Thai PM adviser urges police to improve criminal record updating system
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I still find it unbelievable that you are deemed to have a 'criminal record' if you're charged with a crime - regardless of the outcome of the trial. There is a solution to this. The courts should be the only ones allowed to ever update a criminal record database based on judgements handed down by the judges. If someone is convicted then the record is added, if not then nothing should be done. Police records (notes and such) should be regarded as pretty much irrelevant. -
Construction tycoon jailed for poaching leaves prison

Lol, don't count on that, remember the mushroom pickers case - 30 years for that. -
So why is he in the immigration detention center? What does this have to do with immigration?

That's the only reason I clicked on this topic - but I wonder if that's a stock photo from before. -
Stranded British man seeks help as wife takes passport and sails away
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
The police may persuade her to return the passport, it's very inconvenient to lose a passport especially if he's got a bunch of active visas in there. If not then sure, have her arrested and get a new one or emergency travel document which of course requires a police report. I wonder if his wife is also from the UK and booked on the same flight back home? -

Interesting I guess. It would be more interesting if they broke it down by the most prevelant variant at the time of death. I know there was a mixture going around but I suspect that kind of date sepration would likely show that the Delta variant caused by far the most problems and the deaths dropped off a cliff since the 'new' Omicron variant emerged from nowhere even though it's most recent common ancestor was very old, it didn't evolve from Delta, there was no trace of Delta in it at all - quite odd.....

Indeed, and based on their level of language skills I think we might be able to establish if some of them are native Thais. -

I really wonder how good their Thai was, was it perfect? -
Of course not, they're not stupid. This gift thing is obviously related to money that's already been taxed inside the country. If you send 10 million to your girlfriend she will have to pay tax on it, the same as you would if you send it to your own bank account. Assuming the money is already untaxed elsewhere of course.

Flash Express denies allegations of staff exodus and warehouse crisis
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This kind of pressure is created by the huge online shopping behemoths like Shopee Suddenly there's a shift in business from one courier to another and they have double the business they had the week before - with the same number of staff. I've seen it here in Hua Hin, which is a smaller place and they do seem to be handling it at the moment However about a month ago franchises of J&T seemed to get at least partially ditched by Shopee, one of the alternatives is Flash. Growing a company too fast often ends badly. -
I think pretty much everyone see it this way. But if the rule changes on Jan 1, 2024 and of course nobody submits a tax return before Jan 1, 2024 then this rule would supposedly be in force before the tax return is due - just something to think about as we remember that it's all about how they interpret it. So when they say Jan 1, 2024 - could they be talking about the tax return due between Jan 1 and the end of March 2024?

This is for the UK from here but widely known : https://www.bdo.co.uk/en-gb/insights/tax/private-client/leaving-the-uk To summarise - if you don't go to the UK then you're automatically non resident if you spend less than 15 days per year there or 45 in a 3 year period. For me, I've spend about 1 week there in the last 15 years and that was about 10 years ago. You still have to pay tax on UK earnings though even as a non resident - for example - if you're renting some houses out, etc. Edit: I don't think this is a new thing since the UK left the EU but I'm not sure.

VAT will inevitably go up, which government does it is up for debate. They're in the debt building stage now though and it's all borrowed money.
