  1. Not really, I use Kraken in the US. Nothing Thai involved at all. I would however like to read this law which specifies that foreign purchased crypto assets are taxed using a cost basis of zero Baht instead of the actual cost.
  2. You're not allowed to do that any more 🤣
  3. I'm going to hazard a guess and suggest that it's something to do with the alcohol in the drinks How easy would it be to taint the entire tourist industry for someone or some group with a grudge?
  4. Right, just like Boris, Liz and Rishi 🙄
  5. When you paste something it brings fonts with it but you can get rid of them by clicking the 'Paste as plain text instead' thing that pops up at the bottom in the black line. This is on the website version - here's a sample screen shot - click the link at the end of the arrow :
  6. I've been here since before 2010, easily doable.
  7. So what? You don't need to mix with such people. Avoid the absolute dumps of places and you never see all the above.
  8. What they're speaking of here is not what you think it is - an 'Enrolled Agent' for the IRS does not work for the IRS. It's an approval rating for a tax accountant granted by the IRS and must be maintained with some ongoing training, etc. Similar to a CPA but with more focus on taxation issues then general accounts - that is my understanding. They are not employees of the IRS.
  9. Unless you want that stamp, some people like it to prove travel history in various contexts, including Thais.
  10. Hold on a minute - didn't they legalise this in some way for small quantities which they didn't appear to actually have on them. If you can carry around small quantities of this stuff then how can it be illegal to have consumed it?
  11. Well the initial policy was created by a memo back in the 1980s and then rescinded with another memo in 2023. I believe they attempted to go after someone going against the grain of the 1980s memo but failed in court - and that's what made it official. I'm still expecting someone to challenge this new memo / series of memos but that might take a very long time. You are completely correct though - they alter their interpretations of the laws by issuing memos here.
  12. What do you mean? Some of these devices were placed in the wrong locations, the others would have been burned and melted. There were fires.
  13. I've seen images of simple little devices found around raging forest fires which are designed to start them. They consist of 2 or 3 'twig' like branches of wood from trees stuck into the ground and have a magnifying glass held in place on them - they hold it in place perfectly to focus the sunlight when it comes the next day. These are found in many places where wildfires 'break out'. Some of them fail and they get found but I can not find the images on the internet anywhere these days - they have been 100% scrubbed from existence. Now I guess it's not a great idea to provide instructions to would be arsonists but this is the level they are operating at - for many many years.
  14. It's a little nuts, but then again - in this show so is the John Brown character.
  15. And that right there is why I spent only about 175 days in Thailand in 2024.
  16. Something similar happened back in late 2023 just weeks before it went into administration. Seems a little odd.
  17. Indeed, this guy went from a bit part actor to a major script writing machine including big hits like Sicario and it's sequel.
  18. Have you watched 'Deadwood' and 'The Good Lord Bird'. This one reminded me of Deadwood in a way. One thing about this American Primeval is that it is largely based on real events with fictional details added of course to pad it out. Things sure were brutal back then!
  19. There's a lot more to this than meets the eye. The BodyShop UK, the parent company that operates the international franchises went into administration back in February 2024. This entire company is in big trouble.
  20. Oh you missed soething alright, you're mixing up twp different deaths. What I iwant to know is - whas a Thai national responsible for this 'tragic accident' or whatever it was and why they are not being made to pay? Always the foreigner being made to pay large amounts of money - and this guy has already been diagnosed as having suffered a 'fatal' incident - so he's dead but on machines.
  21. See you again soon huh, so they're closing down but have plans to return. Foreign companies require Thai partners, I wonder who their Thai partner company is/was and if it operates as a franchise on a global level.
  22. Ah yes, there's a lot of this kind of thing going around lately. Know of a couple of cases myself. People dropping dead, brain bleeds, clots in the lungs, etc, etc. All young. The old, no idea but it's noticeable in the young.
  23. In truth I'm earning more than $80k a year anyway but it's not from a large company, in fact it's way more than $80k - more like $140-150k and that's on top of the lump sum that just sits there. I could earn more, perhaps a lot more by investing in various schemes but am not keen on investing in Thailand, how would that hit my ROI and I don't need a useless condo. However there are no companies involved in my finances, just personal finance and payments into various accounts around the world. They're all outside Thailand, I got a lump of cash which contributes to this 'earnings' via returns (non crypto at the moment) but it's not my only source of income. Right now I'm on the 20 year Elite visa extension membership since I upgraded last year so that's money spent and gone, and forgotten about - consider it a negligible cost at the time. I get real value from that for the flexible visa and am currently spending less than 180 days per year in Thailand. Getting an LTR could make things little easier - less travel each year but do I need it - I don't know - for now I'm good - but it's always worth having options so I will keep my eye on this as we move forward. Thanks for the input @oldcpu - offshore incorporation is something I've been looking into, I know it can be done but the whole offshore scene has changed a huge amount over the last decade or so, it's not what it was before.....
  24. Nah, the reason it's a 'maybe' depends on the number of days you spend in Thailand in the year you earned the money. If it's less than 179 days then I believe you will pay zero tax on that money when it's remitted - forever. Even if you move it into Thailand in a subsequent year when you are a resident. Consider it the same as savings from 2023 or before as that's how it's treated. There were some lingering questions about whether it also needs to be remitted during a non resident year - but I believe that's been cleared up - maybe - but that's a slightly different conversation. Selling the assets and remitting during the same non resident year is the cleanest, quickest and easiest way though. So if you act on the safe side and sell some house you own in another country, your primary residence which often attracts 0% tax in many countries. The main thing is you paid less or no tax than would be due in Thailand. Do this in say March 2025, send all the money you need to Thailand for whatever condo you want to purchase but make sure you do not spend more than 179 days in Thailand during the year you send it then you're not paying any tax on it, and you have the receipts.
