  1. There's definitely a measure of irony in this accident.
  2. Sure they could remit whatever they wanted while non resident or in fact forever after they earned the money in a previous year - while non resident. Is this attempting to close the 'can remit forever' part of this? I doubt it as it's savings from a non resident year - but it might be, who knows. Also they seem to have extended it to the year after non residency as well as the year of non residency. How about people who've been non resident for many years - are they going to tax them if they return? The whole thing as usual is as clear as mud. Whatever they do it's to raise additional revenue - not less.
  3. Yeah - which is nearly everybody who gets ill.
  4. I don't believe they are at all. They will find some excuse to delay it for years and then quietly drop it at some point in the future. If they don't then the issues they're attempting to address right now will look like a drop in the ocean compared to what will happen in a global taxation scenario.
  5. Which may never happen, lets remember - this comes from the same department which was talking about taxing everyones global income regardless of remittance or not. It's like some kind of random word machine, maybe they changed the mouth that's speaking over at the Revenue Department - but it's all horse<deleted> no matter what they say.
  6. I can't wait for the onslaught of youtube videos which will surely be heading our way about this new announcement. I know the article mentions Thais but there is a law that says every 'tax resident' must be treated equally so in that context I believe it's referring to Thai tax residents - not Thai citizens or PRs, etc.
  7. Yes, we're talking about the top 1% here - those with hundreds of millions of Baht, the people being targeted.
  8. That would not work, I don't think you realise the number of people who would leave the country in the year worldwide taxation is enacted. Many Thai people as well as foreigners would simply limit their stays to less than 180 days - it's easy to do, many have homes in various places throughout the world, taking two or even three trips a year is a simple thing to do when avoiding huge amounts of tax. Then there's the corporate route. Thailand does not have 'Controlled Foreign Corporations' rules which means they can transfer all their offshore wealth into some corporation which controls / owns any holdings and it then becomes untouchable, they can pay themselves dividends, etc from their own foreign business entity whenever they choose. This would likely be in a year when they're non resident in order to avoid any and all tax. This is how the 'more wealthy' individuals and families will do it if they can be bothered / motivated. The thing is - nothing like the threat of increased taxes motivates someone to get up and go speak to an accountant - and accountants despite the incredibly boring nature of their job at first glance are very creative people!
  9. The first signs of a roll-back, it's beginning to hit them where it hurts - in the remittances.
  10. What an absolute joke, this is pocket change to anyone from a country where people get paid multiples of the Thai minimum daily wage per hour all year around. This will do only one thing - put people off applying for tourist visas. Would I be a target if I have $50k or $100k spare cash in my bank account?
  11. Just to clear things up here, when they say 'safety' they are talking about censorship, narrative control and the ability to silence people. It's the same with AI - everyone running around asking "if it's safe / is it safe" - what they mean is can they control what it says. Nobody 'in charge', anywhere in the world wants people to be told something which contradicts government policy - this is why the EU rushed to implement a load of laws about AI - they were very proud of this 'achievement'. Since then the AI industry in Europe has been flushed down the toilet all thanks to Thierry Breton. Ironically he 'resigned' after saying a few thing that someone higher up the chain (Ursula von der Leyen) didn't like - and that's the end of him - but this rules still stand. Safety is not for the people - it's against them.
  12. Unless you're phone is real old it should recognise a QR code in the camera so long as you're in normal mode, not any kind of macro mode. Is it Android?
  13. I'm still staying non resident until at least 2029, maybe 2030 - depends on how I structure my income and holdings nearer to that time.
  14. You know, each of these banks makes up their own set of rules which they use to comply with whatever greater set of underlying laws exist. They all do it differently in their 'compliance' departments. Some 'require' it and others don't, depends on the circumstances. The problem here is likely with your foreign bank from where you're sending the money. Not all banks are the same, if you're in Thailand of course then it might not be so easy to open a new back 'back home' and if they're asking for a tax id it means you told them you moved to Thailand which could create other issues. If they haven't halted domestic transfers in your country then I suggest moving the money inside your country to a more friendly bank or transfer service and proceeding from there.
  15. Maybe, but it would have mentioned that in the article wouldn't it?
  16. How about they just do their job properly? No?
  17. You're doing something wrong then. Send USD directly to a the Thai bank, never send it as Baht - that will cost you a load. Also it's only really worth it for at least a few thousand dollars. The more you send the better. Suggest $3k per send and only do it in USD, if your bank in the US is charging insane fees for wires then change bank. The actual cost of doing a wire is just a few dollars and if you bank with a major bank there is generally no intermediary bank - it's direct from bank to bank, For example Chase to Kasikorn - not going to be a problem
  18. I use an international wire transfer (SWIFT), yes, it can take 2 to 3 days - but I've also had it arrive within 1 day
  19. It's called laziness, they should have just gone and arrested him if they wanted to arrest him. No need for cloak and dagger operations. He's now stamped out of the country as this arrest happened airside, they like to make maximum problems for anyone arrested in this way don't they. Did they stamp him back in or will he now be charged with additional immigration related issues?
  20. About 5 minutes ago, she's a Thai, as we're in Cambodia right now we're both foreigners, don't understand a word of it - neither of us 🤣
  21. Well he is an ex-president so he can do all the interviews he wants. He could also cause a lot of damage but that won't make any difference, he's out of the game now. Is he out for revenge, I wouldn't be too happy to be yanked from the job - even though he was clearly too old.
  22. I just order a few hundred dollars worth of these very few years - from amazon.com - I don't care about the cost : Each cartridge last me many weeks, I don't shave that often, once, sometimes twice a week. Buying a few years worth in a single hit (price wise) does the job for me. I keep a bunch of them in Thailand and Cambodia where I maintain residences.
