As said Jews are not ONE ethnic group. But include a few that are definitely Jewish ethnic groups. As far as genetics most Jews in those Jewish ethnic groups other than recent converts will have genetic ties to the Middle east, including Palestinian Arabs and Italians. Jews who are Jewish because they were born to a Jewish mother are automatically Jews whether they grow up to practice the religion, atheist, or not. The majority of Jews are identifiable as part of a few ethnic groups including Ashkenazim. Conversion is very much NOT encouraged. If there had been some kind of open process so late in the game (there could have been) it would have been a massive risk for the democrats to nominate a candidate in an environment of internal bitter division. Democrats were not willing to take that risk. The stakes are too high.

She was overwhelmingly chosen by elected (by primary votes) delegates to be the nominee in the historically difficult situation of a nominee exiting so late in the process. If you're saying that democratic (or republican) delegates are party activists, of course they are!
