  1. The meter has to be adjusted to provide a living wage first, then you go after the ones refusing to use it. This taxi anarchy was precipitated by the previous government not allowing adjustment in line with living costs as they felt a low flag fall was liked by tourists - for all their concern about Thailand's image one of the most damaging things to Thailand's image is the behaviour of the bad half of taxi drivers - tourists coming here have never seen anything like it and it leaves a very bad taste in their mouths.
  2. They think that because they can do what they like in Europe without consequences, they can do it everywhere else.
  3. yes, yes, such demand you had better buy one before they are all gone.
  4. China opens up its markets very willingly to perishables such as fruit so it can exert control by stopping imports (e.g Covid 19 was found in Norwegian salmon after a Norwegian medical journal linked Covid 19 with China). They could retaliate, remains to see if they will.
  5. I can't believe that is the price on Lower Sukhumvit for tourists. Good to see Srettha sticking up for Thailand against the Chinese.
  6. How is it going with the Russians? Attracting all the right types?
  7. Usually takes multiple attempts in lower Sukhumvit in the morning to find a driver who will use the meter*. They are all driving around with the red light rigged "on" and no passengers - they stop by anyone with luggage asking if they are going to the airport. Can't be accused of failing to stop for others as red light on. It is out of control. The problem is that the last Govt didn't put the meters up in line with living costs. It started with them asking Bt100 for an 80 bt trip - fair enough, probably the fair price and then the dam broke and they were asking Bt200 or even Bt300 for same trip. * I tip them well and they very much appreciate it when I tell them I understand the meter is not fair to them
  8. We used to do a lot of things but that was then and this is now.
  9. Think it is another renegade province, obviously.
  10. Officially you have to go in person and are photographed. Not sure agents can help with this at CW.
  11. They will do a "proof of concept" construction of an oil pipeline as that is what China wants the most. China won't use it absent a blockade as it will be cheaper for tankers to sail 'round, just want it there if needed.
  12. Is this a thing now? Not experienced this before - able to renew TM47 with less than 90 days on my extension.
  13. Bt 600 for Thai Nationals though.
  14. People self medicating for ADHD. An Australian documentary nailed it. They interviewed a Thai wall painter who explained: "If I take this pill I can paint this wall and get paid, if I don't, I can't"
  15. Syrian (at least that is what he probably said).
  16. Because they are Thai.
  17. Best guess is that they end up with an oil pipeline (for China) after borrowing the money from China.
  18. It was a Bentley. Badge is utterly distinct in the link above and a FB vid I can't find now. Lions are always potentially dangerous becomes some reactions are "straight through processing". That is why somebody gets mauled by their Lion after multi year relationship - they triggered the and the Lion had done it before it realised it had.
  19. They were just whiling away the time before their Thai language classes. I expect to see the requirements for whatever visa type they were on tightened up in light of this blatant criminality - obviously the current criteria are "too easy".
  20. Baygon, 6 poison traps in a green box. Only ever seen them in Tops. Seem to do something. Might even have cleared for a long time.
  21. Judging by some of the posts on AN I think a "What are you smoking today?" thread is warranted.
