Trump's Tariff Tax Folly Making American Food BLAND again
Jingthing replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
Yes the current prices before tariffs are already outrageous. I have no idea what your point is with this. Saying 18 dollars is completely meaningless unless you know the cost details for that particular business. Also the issue with imported spice tariffs is not only business viability, but quality level offered to the customers. Some dishes totally cut, others made more bland. -
Yes, the MODERN Forward is well known for it's affinity with liberal American Jews. The majority of American Jews consistently vote democratic. Described in this link as center-left which works for me as I love the Forward and I'm center left. The Forward - Bias and Credibility - Media Bias/Fact Check www.mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-forward/

That and porn as well. We're doomed but satisfied.

Girlfriend experience?

It really depends on the specific restaurant. One of my favorite nearby Thai restaurants has the exact same prices for eat in and Grab so with free delivery and 20 percent off delivery is cheaper.

Yeah I totally believe that in a work context. Compared to before AI, it seems like super human powers. But how are you using it outside the work context?

Another memory. Going out to buy my first Texas Instruments calculator. It was expensive! Lots of debate about whether students should be allowed to use them in class.

That's interesting. That makes me think that I actually used to use a typewriter and if I had some research to do I needed to drive to a library and look at microfiche files manually on a viewer. For a major paper, that might mean several drives to the library. I think at some point people just say I've had enough technological change. I've seen that happen to some older people with smart phones for sure. But not adapting they're hurting themselves. I remember teaching older people how to use America Online.

I'm not talking about looking at AI summaries on "google" type searches. I mean actually actively using it as tool to the point where it's making a difference in your life. Getting older, I was perhaps a tad slow getting into using a smart phone than a kid would be, but of course it's more or less a necessity of modern survival these days. But I'm feeling resistant to AI and it causes some anxiety like I'm falling behind. I won't need it for work as I'm not working. If I was I would have gotten into it already. But I feel a kind of bias against it. Like its better than us and going to make humans obsolete. I remember struggling to learn basic computer programming which was very hard for me and now realizing AI would "laugh" at that level. On the other hand I do realize it's inevitable and there are benefits to using it. Not looking for a guide on how to get started in AI. That's easily available. This topic is more about how people who have not embraced it yet (and maybe never will) are FEELING about such an obviously massively transformative technology.

Don't the Thais call them soi oysters?

As far as this Homophobia Festival, of course I support their free speech civil rights to have the event. But just pointing out what it really is if you haven't figured that out already. There will be no threats of violence and actual violence against it like there are so often with Gay Pride events both in the U.S. and abroad.

The apps do have a lot of competing pressures of course. Attracting drivers with enough pay to make such a rough job worth it. Attracting restaurants while forcing them to cut their margins to pay them. Attracting customers with good enough service, and attractive enough incentives to encourage frequent usage. It's definitely not an instant minting money concept. I do know in the US now paying for delivery is more of a luxury item than an everyday thing. In Thailand it's much more of everyday thing, with people of all classes using it frequently even for very small orders. I hope it can remain that way.
-
I guess most people are not super adventurous in their restaurant picks for delivery. But I'm always searching for the next novel delicious thing. Unfortunately, with the many hundreds of options, it really takes a long time to do thorough exploration. I wish they had better tools to speed that up. Maybe AI integration. Is there a way to do that now? I've been very slow to get into AI.

Trump's Tariff Tax Folly Making American Food BLAND again
Jingthing replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
Foreign tourists are already cancelling their trips to the US in droves. This is another reason for them to continue to do so. A world class international food scene diminished by a total moron in the white house. -
Are Trump's intentions positive, or is he just unhinged?
Jingthing replied to spidermike007's topic in Political Soapbox
I can't even process that anyone actually believes that Trump cares one tiny bit about the common man, Your post is full of silliness. The "reciprocal tariffs" aren't based on tariffs at all. They're based on total idiocy conflating trade imbalances with tariffs and the big lie that they are paid by foreign nationss and aren't actually a tax mostly on lower wealth Americans. Doge isn't about cutting waste. Its about concentrating corruption with Trump cronies. It's about smashing all the government agencies to pieces to facilitate total power takeover by an autocratic dictator. A key policy goal of Trump remains even more tax cuts for billionaires. -
That is shocking! But weirdly I stopped using them after they wouldn't accept my cards for payment. I also find their offerings inferior to Grab. I only use Line if it's a special place that isn't on another app. Yes of course Hungry Now was fantastic but they were clearly trying to buy market share and it didn't work. Is there any reason to check out Shopee? About Grab discounts simply join their premium "club" very inexpensively and get a 20 percent discount one per day up to 80 baht pretty much year round except for holidays and peak periods. Also discounts on all deliveries. The code for this is: EXPAT20 Sometimes you have to work a bit to learn the codes though but if you're in the club always try EXPAT20.

The article in question. Will magas read it? (ha ha). Most of the "debate" here has absolutely nothing to do with the content of the oped. Typical. www.forward.com/opinion/713686/dolchstosslegende-nazi-lie-adolf-hitler-donald-trump/ How Trump's grab for power evokes an infamous Nazi lie – The Forward From his failed Beer Hall putsch in Munich in 1923 to the Third Reich’s downfall 22 years later, Adolf Hitler spewed venom against what he called the “November Criminals” — Marxists and Jews who he claimed were responsible for Imperial Germany’s defeat in November 1918. Hitler’s assertion, based on a conspiracy theory concocted by Germany’s losing generals and conservative politicians, was ultimately embraced by much of the German populace. In German, this myth is called the Dolchstosslegende, or stabbed-in-the-back legend. Donald Trump has created an American version of the Dolchstosslegende, propagating a myth that the nation is being led to ruination by Joe Biden and the Democrats, prosecutors who go after Trump, judges who rule against him, non-MAGA news media, practitioners of “wokeism,” and elite universities, among others. Trump sometimes lumps together those who oppose him as Communists. Red baiting was good enough for Joe McCarthy, so why not for Donald Trump? All of this is utter nonsense, of course, but this American stabbed-in-the-back lie is at the core of Trump’s assaults on democracy.
