  1. Walen update: we are close to opening but the registration with the ministry of education is a real drag on the whole operation. We are waiting for months and it is apparently going to be registered early next month. We are not even allowed to have a lightbox till they register us.

Once we have registration we will be able to provide quality Thai and English lessons as well as first class ED visa assistance. We hope to become a popular school on the island and operate for many years to come.

Will it be any different to the "MIND YOUR LANGUAGE" school down on the Old Monkey road ?

Very funny Oldsailor. I see you are a very smart man.

Cant see what was funny about Oldsailors question, seems valid... i think another way to phrase the question would be, what extra services do you provide over MYL , and why should people chose your company over other Schools in Samui :?

  2. An horrific even occurred today in the uk when a mad man shot dead 2 police women after making a false burglary call ( he had previously killed a son and dad )

Now a main part of the story is the guy had 1 eye , now as part of the following reporting , which will seem non relevant to the uk press and public , but is printed , he claims he lost his eye in a fight with a policeman in Thailand ? ,

Any tv members regonised him ? , as a simple tourist wouldn't get in this mess , or expats would have heard about a ferang losing his eye from a fight fro the police

  3. i think you really need to get out more ! Crime is rife on samui in one way or another

What I would call institutional crime is rife but that's everywhere in LoS.

I think here to be a victim you are more likely to have a big problem of you make a problem but generally most of Samui is quite safe if u stay low key and flying fly slightly under the radar

even staying low key, what is there to stop you being hit/killed by a drunk driver / illegally speeding driver which happens everyday here on samui ... ( both are still crimes , and happen frequently on samui )

  4. Don't care what you say wink.png seen them at work.

Can't believe that, as a mod, you are supporting scammers on the island.

Water divining is a scam. James Randi offered has long offered a $1 million prize to anyone who can prove any paranormal ability, Water Divining included. The prize has been on offer for over 15 years without anybody successfully claiming it.

I'm sure your Thai water diviners would be interested in 30 million baht, why not encourage them to take the challenge?

It's a scam, and if you believe it, you're an idiot.

Thank you for calling me an idiot. You will find the rest of my communication via PM.

What happened to a good old public flogging rooo ...

However it is not possible to completely discard the subject of water divining. Some people seem to be able to locate buried pipes with the aid of rods or twigs. One theory for this is that the muscles in the body react to some electromagnetic effect caused by the presence of the metal or the water flowing through the pipe; the rods then amplify this effect so that the searcher becomes aware of them. Another theory is that some diviners know from their experience and local knowledge where groundwater is likely to be located and subconsciously cause the reaction.
  6. Bangkok Airways offers 5% discount airfare to Thai senior citizen and disabled for all Bangkok Airways’ domestic routes. This special offer is valid for traveling dates from 1 September 2012 to 30 April 2013.

so a whole 5% of the full fare price !. great incentive !, but how are they going to tell if you are disabled or note? .... how is this defined?

  7. This will NEVER apply to samui. It is a law less land unto its own. There has never been any law enforcement on samui, by the local toy police. Recently the taxis blockaded the port, due to a minivan company offering a package deal including drop off at the hotel. The taxis would be prevented from charging their extortionate fees. What happened? The weak mayor intervened, and sided with the taxi insects. The govt. in Bkk refuses to enforce ANYTHING in Samui. It is shameful. A travesty. The taxi mafia in Samui is far more powerful than the mayor, the police, the governor, or the PM. Period. End of story. They all have meters. They laugh at you when you ask them to use them. And they know there are zero reasons why they have to behave. A pox on the face of the impotent authorities who care more for the mafia, than for the tourism industry.

I choose to live in Lamai (foot of the hills behind the old market) and have been in the same place for over 3 years. There has been no crime (?) within the community I live (maybe 60 people of which 12 are farang). Nothing.... zero. When I go down to the local shop I leave the house open, not open as in unlocked but open in exactly the same way as it was before I left, door propped open etc. Only time ever see a policeman is if someone has died of old age (gotta get their mug in a picture). No doubt the local Mafia has a hand in all this which is perhaps good or bad but I'm a guest on Samui, I'm a guest in Thailand, who am I to change the way things are run. I feel safe, I'm obviously secure, live well, eat well, have many very good friends around and love it.

Cab prices are a joke but how many members actually use them? I suggest that most members have 'their' taxi so the charge is mates rates anyway. So it's only the rep. which is really affected with regard to tourism.

Be careful what you wish for fellow Samuin's. There are already way too many taxis around and most of them are parked up in town centers, the market is more than saturated yet the prices just about cover it. Even at existing levels, all those parked taxis driving around would make it even worse.

What are u going on about

R u telling me there is no gun crime no motorbikes stolen no hand bag snatches no fraud

Are u saying that the only crime is taxis over charging on lamui

People are less intimidated over here

Most violence had a link to the victim not all

There is nothing in the area where I live but I mean that in general there is a very low level of crime in the Lamai area and crime on Samui as a whole is fairly low.

i think you really need to get out more ! Crime is rife on samui in one way or another

  8. WITH tourism as the main engine of Koh Samui’s economy, the island’s main tourism governing body vowed to protect its image and environment to continue attracting international tourists in the years to come.

Tanongsak Wong, president of the Koh Samui Tourism Promotion Association, promised during their recent executive board meeting to promote the island’s positive image to international travelers.

  9. Koh Samui residents are asked to prepare for water shortage as the island experiences drought and face problems with electricity and basic utility infrastructure.

Mr. Winchan Ningnoi, manager of the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA), Koh Samui branch, said the amount of rainwater flowing into catchment areas in Samui forests is not enough because there has not been much rain.

  10. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he gets fined riding that bicycle back in the UK because he broke one of the too tall or the too flashy laws.

Well he won't be accustomed to today's uk chats hurling abuse at him !

    That's indeed a greater concern !

    Oops I ment chavs

  12. Just seen this on Facebook
