  1. That's a gross oversimplification of his position, His actual position is that he doesn't think it will impact most retired expats. Presumably because of pension DTAs. But he's very clear that it will impact many people but the only way to know if you're one of those people is to look at (or have a Thai lawyer/tax guy look at) the specific details of your specific situation to know for sure. I for one am one of those retired expats that he suggests probably won't be impacted. But turns out I will be impacted because of the specific nature of the type of income that I will be remitting. So nobody should use such oversimplified generalizations from anyone about whether they will or won't be required to enter the tax system here. That does not wash. You need to go deeper.
  2. So to you, are all Israelis guilty of those crimes or only the actual perps? Do you apply that standard to all nationalities of misbehaving foreigners in Thailand?
  3. Correction: Behavior by these ISRAELIS. Also, why shouldn't Thai law treat all the same, or does it get you hard to see Israelis (or as you say Jews) singled out?
  4. I actually agree with revoking the security clearance of Donald Trump. The man is unwell and on a permanent decline. In a matter of a few weeks he has declared war on three friendly countries, installed an unelected China adjacent weirdo to control all U.S. government payment systems defying the constitutional power of congress, and much much more. He should be allowed a peaceful imprisonment or retirement.
  5. Paul is the cutest innit.
  6. Rich of you to call OTHER people demented.
  7. So much negativity about Israelis here. There is a lot more to Israel and Israelis than horrible acting tourists.
  8. He loves the support of Christian evangelicals who need Israel to still exist to fulfill their apocalyptic prophesies which includes the damnation of all Jews. With "friends" like that, who needs enemies?
  9. Agreed. If you did want to leave to avoid being a tax resident during the large medical expense that would only sometimes be possible based on the timing. For example in the seventh month of a stay in Thailand you did the remittance, you would owe the next year regarless. Some might be tempted to just leave Thailand altogether. So then it would be down to ENFORCEMENT. Would/could Thailand go after such people after they've left if they have nothing left in Thailand? I don't know. But one thing they COULD eventually do is to require tax clearances to leave. In which case in the medical crisis example, the survivor if they couldn't pay could end up in Thai prison for not paying. Big fun!
  10. Maybe they were Russians. Lots of Israelis are.
  11. They're not going to be apologizing to you for breathing.
  12. Chinese and Russian patriots more like.
  13. Singapore isn't a retirement magnet. KL has great hospitals but a higher bar for retirement. Manila also has great hospitals. Vietnam no retirement visa. There are many other options other places as well. Europe, Latin America. etc. In some places you can actually enter into a decent national health care system (Colombia for example but bad for taxation). Panama for example no taxation on non Panama income or assets.
  14. TRD can see remittances and they might do some audits of foreigners with large and/or unusual remittance pattetns. They won't have the bandwidth to audit everone with remittances.
  15. Counting people's posts. Ignoring -- not so much, huh? Who counts people's posts?
  16. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about if you're American and you don't think that Musk has power over you. That said. I have no interest in wasting my time talking to intentionally uninformed people, so ADIOS AMIGO. Enjoy the ride.
  17. Most everyone else has no power. Musk has awesome power. Who elected him exactly?
  18. I guess you're one of the people that actually thinks Musk has the interests of the American people in mind.
  19. True which he is controlling now. You're forgetting that Trump is rapidly declining both physically and mentally. He likes to do signing ceremonies where he gets handed stuff from Project 2025 and doesn't even know what he's signing. He is both incapable and unwilling to do very much presidential work except for the showboating stuff such as insane press conferences where he wages war on our allies. Musk on the other hand is very willing and able with his tech boy groupies to do massive amounts of actual (EVIL) work. I think Musk has Trump by the mushroom.
  20. Oh great! So a foreigner remits 5 million baht to save his life in a Thai hospital and then needs to pay a very high tax rate if he does survive. Yes, lots of people either don't have insurance and/or can't get covered because of preexisting conditions. I think this might become a growing GOOD reason to leave Thailand because of taxation. This has occurred to me before but haven't heard anyone mention it yet. Expats without insurance for good or bad reasons, this is really something to think about.
  21. That joke wasn't even funny the first time.
  22. Here's where you're wrong. Musk has dirt on Trump. Like Epstein stuff. Musk is the richest person in the world. Trump doesn't have the power to rein in Musk.
  23. That's his intent and he's already made lots of progress. Can we STOP him? Do enough people even WANT to stop him? Dunno.
