Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)
WDSmart replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
So you fear posting your country, now I know I will get told off for asking, but it will probably help my point, and not yours.... Be brave, tell all, probably even up the playing field..................😉 I don't know what you're asking, but I will just state that many of the methods MY country (USA) used during WWI, WWII, and other conflicts were war crimes. We (USA) were not made to account for those because we won the war, and, as I'm sure you know and are now counting on, "To the victors, go the spoils." But, that is not justice, and those tactics will not work as well today in the case of Israel. -

I still believe this "war" started 80 years ago. The militant activities of Oct 7 and those that followed are just a continuation of that larger conflict. Hamas is responsible for killing around 1,200 Israelis on Dec 7. I agree. But Israel is now responsible for killing around 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza since then. Israel could have done a lot more. They could not have bombed indiscriminately as they did. And, where were the civilians to go anyway? Whenever they did try to relocate, the IDF would attack them. The "ghastly gullible" states worldwide are distancing themselves from Israel because of its actions in Gaza. The longer this conflict goes on, the more of them will do that. Israel will soon become precisely what it whines about it is now anyway, a pariah. -

Why do you (and others) always try to justify Israel's war crimes by citing other countries's war crimes? If it was despicable then, it's despicable now. -

I agree with your main point above. I'm not so sure that's true for all the world, but it certainly is true for the news source I mainly watch, which is CNN. -

I don't excuse Hamas for what they did on Oct 7, but the difference between you and me (one of the probably MANY differences) is that I also don't excuse Israel for how they responded to that by killing 30,000 (or so) Palestinians in Gaza. I was neither pro nor anti either party when I began posting about this on earlier forums. Now, because of people like you, that's changed. -

I wasn't aware of the starving Yemeni children. I don't know anything about their situation. Is there an AseanNow topic on that? Is that part of this topic now? -

I don't know anything about the specifics of all this, but I believe Israeli publications tend to support Israeli positions just as Arab publications tend to support Palestinian positions. That's the same everywhere, although there are always some publications from any country that always challenge the general narrative and even propose alternate explanations, some of which are just speculation. -

Wrong again. Israel declared war with Hamas due to the terrorist attack. Now your claim on 5e war, where is the link? I don't understand. I've posted links on both the continuing attempts to steal Palestinian land in the West Bank and a statement from Hamas as to why they carried out the Oct 7 attack. Just what is it that you want me to post a link on? -

No, that's a link showing the continuing stealing of Palestinian land in the West Bank, which is what I said in my previous post. It is representative of actions that are why the Oct 7 terrorist attack occurred. Here is a link telling why Hamas says it attacked Israel on Oct 7. "Hamas has said it was motivated to launch the attack essentially as the culmination of long-building anger over Israeli policy, including recent outbreaks of violence at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, but more generally over the treatment of Palestinians and the expansion of Israeli settlements." Why did Hamas attack Israel, and why now? - CBS News -

Can you provide a specific link to that blanket statement. The war started 7th Oct because Hamas carried out a terrorist massacre and took hostages. There is no justification for that. Here you go... Nothing to do with the underground war machine then..............😂 No, this "war" has everything to do with Hamas' "underground war machine." Which was, IMO, a result of Israel's continual stealing of Palestinian land. -

This "war" started because of Israel's continual stealing of Palestinian land. That has happened everywhere, including in the West Bank, and is, in fact, happening there RIGHT NOW! -
Uthai Thani homeowner gets 5,000 baht bill after meter upgrade
WDSmart replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
I had a similar but opposite problem with my electric meter. My normal electric bill was usually around THB 5,000. That's for two houses, a barn, and a pump on a well. I've paid a fee like that for years. About half a year ago, my electric bill suddenly dropped to only a few hundred THBs. I asked my Thai wife to notify the electric office when she paid the bill that the meter was not working properly. It took them about two months to come and install a new one. Now, for the past couple of months, my electric bill is only about THB 2,000. So I now wonder if the old meter was not working correctly and charging me too much, or if this new meter is not working correctly and charging me too little! I'm just going to go with this one and not question its accuracy with the electric office. -

I agree wholeheartedly with the first part of that statement, but that is far from the ending of anything. -

There wouldn't have been Oct 7 attacks if Israel had not been stealing Palestinian land for the past 80 years. I am not "facilitating" more of these attacks. I am explaining why they occurred and how they may continue in the future if they do not reach an agreement on a two-state solution. That's obvious to me and my 14 dogs. "Two more Israeli hostages have been murdered..." How many Palestinians have been murdered by the IDF? I am not SUPPORTING the people responsible for either of these killings. I am simply explaining why they occur and will continue to occur if a settlement is not reached. -

I agree with most of what you said above, but this dispute does have a lot to do with religion. The extreme right-wing, nationalistic Jews in Israel think ALL the land of Israel and Palestine belong to them because it was the "Promised Land" given to them by their "God." -

WDSmart replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
No, I do not want more Oct 7s, and I do not want more Oct 8 and onwards bombings and invasions. I advocate a two-state solution, which, I agree, neither side wants. That's what NEGOTIATIONS are all about. Any negotiation is better than terrorist and military actions. -
I agree with part of your post above, but have not thought it appropriate to share it on AseanNow up to now. However, since you brought it up with your "sacrifice of the hostages" remark above, I will. If talks continue to break down, Hamas could start making and posting videos of them torturing and even killing a hostage. They could say they will do this to a hostage every day until Israel agrees to a prisoner exchange, a permanent ceasefire, a complete troop withdrawal, and a UN-based peacekeeping force put in place. Then, they would release all the hostages. They supposedly have over 300 hostages, so this could go on for almost a year. This would cause the Israeli public to put a lot of pressure on the Israeli government to come to an agreement.

I agree with some of what you wrote above. My suggestion has always been a UN-enforced negotiation based on the 1948/1949 UN-suggested division of land between Israel and Palestine. Neither side would like that now, but I believe it's the only place to start. It would be ludicrous to start with the division as it is now.
