  1. The official spelling (Royal Institute Dictionary) is ฤษี. Spelling #2 is a nonsense. Pronunciation, /rʉ́ˑsǐi/.
  2. Poor site with terrible transcription. There are much better options out there. In my opinion, won't be missed.
  3. Something to do with Covid not having gone away? Not wanting to get sick or die? Plus, I'm expecting to make a return trip to the UK where 6,307 people were admitted to hospital in England with Covid in the last week. Doubtless many, many times that number were sick with the disease. (England has a cavalier attitude to Covid. Hardly anyone wears a mask these days, taking the former bozo Prime Minister as their role model.) Source: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/
  4. I received the bivalent Pfizer vaccine in my local district government health clinic in Bangkok on Friday. They jab a maximum of 20 people per day on a first come, first served basis. It was free. (And though I'm feeling a little bit achy, I feel much, much better than I did after my last, Moderna, jab. which really knocked me for six.)
  5. I was skeptical when I read this, but The Independent confirms it: https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/manchester-tourist-tax-visitors-hotels-b2308640.html According to the article, Edinburgh appears to be next, with a charge double that of Manchester.
  6. Another month passes, and still not a peep from the Embassy. Does this forum have any purpose if the Embassy is unwilling or incapable of contributing?
  7. This would be, in my opinion, utterly folly. It's perfectly possible that the "somewhere other" version is designed to steal your money once you provide your login credentials. Stick with the official download site and version.
  8. A Wise GBP account could only be funded by a SWIFT transfer of GBP from Thailand. That would mean that the THB would have to be converted to GBP by a local bank. The exchange rate is not going to be good. And then there's the SWIFT fee.
  9. In other pub-related news, developers who illegally pulled down an historic pub have been ordered to rebuild it completely using materials from the rubble. It'll reportedly cost them £1.5 million to do so. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/mar/10/developers-who-destroyed-historic-lancashire-pub-punch-bowl-inn-hurst-green-ordered-to-rebuild-it
  10. I registered myself using the website. I chose the option "possessor" to describe myself. This was scrutinised when last I visited Chaeng Wattana, but was ultimately deemed by the boss to be OK.
  11. I suppose if you lived in Timbuktu then you wouldn't have heard of The Sun. However, in the UK in 1992 is was the UK's best selling newspaper, with an average circulation of 3,570,562 (and, of course, a readership of many times that). Contrast that figure with The Times at 386,258.
  12. She was a Page 3 girl for The Sun in the late 90s when The Sun was the best selling newspaper in the UK. Even non-Sun readers will have known over her at the time. Very much a household name.
  13. Last month TM30 was asked for when I requested a certificate at CW.
  14. I recommend the search function. This has been asked many times before, e.g.
  15. I don't know why mobile AIS works. It's not just a 3BB problem. I get the same issues using AIS, both with Chrome and with Brave, and the console log clearly shows 403s which mean "Forbidden".
  16. The problem here is that a lot of the page resource requests are returning HTTP/403 - Forbidden. This is almost certainly a result of geoblocking - they've decided that because you're in Thailand they won't load for you. The only way I know of getting around this is to use a proxy that will make you appear to be in the UK.
  17. That's not been my experience. They have been unpleasantly hard and starchy. Birds Eye here have never disappointed me - both those imported from New Zealand and those imported from Australia.
  18. Nope. The vast majority of owners and workers at Indian restaurants in the UK are Bangladeshi, mostly from Sylhet province.
  19. This is not strictly true. One can defer taking the pension and receive an enhanced rate. If one doesn't claim one's pension on reaching pension age it is automatically deferred and when it's eventually claimed it will be at a higher rate.
  20. It will be frozen at this year's rate. If you go back to the UK for a while it will be increased whilst you're there, but will revert to the previous rate if you return to Thailand.
  21. Not surprised that Brian is peeved. After all, Brenda took money (millions) that he would have inherited to deal with Air Miles Andy's indiscretions.
