  1. Ok I have an opportunity at a Dive Shop down south as an Instructor and possibly opening another dive shop and I want to get my own work permit and from what I understand I need to open a Thai Limited Partnership with a thai owning 51% of the company and me 49%

The i would capitalize the company for 2 Million Baht this would give me 2 work permits

then i would apply for my work permit with me employing myself.

    Is this correct so far

I would have the missus be the 51%

Next question I have seen fees to set this company up from 10,000 baht to 30,000 baht can someone direct me to the 10,000 baht option :) I'm all for saving 20,000 baht

    cheers

  2. FarangCravings - you sound like an absolute ball to go out with. How about the petrol stations in Chiang Mai? Is one a few satang cheaper than the other?

I actually dont drink Petrol mate and generally petrol is not so overpriced by up to 3 times as much at different petrol stations if one place they sold a litre for .36 baht and then another like krabi sold a litre for 105 baht a litre your dam_n right I would shop at the .36 baht place.

As for knowing the prices of everything all the pub crawls there is not one bar that i know of in CM that charges the ridiculous prices charged in Ao Nang tops 90 baht small chang at the titty bar

  3. Nice to see posts saying the police are doing there job.

Get tired of the ones that say they do nothing except take bribes. All tho that does happen. It also happens where you come from. But there the government suppresses it. LOL

They probably had a meeting and were told there commissions would be more if they issued more tickets remember they get a percentage of all fines collected so its in there interest to issue as many tickets as possible.

Ive never been stopped for no helmet cause I always wear one :D But did have a bad accident drink driving :( I would of prefered to get the no helmet ticket

  4. Bout time they clamped down on these Mahouts its cruelty to the elephant to be treated that way and I never feed them and encourage others not to do so so its good to see finally they are trying to put a stop to it.

i think targeting tourists is wrong though as they will and do find it exciting to see an elephant on the streets and dont realize just how cruel this practice is.

  5. IMHO The Chedi serves the best Indian in town.

I'm a curry fanatic and its the only place in Thailand that I have been to where the food is as good (if not better) than most Indian Reastaurants in the UK.

Not cheap though, around 600b pp plus service and tax...but then it IS The Chedi, its not just the meal its the service and ambience that you pay for as well, but I always have a great night out when we go there, and am happy to pay for it :)

Thats a helluva statement better than most indian restaurants in the UK and not really accurate now is it ? In Birmingham alone we have a 2 miles strip with more than 200 Curry Houses and I dont beleive you have eaten in all of them to make such a statement Bristol also has Hundred as do other big cities.

The Chedi may be nice but sitting in 4 star surroundings eating a curry then paying 600 baht just dont sound right

You might be right in saying its the closest to a UK curry but not saying better than most indian restaurants in the UK unless you have eaten in most of the restaurants in the UK and we both know you have not.

  6. Situated within the gay bar area of the Night Bazaar Chiang Mai, Thailand

Should have read EX gay bar area. The only thing left in that area are ghost. Bring back the burger threads.

Well, it is number 1 on Tripadvisor!! The five star comments are quite humorous - they seem almost..............

    http://www.tripadvis...Chiang_Mai.html

It's not easy getting to number 1 out of almost 200 - it takes a lot of effort (at the computer maybe)

and 98% are from posters with 1 contribution which was saying how great Charlies is WHAT A JOKE cant give any credability to those reccomendations as they are all contrived and obviously posted by fakers as they have NOT added any additional contributions to TA about there travels just that charlies is great

TA users are not that stupid to fall for that they know the only real reccomendations come from people who post regular on that board.

I guess when your desperate your desperate

  7. I guess that you must have a Thai spouse or partner---just as you must have the same if u open a school. One director must be Thai?

I would not open a business as a single farang with no prior exp. U r asking for probs.

I think that there is also a law that says that u must employ a number of local staff.

You need to check all of this stuff.

    P Eddy

If you are a foreigner you must employ 7 or 8 Thais to get a work permit. The business must be 51% Thai owned.

If you have a Thai wife no problem. You wife can be counted as 1 Thai. About another 6 Thais would be what you would require to Manage a 7-11 open 16 hours a day. If you can fulfill all these requirements I think it is a very good and profitable business.

From what I understand that is not exactly correct, if you open a thai limited partnership and ensure you have a thai 51% partner you then need to capitalize the company for 2 million (does not mean you have to have 2 mil in cash) you can then actually employ yourself in your company there is no requirement to employ x amount of locals.

