Why does cataract surgery require a hospital stay in Thailand?
2017 Rutnin Eye Hospital, Bangkok. First eye was done on a Monday. I was staying at a hotel a short walk from hospital so stayed there and returned Wednesday for the second eye. Again, walked back the same day to the hotel. Following day, back to Chiang Mai.

Moving services claim no liability for damage
I used Chiang Mai Removals 3 times for whole house moves here in Chiang Mai. All packed with lots of bubble wrap, boxes, padding in trucks, longest move about 12 Km. Nothing broken. Just my experience.

North Carolina GOP Candidate Wants to ‘Go Back to the America Where Women Couldn’t Vote’
Obviously, he is not a student of history. Oh, Republicans can make a factual claim as to the Civil War Era but today’s Republican Party is not Lincoln’s Republican Party. And social change fought for by Republicans? This is why some folks do not want history taught, so they can try to convince you of their wishful thinking. Nope, not going to take my time to list the social advances fought against by Republicans …. But I will affirm as an Emeritus Professor of History.

Swiss national opts for jail after assaulting Thai woman in mall
My mind asked the question whether he might be thinking he would be safer in jail than risk Thai citizen retribution by vigilante action?

Thaksin to visit Chiang Mai next week
With our current AQI readings, an oxygen bottle is recommended for all. Sad ... In good conscience, health wise, I could not recommend anyone visiting Chiang Mai currently.

What is wrong?
My issue was often the surface on which I used the mouse. Just a thought.

British man quits England for Thailand’s tropical tranquility
Yes, I had flashing lights appearing from the get go in coming to Thailand on a one way ticket … no doubt, we are not given the complete story. As written, I cannot understand how it would be possible.

Why am I here?
Agreed. A bit more, in the interest of full disclosure. Retirement included a policy which will pay up to $5K a year if outside the USA. I had a heart attack here in 2015, they paid the $5K and I had to eat the remaining $6K.

Safest country during WWIII?
Agreed. On many minds as a clear and present danger.

If you can't be happy in Thailand
Now age 77 and still enjoy driving car and motorbike in Thailand, as I have over the past 13 years. Always tell folks it is a sure test for alzeimers as your brain has to be firing on all cylinders every moment driving ... if not? Meat, bone and blood everywhere!

Thai banks to charge for transactions abroad
Just my experience on the two USA credit cards I use here. No charges for use here (CapOne and Amex).

Former-PM Yingluck acquitted by Supreme Court
Up to Thais, of course but I'm thinking the reconciliation scheme is: Allow both overthrown Prime Ministers to return AND no retribution to those involved in the two military coups that overthrew them. Based on? Only speculation ...

Colonoscopy
I relate my experience really only to bring a smile to you. I had two Colonoscopies over the years in the USA. The last one they found some polyps and cauterized but ... OK, there I am on my side, drugged but awake. So, the Doctor hands me his end of the tube and says, "here take a look"! Closest I have gotten to putting my head up my own ...

Thai committee urges Pheu Thai to expedite political amnesty
While I acknowledge this, the question is raised if it would clear all who had a hand in the coups overthrowing the elected government.

Why am I here?
Major reason I retired to a lower cost country was that I was out priced in the USA. That is still valid on my sustainable $2400.00 usd per month budget. Ha! Retirements for many working middle class “outsourced”. Poor, poor pitiful me, forced to live in Thailand … ha! I feel like Br’er Rabbit having been thrown into the Br’er Patch.

Your personal opinion guns
American, and left of center leaning politically. Let's see, right before retirement and move to Thailand, I owned a pump shotgun I had used rarely for dove, rabbit hunting. 30-30c with scope used only target shooting on my 18.4 acres, inherited Dad's 38c pistol, owned 38c snub nosed, 22 fold down backpack rifle (you may remember from a James Bond movie), favorite was a target pistol thought of as home protection was an .308 Bersa PPK knockoff. went through training/testing to hold a Kentucky Concealed Deadly Weapon License (mostly so I could put in car glove compartment without fearing getting cited for having a Concealed Deadly Weapon (leave in on dashboard, on seat and it would not be considered concealed). I support hunting gun and pistol for home protection (not to protect property but threaten me of household members and I would shoot you dead without any remorse). I favor out lawing assault style weapons (reinstitution the 1990s bi-partisan law), outlaw "bump-stocks, outlaw large ammunition magazines. ALL "Rights" under the American Bill of Rights have restrictions, the current 2nd amendment interpretation is not valid. The history and English language wording is clear, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

What paperwork is needed to do a 90 day report in person?
Certainly all I need at the 90 Day Drive Up Window here in Chiang Mai.

Weakening Thai baht forecast due to economic and freight cost factors
Good news for our family. Monthly transfers meaning a bit more to spend on March. Not all negative for Thailand. The baht will remain in Thailand and support a Thai Wife and zstepdaughter which would not happen if I were to be priced out of the market like I was in my home country. The result might well be the same … look for another country in which to call home.

Almost denied on entry
I did note with a very good feeling, when the Passport control officer said, “Welcome Home”. Sadly, that one time stands out in my mind due to its rarely.

Almost denied on entry
That’s cause everybody is out to get us … well, that is what we are told by some. Other’s of us would say if we have so many wishing us ill, what are we doing to piss far too many off?! As an American, I long ago lost the ability to criticize other countries before looking at what the US systems demand.

Almost denied on entry
As is true around the world, “money talks, nobody walks”. Too bad if you don’t have the money …

Using a webcam on a PC for photos
Recommend using your mobiles camera. Much clearer and can more easily align documents. My camera automatically syncs to my computer but I use all Apple (iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air).

Extending ‘marriage visa’
"Under Consideration" for Extension of stay after initial Marriage based Visa last year here in Chiang Mai. all documents again and each page needing signature (which becomes quickly illegible).

Agent Retirement Visa and 90 day reports
I have used an agency in the past to do 90 Day Reports, just for not needing to be bothered with the hassle. Here in Chiang Mai, however, there is a Drive Up Window at Immigration. Hand the document and Passport in. Officer checks against the computer and updates, hands all back. Matter of a minute or two (barring any issue). We just moved last month so, I had an agent update the TM30, 90 Day Report and get a Residence Certificate as I was renewing the 5 year MB and car Driver Licenses.
