  1. They saved 'a lot' of American and Allied forces lives against an already defeated Japanese military. That's why the nuclear option is also known as 'overkill'.
  2. Totally agree, but radical right-wing zealots are a threat in EVERY political theater where they get bandwidth, not just the ones in the Knesset. So, how do we stop them? Third-party mediation that's NOT overtly Judeo-Christian (America) or overtly Muslim (Qatar). Maybe the Chinese could do more? Banging on about Palestinian genocide is an alignment with Hamas, Assad and other proxies of Iranian extremism, and is NOT the way.
  3. No, it would be better if they stopped their vile, theocracy-driven hatred of their neighbours. It would be better if they treated their own people with honesty and civility. The Persians are cultured and civilised, with a proud history that's being eroded and erased by the madness of their mullahs in their clamor to wrest the title of the protector of Islam from their Saudi neighbours.
  4. And when they do, all the bleeding hearts with their mail-order keffiyeh take to western streets demanding people listen to their 'genocide' nonsense.
  5. Israel and the UNHCR have shown more humanity to the Palestinians than any of their Arab 'brothers'. There's a reason that nobody wants them. Mind games then.
  6. No. They don't have a death wish. The future: An enduring impasse or more of the same, but different. The mid-east conflict won't impact "the entire world and humanity". I will remain in Thailand until the same private and personal reasons that I hold now cause me to leave.
  7. Talking of things Star Wars... maybe "Jabba was here"?
  8. Maybe you're an even older Brut aficionado and liked to "splash it on all over" like our 'enry?
  9. For the past couple of days, upper Isaan has been hotter (and drier) than the Emirates.
  10. That's hardly "ripping up" anything. Looks like a limited amount of flagstones have been lifted for some cable work. This is what I call ripped up. Now, stop gurning.
  11. Fairly recent experience posted on this forum indicated that it's one aspect of Chiang Mai immigration's unique arseholeyness.
  12. I think most member's posts here have been shaded by their own, suboptimal life and work choices in Thailand. That, and an overindulgence in anecdotal tales.
  13. Just for information: how do you manage having money from overseas arriving at the right time each month for 12 months? Some Immigration offices are pretty anal about the monthly amount and date criteria for retirement extensions, some even insisting on evidence that it is from a pension. Just wondering if they are a bit more relaxed when it comes to timing of monthly income transfers for a marriage extension. For example, this month was double-faulted with the UK's Easter Bank Holiday on 1 April followed by the Chakri Day off on 8 April over here. Of course, the amount is easy to manage, as one just adds on a bit extra to ensure that forex rates and other fees are accounted for.
  14. Vehement opponents on AN or in general? Does that mean women have less sexual hangups?
  15. That 'head office hotline' waiver option was similar to what my friend experienced after several false starts and misinformation at his local SCB when it was first announced that this would apply to 'all banks'.
  16. Is it possible that because the OP's memory stick restore file is 18 months old, W11 was trying to do a whole slew of OTA updates? Turning it off and on is simply prolonging this? I do recall that some early W10 updates were all very mysterious with a blank screen and no indication that anything was happening, which would result in the impatient restarting and getting nowhere fast. Leaving it to 'do its thing' overnight usually sorted out that mess. If the OP took the machine to a shop and had the HD replaced while updating was 'in progress) and, assuming some HD cloning was done, then it's possible that this has crashed the OTA updates.
  17. Then don't faff about with the latter? Ultimately, it's placing peanuts above her financial security.
  18. Actually not when it is in your name only. Thailand does not provide pay on death and will have to go through normal court process from my understanding. Easier to give your wife the PIN for the card associated with the account. Sorted. It's all about trust.
  19. I enabled mine at the main branch of Bangkok Bank in a provincial capital. With my passport and their app already installed on my phone, it took about ten minutes. It works. I have read, and my friend confirmed, that SCB says that it doesn't apply to non-Thai account holders, only Thai account holders. Your experience may vary from bank to bank and from branch to branch of the same bank.