You must ensure you trust your 51% thai partner

After re reading the entire thread my post refers to a small business or if you need to get a work permit and not for a 7-11

  8. Living 30k outside of town is your main problem another is finding some mates, I live 15k outside and its a 15 minute ride into town when I feel like a drink or when its pool night another thing as has been mentioned get some hobbys, I think everywhere you get bored from time to time and I like another poster enjoy jumping on my bike and going on a bike ride for a few days and the North of Thailand cant be beat for that there is some stunning sights.

I think if you moved closer to town get some mates and some hobby i think you would be much happier and as far as nightlife while not Bangkok I can still party till 8am if I wanted to here in CM

  9. Why do Brits always feel Indian food has to be about them and them alone....?

Its about authentic Indian Cuisine, i could care less about Brit Indian taste.

Keep ya hair on mate no need to throw your toys out the pram

Its not that big of a deal theres lots of brits here and Indian food is a MAJOR influence in the UK however it is a twist on real indian cusine as you call it

  10. We have found the Royal India to be excellent but believe the fact that our Indian

friends here all highly recommended it is the ultimate endorsement. The lady waits on

tables is also a joy to be around as she sincerely seems to appreciate you being there, which is not always the case in many restaurants. :D

She must have been having a bad day the once we've been there then. She totally ignored two tables who walked in after us...even tutting under her breath when they sat down. Bizarre.

I actually thought the post was a joke cause if its the same skinny lady with glasses thats always there she never smiles and looks like its a big effort to attend any tables so yes I had the same experience as you with her ignoring and kind of an attitude.

The food is ok there just remember the nose plugs th

  11. That sounds like every decent Indian restaurant that I have ever been to. :D

Well I dont mind if they keep it in the kitchen :D but i dont want to sit is the mess I actually told the guy and said why dont he just put plastic tablecloths instead of cloth lets face it they are not marketing to high end clientele (and that is not insulting anyone before i get suspended again :whistling:)

  12. I've never been to the UK but I know some chef from the UK have to go to India to teach them how to make proper curry!. Anyway, I think Royal India and the one at the Chedi are just as good to what I had in India (I've tried the food in India from the Taj in Varanasri to small hotel in the remote area).

Rang Mahal in Bangkok is BETTER than what I had at the Taj in Varanasri.

I dont think you understand the british curry thing and really a guy from india would have to trained by a UK indian to make a proper curry adapted to the British taste which has evolved over the many years since the UK was invaded by indians Pakistanis and Bangladeshis they then adapted there currys and food to the british natives tastes and formed a completely unique menu of Currys distinctive to the UK

Hense the new national dish of the UK is now Indian Curry and curry is consumed more than fish and chips

I ate at Spicy Bollywood the other day for the first time and ordered a Vindaloo (in the uk thats reaal hot and one down from the hottest curry they make) i was then asked by the owner if I wanted it spicy ? Duhhhh of course I want it spicy its a Vindaloo however he politely educted me that Vindaloo does not mean spicy it just means curry with potaotes (we live and learn) so I asked for spicy but in reality it was not a vindaloo like from the UK which would of blew me head off instead it was nicely spicy but not as hot as I sometimes like.

  13. yes new delhi is much better, i had the chicken schwarma and a beer chang from kabob house and it tasted like rubbing alcohol, it was actually like it evaporated into my nasal passages - but at 50 baht it was good value except for the suspect smell that may not happen again, nevertheless im not willing to find out, when new delhi is only a stones throw away.

I think the price at New delhi is 35 Baht for 2 big samosas freshly cooked and real tasty

  14. Is there such a thing as a universal mobile phone charger/adapter?

Seems they all require different noninterchangeable types even within the same brand.

What if you lose the original?

Go to CENTRAL near Chiang Mai Ram and head to the top floor near where the kids playground is and there is a big tel accessories store there that sell every generic tel charger just take the tel and they will have one that will fit, runs about 150 baht and they will exchange it if it breaks they changed mine 2 times without a blink

  15. There are no good Indian restaurants in Chang Mai period.

When a business man in CMX imports a real Indian chef from (say) Bradford and opens a restaurant then that will be the one to frequent - not the present silly imitations.

There's an Indian chef at New Delhi, saw him....but the waiter is Burmese.

"There's an Indian chef at New Delhi" and that's the problem – as I said before you have to get a real Bangladeshi chef (from Bradford/Birmingham etc) and before anyone asks there are none in CM.

