Hi, I also live in KPP, just outside of city. If you come into town head towards the government hospital and go past it then turn left at the traffic lights and there is a fairly large medical equipment shop. Lady speaks excellent English and I have seen oxygen cylinders inside her shop.

Who said anything about pay? but as your asking the country has hundreds of millions to waste on putting crowns on heads so a few quid to rescue a citizen should be a breeze And we also waste hundreds of millions on people trying to get into the uk illegally and another similar amount on overpayed lawyers trying their utmost to stop them being legally deported. But why should the embassy step in when people are often their own worst enemies.

Just to throw another spanner into the debate on is retirement extension easier, well not necessarily. When I first arrived here 17 years ago it was with my English wife. We were told she could piggyback off me and we did so for 11 years until her death. I needed. 2 piles of paperwork albeit for 2 different passports, copy of marriage certificate and embassy authentication plus 2 photos and we did get a home visit to check on us. . Was doing all of that any hassle. No. Now on a marriage extension with my Thai wife and so for me there is no extra paperwork. And still no hassle. Perhaps some of us are more organised than some others which also helps.

I’ve been taking various lung medicine inhalers for a number of years now. They all claim to give a precise metered dose of the contained medicine but on occasion I have my doubts. Sometimes I hardly detect any medicine was expelled when pressing the canister down and on others I sometimes detect considerably more than usual. So, just how accurate are these devices at expelling the correct amount of medicine. Likewise when the canister is nearing getting empty, are you still getting the correct amount of medicine, I currently take 2 different ones and one claims 120 doses with recommended 4 doses per day so easy to work out how much should be left as obviously designed to be for 1 month. The other claims 200 doses but taken as and when needed so unless one religiously marks it down on each use it becomes very difficult to gauge when it should be replaced. I simply give it a good shake close to my ear to see if it sounds empty. Any suggestions on being more accurate.

I was actually supporting you but perhaps I shouldn’t have bothered. If you read what I wrote I’m simply stating that in my opinion and experience getting a marriage extension is no more difficult than an O-A and I’ve no regrets on the decision of making the change. I’ll leave you to fight your own battles in future.

I spent at my own leisure 60-90 minutes of preparation and approx 2 reasonably easy hours at immigration, now simply waiting on the phone call to get the stamp entered into my passport. After 15 years of A-O I find that I simply need two copies of everything instead of just the one. Where is the hardship or difficulty in that.

My office KPP, tells me I don’t even have to go in person to get stamp in passport and my wife can simply take my passport in to have the stamp entered.

A couple of years ago, a restaurant we used to go to on a regular basis gave us an envelope when we sat down. Inside was 300 baht, apparently on our previous visit they had overcharged us by that amount and put the money aside for us to repay on our next visit. Unfortunately they didn’t survive Covid or we’d still be their best customers.

I’m fully aware of the whole procedure, I have prepared everything myself doing all the copying of everything including the kitchen sink a few days beforehand, my wife has no input into this whatsoever. She gets the Kor Ror 2 simply because it’s easier for her than me. We go to the bank together she only interacts if language problem. We get to immigration and they prefer to speak to her as others have also stated. If I’m asked anything I reply. Simple which seems to be what you are. Everyone to their own re pictures. Our neighbour took two photos of us outside of house (thanks to KhunLA for some help with one but problem rectified with new numbers) and 2 photos inside house. Put on computer and then printed out, less than 10 minutes taken up with it all. Immigration officer just glanced at them and put her stamp on the pages. All very easy.

Dr. Jack, we had a home visit first time which was no problem whatsoever to us and there was no mention yesterday that we would be getting another this time. But yes we could still get a phone call to expect one. As for some saying they feel they lose control of the situation, I’m perfectly happy as one other said it’s a joint operation between husband and wife. My wife happily and in a friendly manner chats away with all the immi officers while we sit there, I rarely get spoken to, my wife handles everything with them and it all flows very smoothly. Perhaps that’s part of the secret as we have all seen some bad examples of expats who think they no it all and argue away with the immi officers.

Having done 15 years extensions based on O-A and just yesterday doing my 2nd extension based on marriage, firstly I agree with Dr Jack I primarily changed to avoid the worthless insurance requirement but also having 800,000 tied up for those 15 years. So, yesterday in KPP, I had spent an hour or so over the past few days doing all my copying at home, I’m perfectly happy to do that and cannot understand why others have a problem with it. I downloaded a Google map plus drew a very bad copy of it, Wife went off to get the Kor Ror 2 then off to the bank and 30 minutes later we are at immi. Seen straight away by the boss who scrutinised everything but took issue with house book not having her name in it (she is registered in another province). So off to the local office who deal with such things and 40 minutes later we’re back at immi. Boss having her lunch so another officer chatted away with my wife while pretending to be doing something. Boss comes back, she’s now very happy with everything, but looks at my pitiful map and draws meticulously a new one, makes am unmarked copy of it and tells me to use that in future (top marks to her), she then makes a special stamp on the Kor Ror 2 and tells me we don’t have to renew it in future but just use this one ( more top marks to her). Finally I sign this mountain of papers, pending stamp placed in passport and off home. Total time at immi around 2 hours, I had nothing better to do and not an unpleasant time at all. I’m perfectly happy to continue doing my extensions based on marriage.

A couple of years ago I discovered I’d lost the number plate from the front of my car. I was in a province far from home and on enquiry I was told I had to report the loss to the police in my home province to get a letter to take to the local motor authority whatever they call themselves. A simple form was filled in, a small charge that I can’t remember and told to come back in precisely 30 days to collect new one.

I have given my Thai wife a letter detailing who to contact both here and back in the uk. Where everything is and what else she needs to do. She wasn’t happy to talk about it but was quite happy to accept the letter laying out what she needs to do.

My British wife died here in hospital nearly 5 years ago. I am not aware of any police autopsy being done at all, but it could have happened without my knowledge.

My office want’s everything in portrait mode and they have their own stamp which they place at the bottom of the page which has a few lines in Thai and one where I have to place my signature. Going by memory last year I signed around 50 pages as it’s 2 copies of everything. They don’t want this stamp to cover any contents of the page you’re presenting. If you get it all right they’re quite happy but it all has to be done their way. Last year I gave them a Google map printout, they got one of their officers to copy it by hand and handed me back my Google printed one.

I know you mean well woof999 but nobody has any trouble find us at all. The issue is that the number is very difficult to see on the printed photo.

Just started on getting organised for extension based on marriage. We are now in a different house from the last time, all reported with TM30 etc and no problems with that. Had the photos taken this morning, 2 inside the house and 2 outside, 1 showing us in front of our house number. However, the problem is the style and colour of numbers on our postbox while perfectly legible from the street hardly show up on the photo and even squinting really hard are barely legible in the printed photo - will this be a problem or will immi officer tell us to get better numbers for our house and reject the photo. Another bit of info needed, i cannot remember how much blank space to leave at the bottom of page for them to place their stamp, I've left 5 cm but cannot remember if that is enough. I still have nearly 2 weeks before i can even put my application in so plenty of time to rectify things if needed too.

I’ve just checked my settings on my iPhone and roaming is switched off. I can make and receive phone calls around Thailand and the UK. I can receive and send SMS and messages likewise. Along with using Facebook and Line and FaceTime both here and abroad for messages and chats.

I find that Facebook posters give out considerably more bad and wrong info than this forum does.
