  1. Why don't we make a day of it:

Sweeney Todds for a late breakfast then into the village for an afternoon session in The Emerald followed by a trip up to Bangrak for a curry in Havelis ending up in The Premiership bar for the evening.

All food and drink provided by our wonderfull sponsors?:jap: :partytime2::guitar::burp:

    Great idea!

it is a great idea but you might as well try herding cats. half of the island doesn't get out of bed before 2pm and half of the other half are working or obligated. half of what's left are indifferent and the remainder couldn't be bothered because it wasn't their idea to begin with. if there is anybody left, they are stressing out over which negative angle they can use to cast the idea in its worst light.

i'm down though, if there is anyone that disagrees with my premise i'll be happy to engage.

would have thought you would be to busy with the fleet of yatchs and looking for hundreds of hummers to rent out to go partying

  2. Thanks Everyone, I read the Mail article and I think the costs were so high as the dog was a stray and had to have heartworm treatment whilst in quarrantine in the UK, Hopefully I will be able to get around the 6month rule with all the correct documents.

I will visit the government vet and also Nermplab Wan and see what adivice they both have for me.

    Thanks again!

when you go to nermplabwan make sure you see the owner, the kids (students) in there no nothing, if you say mali sent you tends to get things done, there average vet bill there is 30k per month. goverment vet has a young lady in there who is helpfull but does not know a lot, the govement vet has a surgery in the soi next to banglamung police station. the bloods have to go to BKK. England is deffinatly stickter, air berlin £160 in the hold which is great., somebody on board to accompany them. UK as usual is a rip off, but vet at Nermplabwan knows the system well. my landlord sends about 12 dogs a year to germany.

  3. would depend how much you are looking for rental wise and sale price, its all through th be floor right now, my friend has 5 houses on suwattana which is a nice spot, the town houses usually get trashed by the customers the agents put in, he is struggling to get tenants at 10k per month now. he just slod one for 1.7 million and they are nice, 2 beds 2 bathrooms and a downstairs loo. as usual all the neighbours hate each other.

  4. for what its worth i live 12k outside Pattaya, a lot of ex pats here and burgleries are common, usually in gated communities with gaurds. my point is its not just a Samui problem its all over where farangs are.

still we all have those money trees in the garden to replace it, or so Thai's think

  5. In respect to basic car and home insurance, I do not understand why consumers do not go direct. The reasons are quite simple;

    1. In the event of a claim, it is the insurer that adjusts the claim. The local small broker does not have much say in the settlement. It is different if one is in a large value home or has a large value vehicle.

    2. The auto insurers have direct claims telephone lines that operate 24/7. Claims can also be filed online. Check out the prospective insurers website for this information. The broker is not usually going to rush right out to your car crash, but the insurer appointed adjuster will.

    3. Is the insurance salesman going to sit and go through the policy wording with you? You have to read the contract yourself and make sure you understand it. Some agents/brokers will help, but it has not been my experience.

    4. The agent or broker for small policies serves as a sales and distribution facility as well as a premium collection point for the insurers. These facilities are not structured with service as their primary function.

    5. Personal lines agents are compensated on commission and some really do earn their commissions. Those that earn the commission will have no problem in disclosing what it is. An agent that refuses to disclose the commission has something to hide. An agent that adds a fee on top of the included commission should be able to explain why. If you look at policy distribution in many parts of the world, these fees and commissions are declared. Some agents bump up their commissions and add it back to the policy, but do not disclose this to the consumer. Local agents also derive a significant part of their income from contingency income. This is an additional commission paid by the insurer based upon the agent's protfolio growth and profitability. If the claims ratio is low, then extra money is paid to the agent.

If you use an agent, then appreciate that the person is entitled to be paid for their time and services and that the extra fees charged may very well be justified. I'm in no way undermining the value of some agents. However, for the typical small policy and a sophisticated consumer, dispense with the middleman and deal direct with the insurer as the typical agent is not going to add value to the transaction..

axa same price on car insurance direct as AA insurance. broker has more clout than me alone against AXA, his dicount or commision covers his cost, like i say i went to both and same price direct or through AA insurance. only difference was which swayed me was the broker wanted 3% for using debit card AXA was free. making claim now with AXA very simple. went to the garage direct they qouted 11000, (AXA approved) took the qoute to AXA they halved it down to 6K went back and its being done next week for 6K

  6. my friend uses Nermplab Wan hospital, he sends dogs regularly to Germany they know the procedure on blood tests, vaccines ,chipping, and paper work etc. have to get right sized crate etc. whilst i am not impressed as vets they know the procedure very well. the blood results have to go to Germany before clearance. air berlin being the cheapest by a long way. so they may be a good place to start.

  7. What I wanna know is this,

How many of the internet warriors here would have approached this man and told him he was in the wrong, how many here would go up to him and tell him what a tossa he was or is ?

Hey, it's an anonymous forum, you'd all do it, right, sure you would biggrin.gif

no need the Thais did a perfectly good enough job, big man went running off to the police after a bit of a slap.

