  1. Ophthalmologists work only in hospitals and there's a nationwide shortage of optometrists. A couple of years ago there was only a handful of optometrists who didn't work in hospitals. The guys in the glasses shops know how to operate machines and sell glasses, nothing more.
  2. You are a ripe age for cataracts, just like me, get thee to The Rutnin.
  3. There are only so many possible solutions, each of them will have been modelled by Treasury and by economists everywhere. It would be foolish to think that whilst Labour may appear electable presently, that they can come up with any new combination of fiscal measures that will suddenly cure all ills....they don't have a good track record in this area, to say the least. The euphoria of seeing the Conservatives deposed will mask many problems. Their first budget or set of fiscal measures will help relieve the burden on the poorest and no doubt thrash the richest. But fiscal drag being what it is, will take some time to unmask the results, that's about the time that everyone starts to wonder if they actually voted the right way....a bit like Brexit I suppose.
  4. Relative to the actual topic....... I see China is getting ready to defend the Yuan by selling USD on a large scale, that should be interesting to watch and see what happens to the Dollar Index.
  5. We know we can't get a bank transfer on a weekend but you expect you can transfer using WISE, except when you can't, like now! This is about predictability and certainty. And as I said twice in this thread already, I don't care if others can do the transfer a few baht cheaper, that's not important to me, even if my transfer is for 6 mill. to pay for my condo. What I really don't understand about this topic is the passion with which people think others must use XY or Z and if you don't, you must be an idiot. It's like if you don't drive a Toyota you must be retarded. Everyone has different needs and priorities plus others have brand loyalty, get over it.
  6. It may strike you as odd but I don't have model numbers of air con units in Thailand that have heating capabilities to hand, I have lots of other trivia but not that ! But since poster Thailandryan posted above a part of his Mitsu. air con unit that does provide heat, perhaps he will help you avoid having to waste your time googling! Hint: Electrolux and Mits seem to be the leaders in this field.
  7. Yes, the Southern provinces are much more wealthy than the rest, Issan and Northern provinces compete for the poorest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Thai_provinces_by_GPP
  8. Most people have never thought to ask, but if they do, they are there. Next time you're in HomePro, ask a sales person. And they are not that expensive.
  9. Air con units that also provide heat are very common these days.
  10. Send Pounds and get the TT rate on this end, negotiated with the banks Treasury if the amount is large enough.
  11. As I said previously, I don't care if others make a few baht more, my priority is security and reliability. I don't want the transfer company telling me they can't transfer funds because it's the weekend; or telling me I have to send more than or less than X; or use bank XY or Z. I want to know if the wheel falls off, the international wire transfer/banking system, with all its checks and balances, is underpinning my transfer.
  12. That means you have Pounds sitting in a Thai bank account for 6 years, earning no interest and its value being eroded by inflation at the average rate of 3% per year....that is not a good deal.
  13. Khao Yai - scenery Kanchanaburi - scenery Phangna - scenery Petchabun - scenery
  14. HSBC was charging me 20 Pounds, twenty years ago, fortunately things have changed! "It's free to send money from HSBC to HSBC and to another bank if it's in euros and within the EEA22 view footnote 2. Otherwise, it's £5 for HSBC to any other bank if you send money online. This applies to recurring and future payments, too." https://www.hsbc.co.uk/international/money-transfer/#:~:text=transfer money internationally%3F-,Sending money outside the UK,recurring and future payments%2C too.
  15. Not for me personally, I'm always going to use SWIFT and the high street banks.
  16. I am not aware there is any limit in how much money can be transferred to Thailand, there is certainly not a Bank of Thailand limit and I doubt very much there's a Bank of England limit. I always send Pounds and I always use HSBC UK, it costs me 4 Pounds to make the transfer and they use SWIFT, there's no messing around with small money transfer companies who often have obscure rules or don't allow transfers because...! I don't care if others can get a few more satang by using another transfer method. If I'm transferring 5 mill. I want security, first and foremost.
  17. A couple of corrections to what you wrote: The BOE didn't print anything. They are going to (they haven't started yet and indeed may never do so) temporarily buy long dated gilts using their foreign currency reserves for the purchase, when the markets have settled those gilts will be sold again. It might just be that the threat that they are prepared to do so is enough to calm markets. Printing money doesn't mean that somebody fires up the printing presses and new pound notes spew forth! The term printing money is where the central bank, the BOE or the Fed., adds credit to member banks deposits thus expanding credit. That isn't happening at present.
  18. The three important headings for me in The Bangkok Insurance policy are: Medical expenses in case of an accident for an IPD patient - Maximum coverage per year according to the insurance policy - Maximum coverage per accident Maximum coverage per accident is 50,000 or 100,000, which is not very much at all.
  19. Sorry, yes, you are absolutely correct, I got so caught up in the nominee part that I forgot to focus on the important part. Using a company to buy a single house is illegal, if that is the sole purpose of the company. Many years ago some Brit friends got caught out on this point when the CM Land Office clamped down. They were given six months to make other arrangements, which I thought was very lenient. As things here become more and more joined up, and the LO gets sight of company returns etc, expect further crackdowns.
  20. The Thai nominees should not know each other or be related, then you are both legal and safe. Right now you are legal but that's all and you being MD doesn't mean anything..
  21. The problem with your explanation Chivas is two fold. The first is that you seem obsessed with constantly delivering the same message almost daily although why is unclear. The second is that you only present part of the picture, which I have observed you do from afar for over a year. Your answer is too simple, you make it a appear that the sum is a direct and precise calculation and that's all there is to it, it isn't. The FOREX is not a series of mathematical formulae that spit out precise figures for everyone to follow. As you appear to know but fail to explain, the FOREX establishes relative positions that are indicative of value, the interbank trade determines absolute values. Large dealers, banks and the Central Bank of each country agree the rate at of their particular currency at the morning fix each day, other countries currencies will adjust accordingly but also in line with their own morning fix, unless a hard currency peg is in place of course. The FOREX provides relative positioning, that's all, nothing more.
  22. GBP is too volatile right now and it's the weekend, I imagine WISE doesn't want anyone making Sterling transfers that may come back and bite them on Monday when markets open.
  23. Thanks Richard, that looks like it may work for me.
