I'm in the process now too. I got the tracking from DHL that I was delivered to the embassy. I'm assuming (hoping) that they have staff to look over the application at least superficially to detect any errors and if found that they would contact applicants early in the process. But I have no proof of that. Only reports by people who had that happen could say whether errors were detected early or late in the process. So best case, if package received, and no early contact, they have looked at it and found no errors. Years ago I did a renew at a Pattaya consular visit and there was a problem which I had time to fix right away and I think the officer did at least eyeball the entire application. So that's a hint that they would do the same thing when received by mail. (The problem was missing photocopy of current passport ID page.) Photos could possibly be a more subjective determination. Obviously they can easily measure the photo size and reject any obvious issues like if you're wearing a Bozo the clown costume. But the required specs for photos are very specific and I suppose it would be possible for an officer to miss something that might later be rejected by the state department.

Reports I've read indicate that when the embassy mails the new passport using the required Thai courier by Thai post from the embassy envelope that if the embassy emails that they are sending it that they don't include a tracking number. I could be wrong. Looklng for confirming or refuting reports on that detail here. The Thai post courier item costs 100 baht and you must purchase it yourself online and indicate on a required checklist that you have done that with the application package. Thai post sends that to the embassy You don't. It can't be purchased at physical post offices. The product is customized for the US embassy.

Thanks. However the renewal by mail in Thailand has a number of differences from renewal in the US. So really only information and reports about renewal by mail in Thailand are really relevant to this topic.
