  1. LB, forgot to add, when increasing the idle speed, you must allow a little more time after pushing the clutch pedal down before engaging a gear, perhaps count t o 5 then shift, this gives the input shaft time to stop and engage gear with no grating ect, thats from a standstill, moving , normal, change as you wish..

  2. Thanks Lannerbirth, its the the 1st time anyone has said this in 5 years on this forum,

Just to get a bit more tecnhical, rev counters are useually driven by the alternator, when the diode and brush boxes get a little worn they are not completely accurate, so by increasing the revs at tickover, you might or not be going against the manufactures rec specs for your vehicle,

At 7 years old a lot of things will be worn,

Its possible that your truck could have a leaking/dribbling injector at idle, causing an inherrent vibe through to the gearbox, but if it drives ok, and no black smoke under acceleration, dont worry,

    Cheers, Lickey..

  3. We have 2 salon girls who double up as housemaids when the salon is not busy, my b iggest gripe is they dont seem to see the things that need to be done, simple things like topping up the water tower, make sure there is cold water in fridge ect, Take the cobwebs of the walls THEN mop the floor, dusting the stairs starting at the bottom,,,Going to the market 4 times for pok Pok ingredients by motorsi, Then checking the fruit bowl, its empty, off to the market again,, 4.5 years now and gradually getting there, I do believe logic is lacking in Thailand,

Op, you will find one oneday, and it will take patience to get a good one..

    Cheers..

  4. Boyce, i seem to remeber that you posted before about skins ect, cant get in Issan? just go to your local village food market, ask the vendor where they get skins for sausage, we pay 300bht a kilo for salted intestine skin,

I really dont think there are different sized skins for size of sausage, as the meat mix is pushed in, you decide what size you want, as i mentioned before, cut the top off a water bottle, use that as a funnel for the mix, push it down the skin,

Yes, we live in Issan, and skins no problem..

    Cheers, Lickey.

  5. The OP says "she knows she will have to replace tyres and battery" why? well because they are already worn out or old, personally, i would think about the clutch plate stuck to the flywheel, and the handbrake, shoes stuck to the drum, rusted discs ect.,

I would change the fuel and filter, all fuel degenerates after a period, Same with engine oil, dont start it, drain it and flush engine with a cleaning oil, drain and put correct oil and filter in and on engine,

As for the interior [cab] hot cold, rain humidity, good lucxk with that.....

  6. No problems Bob, go for it, Our hillside farm 40rai, is ideal for collecting rainwater, dig a pond/lake at the bottom and put some fingerlings in, allsorts, see what grows ect, that was 4.5 years ago, when i read posts on here regarding fish farming and then go to the local market, choose a flapping fish, and the good lady clubs it, takes the head off and tail ect, fillets it perfectly for 80bht a kilo,[could be 3 fish, ] But good luck to you, hope it works,,

  7. Hi Dom, you old tasmanian devil!, good to see you posting again on your favorite subject,, I dunno mate, perhaps we gotta stand back and let new tecnologies take over??I think us old buggers will gradually accept new stuff, unlike a thai farmer who will not accept it because "weve always done it this way !"

Its a good disscusion, and as Dom says, economics do come into play if you want to make a living out of your "hobby" And of course, its got to be a backyard hobby, with security, otherwise, {Dom quoted in the past about empty ponds} your fish will grow wings overnight and be gone,,

    Happy New Year Dom,

    Cheers, Lickey..