  8. beats me why people simply dont go down to the office get a police report and a letter and thats all you need. nothings a problem until you have a problem, if your plates are a copy and its noticed at best it will be impounded, at worst you will be impounded. beats me why people always have to try and find away around the rules, then moan like hell when it goes wrong. just order real legal ones, its no big deal to do it.

  9. i just got my non b cancelled at immigration and replaced with marriage visa, plus required 40k per month sole income from British conslular in samui.

on a non b now not working and no problem when i do 90 day bounce. to much hassle with immigation doing marriage visa with letter etc from consulate now as i am Pattaya, border run is easy compared to Samui

  10. Yeah I kind of thought that as they are clear, they would just let light/heat in regardless, but there are those that say it does have a good heat reducing ability... but I can't help but notice all of these comments seem somehow linked with a company that sells the stuff. As for what Warpspeed was saying - it does seem to work on car windows right?

So it should work on windos at home as well... right?

Failing that, what about those curtains that have that kind of reflective gray material on them? The only thing is that I imagine it would put the room into complete darkness.

i have them in the bed room as sun is so stong used to wake me up but does black out room, car film seems to work but again its going make things a bit dull. maybe some blinds i have them slide them across and can open fully or partly, keeps the sun out and be opened on non sun days

  11. Hi thanks for the feedback, i am a bit unsure but read many articles about it and its seems it could be iron bacteria causing problems, i now rinse of in weak dttol solution from bottled water it seems to make things better but not ideal. filter was 8500 and i knew after research it would not do anything, i purchased testing kit and reading from well is same as coming out of filter. used to go into storage tank a lot of brown slime which again points to iron bacteria.now goes straight to so called filter. a system has to be put in costing at least 25k to sort it or public water at 40k. looking around now for another house, landlord will pay he's Farang but getting on a bit he leaves it all to his young Thai wife who does not care, still it will be a difficult house to re-rent due to location so 4 months lost rent = same price as mains water.

He is the one moving to Chantaburi purchased land and relocated about 40 dogs already.

aricles i read from states say put chlorine in, aggitate with hose pipe until can smell chlorine, leave 10 hours and run taps until smell of chlorine has gone. still not sure about it though but seems a common treatment in the states.

once again thanks for all answers.

  12. will give it a try now water madness has stopped hopefully special curry fried rice UK style chinese is available. have to agree chicken and cashew nuts at 150 seems a bit high consider the price of whats in it, i know its not aimed at Thais but compare it to being almost a days wage in this country, then maybe extra for rice. still looks ok from the outside. anybody know what time it opens?

  13. Audit of the books :cheesy: work out how many beers and breakfast have to sold you get that money back in one of Pattayas cheapest beer price areas. obviously not making a fortune or would not change hands so often

  14. i aways to same as Kerryd, go to ammeterial shop buy what quility you like and take to a thai tailor who actually makes them bypassing the shops who are a pain. i get material from shop near Naklua post office. 200 baht for 2 metres, and 300 baht to make trousers. xxl size. they fir perfect and much cheaper than tailors.

if you live in UK get a £40 one from asda, better quility and cheaper

  15. Got mine from Land transport office waited a few months i think 3, but had covering letterf from LT office as cover. same as now changing car to chon buri number plate have to wait a month but again have covering note from office, police will accept this. although in Samui i was never stopped in the 3 months so no worries.

  16. At least in Pattaya they have you do the color tests (and all the other vision tests) when you renew the DL.

dont forget watch the video yet again, i hate that vid, renewed bike and car few months apart had to watch it twice, applied for international licence and they made me do the the lot again then realised i did not have to and pulled me out the vid room after half hour.

  17. got some dodgy well water causing a few skin problems seems to be iron related. landlord put a cheap filter in and its not working. i have read on the net chlorine may cure it or kill iron bacteria. last option before moving.

anybody know where to buy some, tried carrefore, hom pro etc. was thinking swimming pool supplier anybody know where there is one preferably on the darkside, but anywhere in pattaya area would be good.

  18. Has anyone figured out what the legal limit is for Thailand? I don't believe that it is zero.

    Taxi's are cheap, zero hassles.

Years ago I made up my mind to try to not break the law. I've paid for taxi's, got my paperwork in order because I don't like cops and don't like to be hassled. It's a no brainer.

this one always puzzles me, would you like to live in a counrty with no cops, hear people here and UK saying hate cops, but if kids go missing or wife gets raped who would you call boy scouts?

  19. im in a similar situation retired at same age you are, same amount of money, then the interest rates and growth on stock market were enough, now i am using the lump sum which is not good, still i have no dependants and dont want to leave all that cash to folks up north so just have to live with it. 54 now, had to cut back a lot on nightlife and fun but it beats being back in the Uk. hopefully it will stretch out until i reach 65 and get a pension to subsidise it but were not peter pan and will get old and die so go for it.

its not a case of when reach 65 but if!

  20. ditto: random whats to hide it happened, snipers agains catapults. if it happened in the west the pictures would be every where on the anniversary, then again the west tends to have democracy of a kind. the reds have massive support amongst the police so i doubt they will do anything anyway.
