Foreigners and their overseas income: what next?
parallelman replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There is a Thai proverb which amounts to the same thing โลภมากสวภหวย it has a couple of meanings sometimes pictured as a canine has a bone in its mouth but sees a magnified reflection (perhaps in a river) and tries to grab it thus losing the real bone in the process.😀 -

Thai doctor in Swiss expat case says she has ‘stress’
parallelman replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
On the other hand if she is a doctor (of medicine) then she should know what to do or at least who talk to. I admit that there should some reaction to the incident but to claim PTSD is a bit over the top. Don't like to think how she would something really disturbing. -
Yes, it does seem very difficult to accept that 'time' may not actually exist especially when there are numerous hypotheses and ideas about 'time travel'. I mean, although the Special and General Theories of Relativity tells us that 'time' is not a constant they don't actually deny its existence. However, there are researchers who say that the change that happens from one point to another is just that, a change from one situation/condition to the next. We give this a name, Interval, and we also add another property, a count. which we call time. So we have 'time interval'. An Artificial Emergent property. The idea of 60 seconds has its roots from thousands of years ago first written by the ancient Sumerians but since calendar agriculture was well established before then the root may go back much further. At daily level it suits us well. It gives us an order of things happening but when you go outside this 'daily box' either on the quantum level of the cosmological high velocity level, 'time' loses that neat definition we have for daily life.

No, that is Galilean thinking. In SR the the limit is 3x108 m/s and where both the time and space axis meet. However we are going off topic a bit. What meant originally is that while many things could affect the Earth's rotation and thus our clocks, it won't matter to other planets. So in that sense Earth's rotation does not govern 'time'. Indeed the rotation of the Earth was much faster in the past that it is now.

Why did Hollywood become so boring ?
parallelman replied to MrPancake's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Apart from Bollywood where Indian love and dance routine are the usual, the industry moved away from the so called 'heartthrob' actors, crime and mystery theatre types to action movies etc. where focus changed to the action rather than the actors. Having said that in ancient times entertainment was all about action and killing gladiators so I guess we have come full circle except then it was real and now it isn't.😀 -
Should have been called 'mouth watering' thread. Chip butties stuffed with grated cheese.

Two were shot in the back of the head? Only four shots heard...you can see where I'm going with this.... -
Basically when scientist say '...they don't understand...it usually means something has happened that doesn't fit their model(s). Happens often in Astronomy when they say '...should not exist...' If that something does exist then obviously their models must are missing some detail or are wrong. With climate change it's even worse because there isn't just one model there are several. But this is not surprising since the equations we have for turbulence etc. (Navia Stokes, Noether ) are difficult to solve.

Where we might find aliens in the next decade
parallelman replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Hmm, I don't think it is quite like that. Only a very small % of those reports I investigated were interesting and that most people knew very little about what was more than a short distance above their head. The planet Venus was one the most reported objects back then along with lenticular-like cloud formations. (As a side note, it does surprise me how many people automatically think that people who investigate such reports are 'believers' themselves. Yes there are some but even here there is an ulterior motive... like getting media attention...while most are knowledgeable about Astronomy and related topics. It is also a way to get to know about human nature and meet some interesting people...well it used to be.) -
Where we might find aliens in the next decade
parallelman replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I too was involved with UFO investigations a long time ago and specifically did a report on VI reports (including those I investigated personally.) They were the most interesting cases because they involved physical analysis. Some got classified by the military and analysis could not be done after that. But it was clear that some defied normal explanation. However, I think the general point here is that we are really discussing Aliens being discovered and the general public becomes aware that we are not alone in the universe. That point has not yet been reached so that for the present it remains a matter of 'belief'. -

Well, I do hope that there isn't someone reading your post that suffers from depression (joke). I like to think that we human beings are capable of surviving and proving ourselves worthy of note. There are some considerations to take into account...not all galaxies are the same. For example, there is a debate going on at present about Elliptical galaxies. On one side it is thought that Eg's are more stable, contain more stars and metals than Spiral galaxies like our own. Star production is slower in Eg's. However, more star production could mean a higher chance of Supernova bombarding any planets with radiation preventing life (as we known it) from forming. Galaxies with very AGN are more likely to douse the galaxy with high energy radiation again preventing life from starting. Like Solar Systems, do galaxies have a 'habitable zone'? We don't know. The current theory suggests that it won't really matter anyway and that DE will eventually pull the universe apart and some say there is evidence that our super cluster of galaxies are moving apart. Of course, one can then argue that there might be clusters of universes (not to mention other dimensions, Ha!) -
Help! Flickering for 2 years, running out of ideas!

Was the same at the place I rent except it was after some new wiring outside. In my case the tell tale sign was at windy times and at night when I noticed the line became a perch. Again similarly. it was a loose connection. -
Well, I didn't come to Thailand for the same reason as this guy (a long time ago) so difficult to say if I would do under today's conditions. But no matter where one goes it is just swapping one set of problems for another set and whether one can adapt. I wish him well but 'rose tinted glasses' usually fade...wonder if he driving around yet.

The ICE has probably reached its peak as far as technology goes. However, I feel that the EV will gradually evolve into something that will make the present EV something of a museum piece.

Steamy side of Internet in Thailand: Adult sites climb charts
parallelman replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Isn't the term 'adult content' a little ambiguous...I always thought that it had a range of meanings, from the bloodthirsty gory to nudity. I would distinguish between these and pornographic. Why didn't they just say porn websites if that's what they meant...it isn't against the law the say 'pornographic' ....or is it?