  8. hi all,

excellent info and much a bit above my head. <need to get something like a modest amt of water up a hill to manually water rubber trees. <hill is about 25 meters vertical from small river and 300 meters max from the river. <have a kubota 7.5 hp <iron buffalo tractor as power source. now getting accurate info in uppernowheresville from a few shops is getting silly and gettig a spec sheet isnt possible here. would a centrifuge pump rated at 30mm, 2950rpm, 7.5hp, .5 sq meter per minute (all directly off the plate on the pump) do the job... about 3500 baht cost

    glennb6

    Welcome Glennb6,

I dont think a centrifuge pump would be any good for you, Thing is, a centrifuge pump usually has a head of water to start with, you know, pumping from below the water level, they can be primed to suck water, but the pipework must be very airtight, and even the pump shaft seals, I dont think you will be getting much of a pump for 3500bht to lift 25mtr,

I have a different set-up, but near the same as yours, Well, measurment wise anyway, Keep looking here, you,ll get some good advice soon,,

    Cheers, Lickey.

  9. Yes, Egiptian and malaysian, dual passport, he needs to go to the UK to renew his certificate of competence as a ships captain, and would like to take his thai wife for the two weeks, Thing is, where do they apply for a visa,? she is of course thai, and going to england, so would it be best to apply in BKK, or Kuala Lumpor? wife works in thailand fulltime,

Many thanks for help with this, Cheers, Lickey..

  10. Yes, i agree, fit a new flywheel, and while thats off, renew the crank seal, new plate, clutch cover, thrust brg and new turret shaft, when the turret shaft cover is off, replace the gbox oil seal, and dont forget the thrust brg arm, that might be worn, also the post it pivots on, and the cable, it might be frayed or stretched? if hydrualic you might want to replace the slave and master cylinder, and even the clutch pedal rubber, wopee, big money!!

Our truck has done 195.000k since new, hauling farm fruit, building stuff ect, no clutch problems atall,

It does seem strange to me that some poster/s here canot see that the cracks in the pics do not go anywhere near the top or bottom of the springs, which would suggest bad driving on the OPs part, as i said before, the cracks are in the "cover" and nothing to do with stress, it was the removal of the box that caused the cracks, any fool can see that there is no chafing marks or dust near the cracks!

And you doubt the courses ive been on? you really are a sad git,, just because somebody knows better than you, mr hands on....

  11. Mrs uses Tempura flour, always has for any kind of batter, its good advice to soak the fish in milk, perhaps with a little sea salt and olive oil?

I dont think its cooked too long, when the batter is a light brown, its ready, Any ideas about salt and oil in the milk soak?

    Thanks, Lickey..

  12. Mrs makes great Fish& chips, but sometimes the fish is dry, It cant get any fresher than pick-your-own at the local market, the lady kills the fish, trims and fillets it, and mrs cooks it within 2 hours after rubbing salt on it before applying the batter, deep oil cooked, and 70% of the time, fish is moist and tasty [freshwater fish]

Anybody got any ideas why it might be dry and tasteless sometimes?

    Thanks, Lickey..

  13. Yes, it is rather pointless, because you dont really have any idea do you!

The plate HAS to free from both surfaces before gear change can be made!

The spigot bearing hasnt collapsed otherwise a severe vibration would occur, and i did tell OP how to check bearing,if the bearing was "rusted" onto the input shaft this will cause difficult box removal, and severe indentations in the alloy hsgs ect by the use of crowbars.which must be cleaned off before re-assembly or the box will shake loose.

How much easier do you want me to explain this? even the OP said he left the workshop because of the frantic shaking, and that changing gear was perfect, except for a little noise, 2nd to 1st ..

Motor Fitter, Really? what should i do then? Re-take my Volvo engine transmission Cummins engine 4.8 to 19ltr engine Perkins/Rolls Royce engine, Eaton twin Splitter gbox with twin plate and trans brake fault finding, Allison Automatic boxes , Scania 2-speed axle courses? then would i be qualified to answer tech questions?

  14. Ok Mr Apprentice, <BR> If the clutch plate was that badly cracked and distorted, how come it changed gear perfecty well, and only made a small noise on a certain hill???????????<BR><BR>It showed no signs of heat or the plate breaking up, if it was possible to take the box out YOUR way, then it still would be stuck, it was hanging up in the spigot bearing..
