So since 2003 only 8 foreigners have thought it worthwhile enough to buy their own 1 Rai of sacred Thai soil. These clowns are totally clueless if they think keeping the 40 million investment clause is going to attract further hordes of foreigners wanting to buy their own patch on which to build a house.

One <deleted> rai so you can actually own the house and land you live in and have a little extra security during your stay in the Kingdom! I would love to see this xenophobic <deleted> reciprocated elsewhere in the world for Thais so they too can experience some of the astonishing discrimination faced by foreigners wanting to buy a few square metres of land.

Yeah, I'd forgotten what a bunch of benevolent philanthropists insurance companies are. -
First class insurance on old vehicle
edwinchester replied to CrossBones's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I just renewed my first class insurance this month on my 16 year old Triton. Initially they offered only 2nd class but after I said I'd be going elsewhere they agreed to continue my first class cover. -
Democrat Party hit with another major defection
edwinchester replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"......he has been courted by Ruam Thai Sang Chart, a new political party set up by supporters of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha." Why on Earth would a so called democrat have anything to do with a party that supports anyone who came to power by means of a coup? -

"The watches are Pattawat’s heritage, but they were not on the inheritance list because there were no important documents for them,” Gen. Prawit said. Yeah everybody knows that the world's most expensive luxury watches come with no authentication papers when they're sold.

Hospital reports spike in RSV cases among children
edwinchester replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
RSV ripped through my daughter's school a few weeks ago helped along by alot of parents still taking sick kids into class. High fever and lethargic for about 5 days and a really bad cough and chest infection for 3 weeks. For her it was worse than covid which she had last March and was over with in 3 days. -
That article, which I can read, is 6 months old, maybe there has been some improvement since. They told me they were HMPO. Definitely English, not French, the lady answering initially even had a scouse accent. The guy I was transferred to tried with the reference number supplied by VFS but when he realized I was in Thailand said it wouldn't be on his system so asked for my daughter's full name, I could hear him typing and that's when he found my daughter's details.
-
I used the passport advice line on the receipt from VFS. If you use True 006 will give you a reasonably cheap rate. About 50 bht for 10 minutes from memory. I first got through to their front desk after going for the option to speak with a service rep. The lady answering put me straight through to a rep after hearing how long I'd been waiting.
-
There was a post earlier suggesting to ring HMPO back in the UK. I did just that after 12 weeks and the guy who took the call said he'd do what he could to get it printed asap. It was back in Thailand within a week. Staff on the help desk are as helpful as they can be but we'll aware the current waiting times are absolutely shocking.

Video: Pick-up driver ends up in the klong after overtaking at speed
edwinchester replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Wasn't even going that fast approaching the lead vehicle but for some reason floored the accelerator as he passed and the rest is history. There's a word for this type of idiot and it begins with t and ends in wat. -
Our village had one a few years ago. Serial thief and scared alot of people when out of his head on yabaa. Then one day he disappeared and a policeman turned up at his mum's house and told her she'd never be seeing him again.

Just picked up daughter's passport from VFS yesterday. The office was very quiet and I was in and out in 5 minutes. The journey in from Kanchanaburi was plain sailing, easiest trip in a long time and I saw no signs of flooding in BKK but then I was on the expressway all the way from before Rangsit. Sukhumvit was remarkably quiet but then wifey was earning merit points in a temple the 3 previous days so according to her Buddha was smiling on us. VFS did a fine job but wish HMPO could get their act together, 2 days shy of 3 months for delivery of a renewal passport is very poor performance.

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
edwinchester replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Agreed. There's several cars about to be released that will have enough range for the vast majority of trips within Thailand or only one refuelling stop for longer journeys. Just about made up my mind to replace our pickup with an ev and an array of solar cells for the home charger.
