Thai children losing out on height due to too little milk
jaywalker2 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's true that increased protein intake is the main reason behind bigger and stronger bodies. In just the 20 years I was in Japan, younger Japanese men and women grew several inches taller than their parents (bust sizes also increased from the women). The average height of a Japanese male now is around 172 centimeters, I believe, which is almost the same as Americans. Go to a museum in Japan and you'll be amazed how short the samurai were. They were literally midgets. The same phenomenon is occurring in Thailand. If you look at the children from well-to-do-families, a lot of them are huge. In particular, you see tall robust women that you rarely saw before. Milk is good for you. It contains about 8 grams of protein per cup along with calcium and vitamin B2. And while it's true that most Asians suffer from lactose intolerance, there are lactose free milks available now, and generally Asians can tolerate dairy products if they're incorporated into food rather than taken by themselves. -
Yes, geat, and now I have to find a new bank as well if that's possible. The problem is that what one Thai bank does all of them usually end up doing. I doubt very much that they've terminated corporate internet banking. This is probably only for retail customers and one more strategy to force us to abandon cash for mobile apps.

You don't get it. It's a mobile phone. It's more suscepitible to spam, to call center scammers, to malicious software, to data mining. Look at how many apps in the Google's Play Store turned out to be stripping data before they were finally discovered (and Tik Tok still is). And security measures like two-factor authentication are meaningless when you're using the same device for both factors. Sure, a lot of the problems are caused by human error. But costly errors are much easier with a mobile phone. Look at the way most people carry their phones, in their back pockets or they leave them sitting out. I have found at least 3 phones that I can remember that were lost. How anybody can all any of this secure is beyond me.

Mobile banking isn't recognized as the most secure method of accessing online accounts. Where did you get that idea? Nearly every day there's another article about accounts being scammed and it's always through the mobile apps. Phones are easy to steal and if that happens, the perpetrator can often readily gain access to your accounts. And that's not even including the dangers of accidentally downloading a malicious app.

Appointment at US Embassy Bangkok
jaywalker2 replied to tjansen's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
2 minutes! Unbelievable. But if you arrive early they will let you in right away. And when I was there, it wasn't busy at all since they've eliminated most of their services. So there was no waiting. This despite the fact that all the appointments for a month has supposedly been filled. -
Yes, but these are all technical issues. My point is that laws like these, vaguely worded, open to subjective interpretation by biases courts, exist not for their stated purpose but to provide a legal tool to undermine political opposition. The definition of "media company" is so broad that it encompasses companies that could not possibly influence elections in any way. Thanatorn was driven out by this law. Now they're trying to do the same thing to Pita. In neither case had they violated the intent of the law.
-
Yet when it was revealed that a Palang Pracharat MP owned 200 shares of AIS, the Constitutional Court ruled that he did not violate the law because such a small number of shares would not give him any influence. In other words, the Court recognized that it wasn't the act of owning shares but the influence that those shares gave you that mattered.
-
These arguments are mostly beside the point. The original purpose of the law was to ensure an MP candidate couldn't unduly influence an election due to his control of media holdings. Even if Pita owned the ITV shares they wouldn't endow him with any influence over the media. The law has just become another way for conservative elite to undermine valid elections.

I have the Samsung Galaxy A13. No complaints, but I'm not a heavy phone user. I've had Samsungs for years and never had a problem. -
COVID makes comeback in Thailand as booster fatigue leaves door open
jaywalker2 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I made it through the the 20-21 outbreaks and thought I was in the clear. Ended up getting it anyway just a few months ago. I never got any boosters and it was mild but then the girlfriend and her whole family go it. I became convinced that everybody is going to get it. And I haven't had the flu in more than 10 years. -
You've got a lot of Thais fleeing Thailand as well. I met a Thai woman studied in the U.S., became a doctor, and settled in California. She was back visiting and I asked her if she ever thought about moving back to Thailand. "Who would ever want to live here if they didn't have to?" she said. America is great if you've got money.

Tesla to Open its First Service Center in Thailand
jaywalker2 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
i saw one on the road the other day. There are also charging stations in the parking garage at Villa. I'm betting Tesla's will be big in Thailand even if the price tag for the cheapest model is around 2 million baht. -
Girlfriend start having pain around on the right side around the liver region a few days ago. It was uncomfortable so she went to the hospital. Right off the bat they recommended a full body CT scan. It revealed that all of her organs were functioning normally but there was two "hypodense masses" (not the cause of the pain). Next, they wanted to do an MRI. They had also given her an ultrasound and according to the technician it revealed nothing. So said forget it. They never diagnosed the cause of the pain which went away by itself anyway right after she saw the bill.
