Kasikorn has lowered ATM withdrawals to 20,000 baht ???
I've got an Elite Visa, had one for more than a decade now - and the bank know about it - but I opened my account before I got the Elite visa on a 'learn Thai student visa' about 13 years ago or something, account remains normal for me at the moment, no messages received - I'll withdraw 50k when I pass an ATM while shopping over the next couple of days and see how that goes. If it doesn't work then for me it's 500k cash withdrawals at the branch each time I need to refill my 'draw'.

Kasikorn has lowered ATM withdrawals to 20,000 baht ???
Yeah, I always keep a nice pile of cash at home just in case and every time I use the ATM I tend to withdraw 50k - first 30k then right after that 20k and that's my usual usage pattern, I'm an old school guy - I use the bank for transfers from my foreign stash of 'old money' from a non resident year then just pay pretty much everything else in cash except flights and limos - normally I pay for them with the card. Don't forget you can always just pop down the branch and withdraw as much as you want and they won't ever question it I used the Kasikorn card to pay for a ~160,000 Baht flight with Thai Airways - no problem at all but that was like 7 or 8 weeks ago. Went through immediately - but when booking another much cheaper couple of flights with Bangkok airways (like 15k Baht) about a week later it was rejected - I always had issues with Bangkok airways and the Kasikorn card and sent the Mrs to pay it at 7/11 using a QR code - very strange. I had to do this a few times over the years so not sure what's up with Bangkok Air regarding this. I mean I used to book with them on a regular basis - they know this as they store my passport - very weird and inconsistent across airlines, etc.

Thaksin's Overseas Assets Pose Tax Collection Challenge
He won't want to remit that payment in a year when he's resident or they will tax the remittance as well - and I bet they make sure he can't leave just for this reason.

Medieval Poem Misled History About the Spread of the Black Death
While arguing with my history teacher about written sources long ago I did mention the possibility that they could be reading works of fiction and accepting them as fact and he kind of wrote it off as there's more than one corroborating source in general. I was not particularly convinced by his counter arguments but as a 14 year old what could I do - so I just ignored it and him.

Anyone investing in AI stocks ?
Yeah Burry closed Scion Capital - he's the one played by Bale in the movie 'The Big Short' - he said something about the markets not being properly valued. Same kind of thing he said last time around, he was right last time. This time he just gave up and quit. I heard there was a quite a boom before the 1930s 'great depression', apparently for everything to crash it must inflate far beyond it's worth - this has kind of been expected by many for a good few years now. As for an AI bubble - sure I bet there is but in the same way there was a 'dotcom bubble' at the end of the 90's - it's not going anywhere but the players will not all make it through.

Thailand Rejects Starlink's 100% Ownership Proposal
They must be able to spy on you 24/7 and block all requests they don't like or it's not allowed - Starlink bypasses their control and they're never going to allow that. So Thailand remains on a list of a very few controlling countries who restrict what is literally the future of internet communications. This is the opposite of what they should be doing and will eventually do anyway.

Opening a UK bank account based on a Thai address
Personally I would tell them nothing - I've lived mostly out of the UK since the 90s (not Thailand in the 90s) but I did go back for a few years before coming over to Thailand. I always kept a UK address and still do now on the bank account and I've been out here in Asia for more than 15 years now. So I would suggest this : Tell them nothing, ever.

Thai, Cambodian Troops Exchange Fire in Border Clash
If the warning shots are hitting civillians then maybe they should fire targeted shots. I heard the Cambodian army are using civilians as body armor but maybe that was just propaganda - then again - who in their right mind as a civilian would remain in an area of ongoing gunfire - normally you would take cover / jump in the car and drive off. I also wonder - who sneaks across the border - uniformed soldiers or could it be these 'civilians' who really would not normally be allowed in the area of conflict, makes me wonder who's doing the mine laying here.

Thailand Suspends Accord with Cambodia Over Border Landmines
I wondered how long it would last - not long. Didn't Trump make all sorts of concessions to help secure a lasting peace? I believe he did make some concessions related to import tariffs ? I guess that will now end.

The restaurants should just shut down until 5pm countrywide. I know this won't happen but if it did then it would force action should it not be forthcoming.

Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
Not as simple as that. If you didn't live in Thailand in 2024 than the profits you made are not taxable in Thailand. See this : Source - the Thai Revenue department themselves : https://www.rd.go.th/fileadmin/user_upload/lorkhor/newspr/2024/FOREIGNERS_PAY_TAX2024.pdf

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
I'm about to begin watching Pluribus which seemed to hit the net yesterday. It's got 9.1 on IMDB so far, early days but 2k votes!

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
Yes, there's also a sequel which was released in 2017 with little publicity so I wouldn't be surprised if hardly anyone knows it exists. I watched it a few years back. The sequels title : "The Man From Earth : Holocene"

The Corsair Warranty Debacle Continues.
Interesting, I do need to purchase a new PC at some point and I can't justify it right now as the motherboards have not advanced since the last time I bought a new one which was back in 2019 - to get 256 GM of RAM I would literally need to buy the exact same motherboard model if I want to use an Intel CPU - which I do. So I'm waiting with patience unless the damn thing breaks. But my old PC is pretty much 100% MSI, not sure on the power supply though. Could be Corsair, the RAM is Corsair. I'll need to check now as that sounds dangerous

Thailand to Tax All Online Shopping Imports Starting 2026
Exactly, this is why I only ever order internationally from Amazon US export sales. Because they handle everything and somehow either act directly or indirectly via a partner as the import agent on your behalf. You still pay tax on goods that require it - which is most things except computer hardware I believe but it's included in the quoted price so you just make the order, click checkout, pay and you're done. If there's some other supplier that ships directly to Thailand even through Amazon then you're on your own when it comes to the tax and if you don't have an import license as a registered import company then you're getting hit with a whole different tariff than when an agent handles it.

Banking rules get really silly now
I had to do a face scan on a crypto platform and it failed multiple times. I had my suspicions as to why - so I had a shave - then it worked on the first try. I was clean shaven when I did the original scan and in my passport photo - had gone 5 days without a shave when I tried the login about a week ago. I look very different and much older when unshaven.