Also there is a small difference between a biryanni and a "sweet tasting muslim thai massaman curry with potatoes" if you understand Indian food

I understand completely Im from Birmingham and the Currys are the best specially a Balti which does not exist in real indian food they tell me it was made up for us Brits

I eat at New Dehli as its the closest I can get. Royal India was OK, but disgustingly filthy , just tried Spicy Bollywood which was fresh and tasty

I'm all up for an English Bangladeshi from Birmingham coming to set up an indian restaurant in Thailand which would really would be an English Bangladeshi Indian thai curry house

    I think

    PS

I miss Shami Kebabs the most

  16. well i was in ao nang yesterday beachfront bar singha small 80 bht yes there are a few bars in ao nang that are up around 120 bht but these are nightclub places just out off interest farang cravings how much are the beers in night clubby places in chang mai i bet about the same.........and you dont get a beautifull beach to look at.............................

and witold comment about krabi town being rundown i think you maybe just to used to the commercialised places off thailand

Well the biggest most busy nightclub which is Spicy club and Beers are 60 baht and 90 for jack coke place is open till 4.30am or so

The Van which is also open till 4am around the same price jack coke 100 not a club but late night drinking place

bubble nightclub is 100baht way more ritzy than Spicy but average I would say is 100 baht

The Bar I went to though is not a nightclub it was just a beach bar I would not complain if I was in a late night establishement or a go go bar oh by the way the Gogo bar in Chiang Mai is 90 baht for small beer

    The other popular Bars

Happy Hour BIG Chang 55 baht at Blue Sky Bar till 8pm then jumps to 80 baht

N1 Bar 80 Baht for big chang all night

Beer Bar areas anywhere from 60 baht to 90 baht

Jack Coke on average 90 baht

Imported beers are up there and very expensive 175 to 300 baht

  17. So strange. According to the Thai press, it's only foreigners that are paedophiles. What about the Thai only places that we farangs NEVER hear about? For sure someone had an axe to grind?

Last week a 90yr old in Chiang Mai, total age of the four kids he was "supposed" to have assaulted was 24yrs. The offence was TWO YEARS OLD! Fer Christ's sake!

I only hope the relevant embassies are at least offering more help to their citizens than the hang 'em high club here on Thaivisa, or the stalwart BIB.

You may disagree, your call. But ANYONE who is here long term can have a problem, you may not even REALISE you've upset someone!

As I mentioned on that thread about the older gentleman thread, one has to be extremely careful about attracting any accusation.

Having lived here for long enough, I have resolved to the fact that people (Thai or Foreign)rarely if ever see the possible good in something. I learnt a few good lessons when I was a younger man in this country about putting myself in a situation where people could put 2 and 2 together and get a logical 4, even though the stories were not true. When I want to let my hair down, I choose my company extremely carefully.

It pays to choose your friends extremely carefully in this country, because, as a foreigner, when push comes to shove, very very very very few Thai's will stand up for you. As a more amusing example I was apparently spotted once having lunch with a mia noi in Chiangmai whilst I was in Holland on a business trip. 2 days of gossip among the family and my mother in law actually told my wife what she had heard, but unbeknownst to her, I was out of the country. This is the power of chinese whispers in this country, and NO ONE will vouch for ANY mans moral rectitude.

However, in this situation, if there is one thing that can be changed about Thailand it is the fact that peoples names and faces in such crimes are splashed from cover to cover in the press and TV.

This story is already on Channel News Asia, so basically it is world wide. If he is tried and found guilty I have absolutely no sympathy for his plight whatsoever. But no right minded person can look at a case like this and believe innocent till proven guilty when the public stigma attached to the offence is so obvious.

Had a similar thing happen to me the wife got a call to rush to a restaurant as I was having dinner with another lady when the reality was I was playing pool 20ft away from the wife :)

  18. Who really cares if this guy like young boys? ...

I think you know the answer to that question. People definitely care. Very much so in Thailand, and arguably much more so when a foreigner is involved with a Thai. Of course age of consent laws vary across the world and it is arguable whether 18 is the "correct" cut off age. But that is the number here and people with an eye towards youth had best realize this is serious. Not everyone is a FOP (Friend of Putin). Again, not saying he is guilty or not, nobody posting here knows that for sure I reckon.

Thank you Jingting as I was about to go off on one with that poster and would probably been due for a suspension after I was done

    till I saw your post.

    Ridiculous post
