Thai man’s arm severed outside liquor store after smoking dispute
This is not the first time someone has had their arm cut off in a dispute in Thailand, I do recall this happening before but strangely when I went to the internet to look for the story it was no longer there.

Advice on best visa route
Yes, I bet they're eager. You know they're sales agents earning a big chunk of commission from the Elite package sales whereas they would make nothing or almost nothing on the other options - this is why Elite is 'best for you' according to them. I have an Elite visa and it's great but I got it when I was early 40's so there was no other option. You're both over 50, get a 'retirement' visa and don't bother with agents and if you're really interested in the Elite visa go direct to them.

That damned Microsoft Edge
I never use Edge, I removed the icon and then proceed to use Firefox and Chrome, depending on what I'm doing. The Edge files are still on my hard drive - but so what? Who cares? I never use it.

Cash Deposit Machine without Thai ID
I wonder if they match the name on the ID with the actual account or will they still allow random people to pay cash into your account - quite likely I would think. But they keep track of who it is!

Bitcoin forecast to break US$80,000 barrier by year-end due to market trends
Hong King 'in kind' Bitcoin ETF approvals are expected pretty soon. I believe they are targeted at the Chinese market and allow direct exposure via brokerage accounts. It has been notoriously hard to purchase Bitcoin in China at some times over the last few years, with this new development, if approved it will allow the Chinese to gamble their money on Bitcoin through their brokerage accounts. I heard the Chinese love that sort of thing.....

Remit vs. Credit card payment (under new tax rules)
It's about whether that money is 'assessable income' - not just remitted. Credit cards are borrowed money, so is an overdraft. Much remains unclear. For example if the credit card was paid off with money from before Jan 1, 2024 is it still considered income or earnings / assessable. This whole thing is a minefield, at least for the first few years. Does using a foreign credit card which is paid off using fully taxed 'old savings' and non assessable income convert it to earnings?

Looking for information on a respiratory infection currently circulating in Thailand.
Yes, I think me and the brother/sister all had it as well but that was a very long time ago back in the 1970s. I know it's something that is routinely vaccinated against these days. Also I know this whooping cough outbreak which seemed to begin last year has now gone global, it's everywhere. If you search the news there are many reports from all around the world and they're recent.

Looking for information on a respiratory infection currently circulating in Thailand.
There were lots of reports in various places around the world of what they call the 'hundred day cough' which is apparently nothing more than a nickname for an old infection commonly known as 'whooping cough' or pertussis. These reports started late last year but have really surged recently. It is bacterial in nature and it's going around right now. I would imagine that most of us are vaccinated against it already but who knows.

Chiang Mai Immigration Requiring Your Monthly Income?
Which is odd as you do that after the end of the current tax year, so nothing will have been declared for the current year, especially if it's this time of year.

Kiwi Brothers Slapped With 5 Charges For Assaulting Policeman
I knew one boxer whilst growing up, he trained all the time. He also loved to bully people, luckily not me though as I was a friend of his slightly younger brother. So this trained boxer who I knew, he was quite a good boxer as well, when he murdered his next door neighbour he was sentenced to life in prison which is where he both belongs and remains. The other one became a drug barongot caught and ended up in prison as well. Another one who my father knew ended up in prison for hiding a body. Trained and restrained right? 🤣 These are just the ones I know about personally and I don't follow boxing at all.

Thailand and Japan Collaborate to Address Visa Overstays
Yes, if they really wanted to go over the top they could just copy what Thailand do and hunt the overstayers like wild boar.

New e-Visa fees predicted to start tomorrow for all nationalities?
The new fees are so crazy that I wouldn't be surprised if there's some kind of 'mistake' here. I guess we will find out soon enough though! It would be massively unfair to charge tourists from NZ these huge fees when they stay the same around the rest of the world. If they apply the same fees to the rest of the world then they might just find that nobody gets a visa again, ever.

British and American men arrested for real estate violations
If you must buy something then leasing is the way to go but based on what I've read over the years the lease renewal is not guaranteed in any way. Also a lease contract which has a 'binding' obligation on the registered land owner to renew after each 30 year term is not legal which it is speculated nullifies the lease completely. A lease contract with clauses that are not allowed doesn't simply nullify the bad clauses - it nullifies the whole lease - is this true? Has it been tested yet? So there's a lot of people out there who think they're sitting pretty in their house on a lease that's quite possibly not acceptable should the owner decide they want it back. If I ever did a 30 year lease on a piece of land I would consider it a long term rent for 30 years max, I'll probably be dead by then anyway so it wouldn't matter as I have no aires and would likely pick up another house or two over the coming decades also on 30 year leases which stretch far beyond my time here. Now I would do this on my Mrs name and lease from her, we are not married which is important because you can't do contracts between husband and wife. Well you can easily do them - but they can easily be reversed based on what I've read on here as well. I figure if you spend 5% of your assets on a house then it's kind of disposable anyway but there's no need to let anyone know that.
