Are you cruising for a piece of aged ass?
-
It does, but it's not. He's a lifelong friend of my former coworker who retired to Pattaya years ago. We discussed the topic last night over 2 for 1 cocktails at the Sportsman. The ripped guy hasn't been able to visit for years, and won't ever be able to do so again due to complications from hip replacement surgery (x2). He played goalie in an ice hockey league until his late 60s.

I rode my scooter through Chantaburi last month and it will forever be the durian place to me. The ripe durian on the trees and in the back of massive trucks had a really nice smell to it. I still haven't tried durian though. The region was lush and felt quite tropical. I'll definitely go back when the rains abate.

He was also one of the most cheerful, positive posters on this board. Always out walking and exploring in the sunshine. It's almost as if he was too busy to criticize other people's life choices and attack other posters, or maybe I'm mistaken. That was a long time ago.

I've been stuck sitting beside people who eat like that and it makes me want to smother them. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/misophonia-sounds-really-make-crazy-2017042111534 -
Shouldn't this be moved to the gay area?

That says more about how imbalanced our society is than the men who respond by leaving the mess behind. A man with kids and grandkids has been a mule pulling the cart for his entire adult life. His reward is a frigid wife and indifferent children who will stick him in a care home at the earliest opportunity. Women in other cultures put out, because if the man cheats the shame is on her for not taking care of his sexual needs. Checks and balances that no longer exist in Western culture. I knew a guy whose wife sent him to Thailand twice a year once they hit 60, and told him to go nuts. She had lost her sex drive but he was still full on. The guy was ripped and very fit; not ready to join the ranks of the celibate. His wife told us that he had been an "excellent husband, father, and provider for the family. Why shouldn't he be able to have sex because I have lost interest?" The guy was in his late 60s and banging 3 to 5 girls a day, and usually had 2 of them in his bed every night.

You sound like the "millionaire next door" type, she isn't. She has to create an aura of success to sell herself and solutions to living abroad that more clever people devised and published long ago. How one differentiates their service or product in such a saturated market is beyond my understanding. It's a tough gig and I respect anyone who believes in themself enough to strike out on their own. She's still at the "fake it until you make it" phase and at 40 is almost out of runway.

Why did you call her "a piece of garbage"? She has a myopic view based on limited experience in a heavily tourist oriented part of the country. Of course that subset of men exists, I just disagree that they form the majority of men who move here. One can't dismiss the rage that Western women feel when they've relegated a large subset of men to a trash heap, only to see those men doing well in another country.

The meaningles statement "not wrong" has been making the rounds lately. This isn't a binary issue, it's more nuanced and one must consider the source and their biases. It's like the incels blaming women for their issues. They're "not wrong" on many of them but it's hardly a balanced or reasonable perspective. YouTube is the ultimate forum for narcissistic individuals, so I'm not sure if we can get an accurate measure of Thailand expats from videos like the one in the link. I'm not sure that it's even an accurate representation of Pattaya. Many of those vloggers can't even record scenery without sticking their hand into the frame and wagging it about.

Take a gander at her YouTube chanel. Pot, meet kettle. She grew up in Latvia and moved to England at 18 or 19, if memory serves. If you're referring to the Thairish Times interview watch the video again. This time take note of her surroundings. The woman claims to be successful but look at the furniture and television in the room behind her. Very shabby, low quality stuff, not what somebody who had many years of success working in The City would be surrounded by. No doubt there is some truth in what she said, but the observations are from a woman who is past her prime and is used to men back home throwing themselves at her feet. No man here needs to do that with so many younger, agreeable Thai options available. If you're craving a stringy, 40 year old Eastern European woman one can be rented cheaply enough and sent on her way when you're done with her. She isn't special over here and that burned her. She can live without a man, but not without male validation.

I did it for the last 4 years of my working life. I had a good job with a defined benefit pension and a 7 on 7 off schedule. My employer was fine with how I chose to live and our workplace had 24/7 access to 2 kitchens, a shower and a gym. They let me plug in during the winter because solar panels do nothing during the winter. My savings rate was astronomical and gave me the option to refuse the covid injections and take early retirement whilst my indebted coworkers were coerced into taking the shots against their will. My summer weeks off were spent trout fishing, cycling, road trips and visiting family and friends. I usually spent 11 weeks per year in the winter here in Thailand. In addition to saving 100k in rent and most of my income, the value of my van has increased since I bought it. Nowhere near as much as real estate, but it didn't depreciate like automobiles usually do.

This is a good thread, but why did the OP omit the most obvious reason people don't uproot and move across the planet, which would be ties with friends and family? One poster alluded to subsidized housing. The wait lists for that option are years long and the rent still eats up most of their income. Many social housing projects are dangerous as hell and the only thing more vulnerable than a senior citizen is a cripple. A crippled senior is the ultimate meat animal in that food chain. I believe that moving to Thailand would give those people a much better standard of living. Stating that people must have 800k to deposit is ignoring the visa agent option. The hundreds of passports I saw at one agent's office last year gives a good indication that the agent option isn't going to disappear any time soon. Jomtien won't accept my income letter and I wasn't prepared to transfer 800k out of an investment account to have it sitting in a dead account over here, so the visa agent and IO won the day. The service was so good that I'll use the same route again this year. 12k for a renewal is peanuts. As for medical issues one would have to question why someone who is sick and dirt poor would want to prolong that existence instead of taking whatever joy they can up front in exchange for a shorter life. Canadians now have the option of going back home and having our wonderful government euthanize them.

Pricing in Queen Sirikit hospital, Sattahip
Bobthegimp replied to Steven55's topic in Health and Medicine
Sorry to be a dick but the question is too vague to answer. That hospital is cheaper than private hospitals by a long shot, but that reply is as vague as the question. What's wrong with the old gaffer and which services might he require? There might be a partial price list online that would give you a general idea. A friend of mine had a partial knee replacement done there and was happy with the service. The result wasn't great due to a nasty infection, but that can and does happen anywhere. Best wishes to your friend. Getting old sucks, but the alternative is final. -

Columbo has entered the thread. I wear "Keen" sandals, which are great for walking, hiking and using on the flat pedals of my bike. -
Like the Aussie cops bashing old ladies on a park bench because they weren't wearing masks. They're tough in groups with their guns and clubs, but get them alone and it's usually a different story, like with every other bully.

Your time is limited, what are you waiting for?

I see very little reality in any of your posts. Do the guys in their 70s remind you of your low station in life and the futility of your dreams of retiring to Thailand? -

By most accounts Jobs was a vile, detestable man. He sure didn't waste time on showers and personal hygiene, so there is that. -
