Actually I've heard the connection recently discussed by U.S. political commentators, particularly traditional conservative republicans that understand the Trump is a Putin puppet, has a parade for himself like a tin pot dictator, doesn't follow the rule of law, doesn't uphold the constitution, has permanently damaged the American brand with former allies, is totally incompetent and knows nothing about economics or rational foreign policy, etc.

So many triggered maga cult members here that have nothing but personal insults. So predictable! Anyway, to discuss why I originally saw a connection between Maoist cultural revolution and the Maga Trump cult movement, in some ways matching what the CNN article says Chinese are thinking, but more of a smaller subset of that. So I am very fascinated hearing what the Chinese think. So ... This isn't about left vs. right. Authoritarian regimes from both have many things in common. Also CULT OF PERSONALITY regimes (both Trump, Mao, and many others in history) also have many things in common regardless of ideology (if any). Arguably Trumpism isn't really an ideology -- it's about following the leader in whatever he says (which can change 180 degrees in minutes). My main observations -- Both the Maoist cultural revolution and Trump maga cult greatly devalue the "elite" more specifically actually real expertise and relevant experience. Witness the most disgusting most unqualified cabinet picks in American history by Trump. Almost all totally unqualified in the area they're supposed to be experts in to an absurd degree. The only qualification needed? Sucking up big time to the leader. Total loyalty to the leader. Project 2025 and DOGE actions and plans to purge the government of actual experts in favor or loyalists with no qualifications. (As above.) As I said in the OP, nobody is saying they are exactly the same. Of course they're not. Trump is not sending doctors to work in the fields as the Mao big ball boys did. But I'm convinced the parallels between these two movements are really real and really there. History doesn't repeat itself but it often rhymes. Now I will put on my flak jacket for the barage of mindless insults from the maga cult members here, who are very loud, and who clearly are very much against free speech except if it's Trump worship speech.

I started commenting about this long ago. My feeling that there were similarities (obviously not exactly the same thing!) between the maga movement and Mao's cultural revolution. I did this long before I had ever heard of or read any political analyst or pundit make that indeed rather controversial connection. Of course every time I mentioned that here, maga types viciously insulted me personally as they always do when their dear cult leader is presented in any kind of negative way. Well, my oh my, it turns out in recent months I started to hear the same thing on other media from various commentators. And now this. Many people in CHINA of all places, and they would know, are most definitely and clearly seeing the connection. In China, some see the ghost of Mao as Trump upends America and the world | CNN Hong KongCNN — Ding Xueliang spent his early teenage years in China as a fervent believer and practitioner of Chairman Mao Zedong’s revolutionary ideals — but he never imagined those memories would one day be stirred by a sitting US president. In 1966, at just 13 years old, the son of poor farmers became one of Mao’s Red Guards. He joined millions of young people across China to participate in the Cultural Revolution, a decade-long upheaval set off by an aging Mao to reassert his absolute control over the ruling Communist Party – with the stated goal of preserving communist ideology. Nearly six decades later, Ding is a distinguished scholar of Chinese politics based in Hong Kong, with a PhD from Harvard and a career teaching about the catastrophic movement he embraced. But in recent months, he has begun to see uncanny echoes of Mao’s Cultural Revolution in an unexpected place: Donald Trump’s America.

Think of all the insiders that he leaked his cave to that made billions from this grift. The SEC will prosecute them? NO! The corrupt Trump castrated the SEC.

The Catholic church needs a Pope. So the real question is does the world need the Catholic church. I ain't touching that one with a ten mile pole but I love how maga fascists are so triggered by Chicago's Pope Leo.
