i see you do’t like the cut of Dr Mercola’s jib; it’s true he seems to have sailed close to the wind on some occasions e.g. tanning beds. For myself, I have found his advice on intermittent and ketofasting helpful. I was 120 kgs and was able to lose 40 kgs. I also followed his advice on oil pulling, which is swilling extra virgin coconut oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes each day. This is much more healthy than using alcohol based mouth wash. Also his advice on getting a good night’s sleep (no computers or electronic devices in the bedroom).
For those readers who, like xylophone, don’t like Dr Mercola, I have done an internet search and found an article by Steven Mosher. It explains why the Nerd Scientist believes that Dr Shi Zhingli (Bat Woman) cannot be believed or trusted about the virus strain RaTG13.
So thank you xylophone for your post, as it nudged me to find a very good and interesting alternative.
I am not a virologist and I do not pretend to understand the technical data. However, that article seems very long allegation and very short on evidence or substance; a lot of jumping to conclusions. When a lot of the allegations come from someone who is not prepared to put his/her name to the allegations there is a huge credibility gap.

Xpat pensioners should take out a class action suit against the DWP to get the pension as residents. It should be made illegal as it is discrimination. Does anyone know if your pension was lower if you lived in a European Country prior to Brexit?
A few years ago overseas pensioners (from Canada I think) took UK Government to court and the Government won. They appealed to European Court of Justice and again the Government won.
It is outrageous. The law says we are entitled to the annual increases, but every year the Government puts a statutory implement before parliament to stop us getting it.

Forgive a dinosaur, but do I need to download the app to use the QR code and do I need an internet connection when entering a mall?

Or do we just have to wait until Sunday to see what's open?
Don't know where you are, but both Home Pro in Pattaya have been open for most of the time since lock down came into effect.

Thanks Khun Ben. Need to renew my vehicle licence (tax).

I know the LTO has stopped renewing driving licences, but what is the position in respect of vehicle licences.
Thanks

Much the same can be said for Cambodia - 122 cases and no deaths. A fair bet the figures are not quite right, but far from a disaster. Quite unlike China, Europe and USA.
Could the fact that these three countries are in the same part of the world have anything to do with it - Climate, genetic make up of local population etc?

To all of the whingers the answer is simple. Don't open malls for another month.
Some people just do not get where we are at. A fresh outbreak of cases and we will be back to square one.

What exactly are the "anti-congregating measures"? There has to be some sort of definition. How many, what place, what circumstances etc.
Something a vague as that is incapable of a reasonable interpretation and hence enforcement.

I have seen several 7-11 and Family Marts closed down. When these kind of places can't survive a downturn for a couple of months, you know the local economy is shot.

Big C at Central Marina seems to have plenty of stock and was not busy. Looking at the trolleys Leo seems to be the popular item. This was about 12.15.

Thai immigration will be overseeing operation Barmaid at selective outlets. Non Thai nationals will need to bring a copy of the Royal Gazette with them and read out the declaration. They will also need copies of their black green and pink books , 2 translated copies of their last high school report and have a bank statement showing they have 3 million baht in a Thai bank for the last 90 days. The bank statement must not be older than 8 and a half minutes.
And of course you can only buy between 10 PM and 4 AM

Lets see if I have got this right.
Two days of packed supermarkets (or until they run out) - four days of binge drinking - 25 days of hangover and cold turkey.
That is, of course, that the story is true. I still find it hard to believe. A bit of kite flying?

Don't like to be a party pooper, but the lock down introduced on 9th April was all the road blocks.
Don't count your beers until the caps are off.

That's surprising. It was open couple of days ago. I only got as far as the guy with the hand wash and temp gun at the entrance, as he told me the shop I was wanting to go to was closed, but something in there must be up and running to warrant the check.
Could it be the supermarket?

Looks great, but what about social distancing?

Where has this thread gone to. It started with the lock down cock-up and now it full of hot air and wind.
Anyone know what is happening with the lock down going forward?

Since we are talking about numbers, I will give you some so that you understand that all this media hype and these scandalous confinements only exist because there is a very big eel under rockI dare write it, manipulation on a very large scale
1969, the flu killed 25,000 in France alone and in a single month, the month of December
2018 (2 years ago therefore), malaria 228 million patients and 405,000 dead
2018, tuberculosis, 10 million patients and 1.5 million deaths
Dengue: WHO report: According to a recent estimate, there are 390 million cases of dengue per year of which 96 million have clinical manifestations and a number of deaths for the moment relatively low but constantly increasing. ( more explanations on WiKi )
As for the Ebola virus, probably the worst of all to date, its mortality rate varies from 25 to 90%, depending on the epidemic ... By comparison, it is estimated today that 98% of Covid-19 patients heal.
I wonder why all this end of the world cinema. I wonder what is really playing out there, behind the sick and their respirators: are we playing the Great War to better mask the great depression that is coming? Is this an economic war to prepare for the tilting of empires and the collapse of the West?
And of course the economic and social fall out from the instances you quote were just a pinprick compared with the mutilations that that Covid 19 measures are already causing.
Another instance was the last pandemic - swine fever in 2009/10. The high side estimates are 1.4 billion infected and 500,000 deaths. The economic fall out was low, especially as this came on the heels of Leeman Brothers and the sub-prime mortgage scandal.

To OP -
"I never trust statistics unless I have massaged them myself". A quote often attributed to Winston Churchill, although it seems he did not make it. Nevertheless it is still a good observation.
Having said that you do make a very valid point. A lot of the hype about this panic demic needs to be put into perspective; if not your way then some other. I still cannot help feeling that at the end of the day the cure might well be as bad as the sickness.
Lock downs, curfews, face masks, closed boarders etc. etc. seem to have been thrown around with gay abandon without much thought as to whether they are necessary or not; which should vary country by country. Governments need to be seen to be doing something. So when they have taken a few sensible measures they continue to do things whether necessary or not.
Time will tell.

Maybe need to get a bit fitter.
You can always change the mask before you enter.I am quite fit thank you. Always been a heavy sweater - good thing stops body overheating.
Back to the masks - believe me it takes very little sweat to soak a mask as I found out. Masks are already in short supply so why over use when not necessary?

Not including retirees is very unfair as many of us have committed to Thailand and are now ignored.
Even if including any insurance requirements would be a hard hit for those of us who are, to be polite, a bit long in the tooth.
A little bit of pragmatic flexibility is required. I am in Thailand at the moment and do not need to leave, but would like to take a couple of trips. That I can't get back in to my home is ridiculous.
