  1. Why are so many people desperate to have the laws in their own country decided by foreigners based in another country and the public have no say in them whatsoever except to obey.
  2. Here in Kamphaeng Phet we have a lovely almost clear blue sky with some white fluffy clouds in the distance. Whilst nice to have a dry day for a change I do wish that they could be more accurate with their forecasts.
  3. I’m as British as it can be and I prefer the old imperial measurements. If anyone asks me how tall I am I tell them in feet and inches and tell them to convert it themselves, I much prefer Fahrenheit to centigrade for temperature and I’m so many stones and pounds not rediculous kilos. But yes I can easily work in metric because it was forced upon us and having had a proper education can use both.
  4. When my British wife died here albeit a few years ago now, the hospital issued me with a document that I along with a Thai friend to help me to the district office where I was then given the official death certificate in the Thai language. As I needed an English translation I then took that document for translation. It was all very easy but I did have the help mainly for language problems of a Thai friend and I believe the cost was absolute minimal.
  5. Scubascuba3, they must be well aware I’m here as they phone me on my Thai phone number plus send the occasional sms security message again to my Thai number. I don’t have a uk number that I could use or have someone to reply to a sms security messag if I did. When I transfer with online banking to wise they probably detect my instruction is coming from a Thai phone so I don’t think telling them or not makes any difference.
  6. Ok everybody and thanks for the replies, if I get the bad news then seems I can get my pensions direct to my Bangkok Bank or via Wise. I’d prefer Wise as I can then control when it comes into Thailand but is it the easiest route to set up from here and like on the very odd occasion I have to pay a uk bill can I do that from my Bangkok Bank account or does that become easier with my money deposited at Wise. Many years of trouble free banking and now well into my 70’s, and not in the best of health I get some aggro, hopefully most of my marbles are still in good order to get it all sorted.
  7. But Transam is it the same for private pensions as well plus I’d rather be in control of when my money comes in as don’t always need it every 4 weeks. But if it does simplify everything then as a last resort I’ll go down that route.
  8. Yes, I know yet another posting on this subject. Around 9 months ago Santander contacted me about where I live and I gave them satisfactory info on paying uk tax and pensions and a UK address and I thought all done and dusted. The other day they contacted me once again on the same subject ( strangely just after doing a wise transfer which I do monthly anyway). I again have supplied the info they asked for and now wait on their decision. Anticipating bad news I’m looking at all my alternatives to where to get my UK and 2 private pensions paid into and having a Wise transfer account but don’t know if I can have them paid into it. I searched the forums but one says you can another says you can’t and so it goes on. So, if you can and currently do can you please guide me through how to do it. I’ve just been onto the wise website but cannot see how as it seems I have to open a business account. Any alternative banks that I can contact from here that would prove easy to open an account with as again I read conflicting answers on that subject. It also goes to show that the banks back home are monitoring all our activity and winning one day doesn’t mean they’re forgetting you as I can now testify. And before someone suggests that I must be doing something dodgy I simply transfer around £1500 every 4-5 weeks and have done so for many years. Many thanks in advance for any help offered.
  9. How many times have we heard all this before, I’ve lost count.
  10. I would also like to have apple CarPlay on my Toyota chr media system rather than the Toyota system. I know the Toyota Cross now has it and kannikap Bluetooth connected with my iPhone doesn’t give me it so would also be interested if a dongle might work. But please SHOUT out if you know how.
  11. Thanks Bert but gave up with the Apple one some time ago although still on my iPhone. But just checked on steps taken so far today including Apple and now have 3 completely different readouts of 620, 898 and apple at 828. My question was though how can we find out which is the more accurate one.
  12. Tried to put this under computers but wouldn’t let me enter it there. It’s just simple curiosity but I like to know how many steps, how far I’ve walked etc rather than seriously keeping fit. I have tried other apps but currently have 2 on my iPhone and at the end of the day there is anything up to 800 steps taken of difference between the 2 which really is ridiculous. So which one is the accurate one would you think , one being Google fit and the other Pedometerapp. How can one test the accuracy of either of them or indeed any other's?
  13. As the heading indicates, my wife isn’t in the best of moods this morning after hearing of the fully expected election results yesterday. She flicking from channel to channel to see if the news is any better on another one, and any comment from me even in support of her results in a short sharp reply.
  14. The pound has gained 6 points against the Baht.... 39 to the £ at the end of June. Now 45 to the £ as of this morning. On 29th June I got 45.02 so where you got your facts from heaven knows. More posts without any checks on what you post seems common these days.
  15. I’m in my mid 70’s and can probably count the times I’ve cooked for myself on 2 hands. I am capable but have a no interest in cooking whatsoever. My wives have always done me proud with their culinary efforts and my Thai wife is perfectly happy to cook falang food for me at the same time as she cooks her own. It’s nothing to do with being lazy it’s simply no desire or interest in doing so.
