of worms, like rendering my non-Thai banking apps inoperable? -
Issue Getting Retirement Extension
NanLaew replied to leytonorient's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Hypothetical: What if it is a farang landlord who doesn't have a registered company but owns several condominiums that he rents out for his 'living the dream' income here? -
Is Trump dismantling the British Impirial System?
NanLaew replied to save the frogs's topic in Political Soapbox
Good point, but Trump's allegiances are forged on personal feeling and not national interests. Since his first rodeo, he has always bigged-up Putin as a great guy and a good friend, but he hasn't spoken much, if at all, of the Russian people. He is also having a love-in with Starmer (for now) but doesn't seem to like Macron very much, or Zelenskyy at all. He hasn't said too much about Xi lately either. -

That's what my buddy said after he ejaculated in the jacuzzi in a Brisbane whorehouse with his consort before I could use it.

Nothing different or new here. Just another anti-globalist hater of Soros, G7, left-wing politics, communism, the Democrats and things of that nature. The last I read, the British Empire had voluntarily exceeded its own 'use by' date and that was way, way, WAY before the current POTUS was hatched. -

I can't install the Argos (UK) app. I couldn't even do it while I was in the UK with a UK ip address. I tried several times on both my phones while passing through the UK, when Google had my account in Thailand AND when they briefly relocated me to the US. One of those devices was my second smartphone with a UK SIM and connected over 3 mobile data in the UK and also via BT Wi-Fi. Play Store no longer finds the Argos app in a Play Store search. Using the embedded link on the Argos website brings it up in Play Store with the note, "This app is not available for any of your devices". It's no longer about ip addresses, geolocation or VPN's as far as the Play Store is concerned. It's about where Google 'hosts' your account AND the permissions that the app owner/developer installs. I have just emailed their app developer to ask how they restrict installations.
