McDonald's suffers worst U.S. sales decline since 2020
Prubangboy replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
Another take: Ground beef (minced meat in the Britosphere) is such garbage that you probably shouldn't touch a burger below $15. Fast food burgers always smell a bit like sweat to me . And the French fries are dead useless. Even at the new price, it's unrealistic to expect much. I had the Burger King fake meat burger and it tasted better than meat one. On Tuesdays, Oskars on Soi 11 has a wagyu burger for 400 baht. With little dollops of deep-fried mash potatoes on the side. Once in a while, I will have the wagyu on the El Gaucho Steakhouse Tuesday special -great, but Oskar's is among the best meat and steaks I have eaten anywhere.. Yes, it's madness to be grinding up wagyu for hamburgers (assuming it's really wagyu). In New York, a burger that's mostly from short ribs is the gold standard. -
It's like the seatbelt rule: Why don't people buckle up in a taxi, like they would in a regular car? Because they irrationally feel safer in a taxi. And they're on vacation. Why do men engage with Thai women thinking they are somehow more altruistic and and untouched compared to the west? It's like the seatbelt rule. It's not rational. It feels easy (like being driven in a cab does), but it's no easier than back home. If I fly to meet a woman in a different state, how often is that going to work out? Seldom. Same here. Sparktrader: I've asked in the past for you to tell us your magic chat formula at the mall. You always run sputtering away. What DO you say to women that hypnotizes them at the Aunt Anne Pretzel stand so thoroughly? Do you really take regular vacations here, meet women at the mall who will travel around the country with you and give you sex, every single time, as you claim? What the ramp up time from Mall-pestering to nudity?

I was just googling. Liberals hate the rich much more, but are richer on average than most people. So very liberal (I am one).
-
Is this a good thing, a bad thing, or just a thing-thing? Where'd the white angle come from? Are you upset about being white? Why do you think that liberals are richer?

I've been here since January. No need for Tinder with the meetups etc. It's better to run into women a few times than to just meet them cold on coffee dates from internet. No romance yet, but I have a couple of women friends. Build a social network and let it marinate (or not). Thon Lor to Ploen Chit, there's multiple somethings to do every night of the week. I go out about every other night. And I do evening yoga a couple of times. If I were living in the west, I would not have anything like this level of social and educational opportunities. On the cheap, no less.

Bangkok also has stuff like classical music and museums and stuff. Once you get on all the mailing lists, there's too much stuff to do. I almost went to Symphonic ABBA. The Foreign Press Club has great talks too. I"m going to a talk by journalists about Myanmar tomorrow at the Brit Club. Later on, I'll see some royal court musicians. This really is the New York of SEA.

It's always good to be among the Japs. Wherever there's Nuru Massage, there's some good Izakaya's. Soi 33/1 -5 good moderate priced J-restaurants, including an eel only place. Next lease may be in Thonglor. There's a lower key J-neighborhood a couple of stops down that I''ll look at too.
-
I live on soi 33. Tons of meetups, yoga, The Siam Society, walking tours, and on and on. Nothing is more than 10 minutes in a cab away. I am spoiled for choice. I am spoiled for choice -dining options are among the best in the world.

Must-visit Buffets in Bangkok - Great Value - Great Food
Prubangboy replied to CharlieH's topic in Bangkok
Atrium is a long term winner. Their tempura shrimp is a must-do. Raddison up Suk Road a bit is more meat-centric. Best ham ever. The Marriot $150 blow out has you wallowing in wagyu and foi gras and 5* sushi. Rang Mahal Sunday Indian Buffet is still my #1. Other killer Indian Buffets on Sunday: Punjabi Grill, Charcoal, Indus. -

Still butt hurt over Y2K. Unbelieavable -at the level where he said he had a dentist girlfriend traveling around with him on the back of his bike. -

As soon as I saw the title, I was singing the song. -

I was there for NYE just this year. Still great. My first address in Bangkok was at the Chi de mansion at the bottom of Soi 11. I never saw so many great restaurants on one street in my life. And I am from Manhattan. I could have Peruvian sushi, good Jamaican food, or an Ethiopian vegan platter, all within three minutes of each other. I ate at above 11 bar at least twice a week. Charcoal, a true five star Indian restaurant is in the same building. Mark Wiens has a great video of them making the world‘s biggest Nan bread.

Uh huh At 72, i’m a little on the young side for that crowd.
-
Robin Hood pub. There’s three other pubs on the same street, but Robin Hood prints out the daily mail every day to read, and they have a great meet up every Sunday night at 7:30. Great 199 baht lunch specials, but the other three places are also offering super lunch deals too. Robin Hood pub is the first one on the corner of the block, so I go there instead of the others 95% of the time.

Hemingway’s on Soi 11. Definitely feels like a crossroads of travelers and locals. Superb Thai and western food menu. I can see why a lot of people go on dates there. Further down the soi, Above 11. An uncrowded rooftop bar with Peruvian sushi. Peruvian sushi is my favorite kind of sushi not expensive for what it is and the location.

I only remember him from the doors movie. The film was a mess, but he was a great Jim Morrison.

Me vs. The Lava Bowl: A Green Curry Awakening
Prubangboy replied to Lewie London's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Not too bad writing, but cut it like 60%. And lose the whole blimey bobs your uncle thing and just talk about the green curry and what it was like. For me, it’s always a red curry. It’s the simplest one and the hardest to make absolutely right. -
Why can’t you just answer this yourself? We have all enjoyed your travels of visiting every place in Issan on a motorcycle. I recall you doing the south too. Tou describe these places all in the same way: I went to the night market. They had a good band. Me and my girlfriend of the day ate meat on a stick. It was good. Why even go anywhere if it’s all the same to you? What was the best meat on a stick you ate out of your many meat on a stick adventures?

Mongolia. intrepid has two tours that lineup with each other. In the first one, you take the train from Beijing with lots of stops along the way for nature viewing. In the second one, wild Mongolia, it’s nine hours on the bus every other day with layovers in national parks. Not a lot in Mongolia, you’re there for the astonishing scenery. So not unlike Bhutan. Probably the most dramatic scenery I’ve ever been driven through, but the food is fairly boring and the culture not that interesting and very much out of reach due to being stuck on a tour. Only a completist like by myself needs to see both.

Propaganda Bar on Soi 33. free larb meatballs and Bangkok Pat does meetups there.

We enjoy every upside of this place with practically no downside -thanks to $$$. And they're perfectly fine with that. Nope, never going home. Counterpoint: Just spent 3 days in Sakanavet. Truly, Chiang Mai 30 years, plus on the Mekong. $100 a month old French houses. Solid pizza and French food options.