  16. Last week my wife’s 25 year old daughter came to stay with us, the main purpose was to get her car driving licence. To the best of my knowledge I doubt if the daughter has had more than 10 hours car driving experience. On the Monday off to the transport office to book a test but found fully booked for the next 2 months, we have 2 driving schools in town so off to the nearest, fully booked for the next month. Off to the other one and got booked in for lessons on the following Thursday and Saturday. Thursday morning she leaves the house at 8 but come home at 11, goes back at 1 and comes back at 4. I didn’t dare ask what sort of training she had had. Saturday is a repeat of Thursday but this time she has a document to take to the transport office to get her licence which off she went on the Monday to get and came out 20 minutes later with her 2 year car driving licence. Small wonder we read such regular tales as this posting.
  17. A while ago I posted about anyone’s feelings as a first time wheelchair user and received some encouraging replies. So a couple of weeks ago decided that there are times that going to or seeing something might be entirely dependent on having a wheelchair or not so off to our local medical supply shop and tried a few models and parted with some money. This weekend in town we have the annual dragon boat races which if anything like last year was well worth watching but on getting down to the river this morning there was no way I was going to make it walking from the nearest available parking spot to where the action is so out came the wheelchair for its first bit of action. The paved area has a quite rippled affect but my wife managed it easy and happy doing so but as we got near to where the action is the roadside was full of the usual food and everything under the sun stalls and some had spilled out onto the pavement area. Now I have to say that as being pushed along no one gave me a second glance which really encouraged me and on the odd occasion that someone was in our way they readily moved aside for us to which I smiled and thanked them. Then we reached the first of the sellers with their wares or services spread across the pavement. She glared at how dare we use the pavement and only reluctantly moved some of her rubbish to leave the minimal of room to get past and had my wife not got it perfectly lined up I would would be rolling down a steep bank and into the river. So onto the next group with exactly the same attitude to us, as far as they were concerned it was the end of the road for us, no help offered in the slightest. My wife wheeled me up to the very age of of the sellers layout and I rather than start some sort of scene told my wife I could walk past these few obstinate persons but to lay it on with a trowel. So purposely now on her covered patch I struggled out of the chair and accidentally on purpose trod on a few of her items, my wife simply folded the chair and wheeled it past these so helpful persons and continued on our way. My conclusions on all this is that everyday folk were as helpful as needed to be and very happy with the attitudes shown. These sellers and I like to think that they are in a small minority were complete and utter ar**holes and couldn’t care less about any one and my Thai wife agrees with me and was embarrassed by their attitude to us. As a side issue, do I have any rights on this, could I have insisted that they move their wares out of my way, would calling the police been of any value even if only to make a point. And yes I enjoyed a few hours watching the racing and I enjoyed the same pleasures from these sellers on my return journey plus treading on a different ladies wares.
  18. I’m all for trading with, cooperating with etc etc the EU but most certainly not being ruled by them. Standardisation with many things but not have a bunch of foreigners telling us what we can and cannot do, what we have to buy or cannot as the case might be in our own country.
  19. I did it for 11 years until my wife sadly passed away. One thing you will need not mentioned is a confirmation that your British marriage licence is genuine, the British embassy used to do it issuing a letter confirming it so but I believe they no longer do it. I have no idea where you would get that done now.
  20. The point of this anecdote is that neither woman were political beasts a few years ago, now my wife has political talk shows going on her device all day long. My wife is exactly the same, never seen her so excited about politics.
  21. Dante99, the tile is no longer loose but we can still hear a slight hollow sound from it if we tap it. Decided to leave it a week or three and see if it comes loose again as it’s frequently walked across, if it does become loose again then it’ll have to be as uweb says and Tile and cement replaced.
  22. We moved into our new built house about 6 months ago and in the past few days a large tile in the centre of the room wobbled as we walked across it. Tapping it revealed a hollow sound underneath it. We called the builder and to his credit he had someone round to inspect it within a couple of hours and this morning a lady arrived to fix it. I was wondering how they were going to remove this one tile without damage to it and the surrounding ones but to my surprise she scraped out all the surrounding grout and started forcing what looked like a very liquid type of cement into the gaps and continued tapping until hollow sound disappeared. Is this a normal or acceptable and successful way to fix this type of problem. The lady did tell my wife that if not successful she would have to remove the tile.
  23. Been using Wise for a number of years and never a problem but I seem to be reading quite regularly that some are having problems with Wise. No intention of changing unless I do get a problem but is Deemoney as good/or bad, any experiences with both. Should add I have no reason/intention to transfer money out of Thailand so that aspect of Deemoney is of no interest to me.
  24. Bill’s symptoms are identical to mine which is advanced COPD. I take daily meds for the treatment of it but cannot get them locally so have to order them for delivery from a clinic I’m a member of. I am happy to tell him what I take if he has an interest in knowing.
  25. Good luck billdd. I have similar problems to you.
