1.
They may not realize it now, but they will eventually.
It is a sad day for Thailand.

^ ABSO-F'n-LUTELY....Back to the stone ages they go.

Sadly Thai's drank the Thaksin Kool-Aid. Look at her credentials. She is not worldly, knows very little about public relations, has zero economic experience. They voted out of emotion not the best interest of their country. Most probably figured Big Man Thaksin will run it from behind the scenes and she is merely a puppet. So now the farmers THINK their problems are all fixed and it will go back to pre 2006. Thaksin fed on those poor uneducated people as he did before...............

On the bright side however, not my country, not my problem.

well george bush won with the same credentials, and well he did not actually win Democratlically. why arent uneducated peoples votes deemed worthy, they simply looked at what they had then Thaskin was in power and what they had now. Mark should have dumped Suthep then he might not have got hammered but since when did the puppet take control of the strings

  2. Shows how out of touch the Thai Visa news section regulars are with the opinions of the majority of Thai people IMO.

Great day for Thailand - putting the military and elite firmly in their places once and for all.

Thaksin is the elite. And now expect Thailand to be under his one family rule for decades. North Korea, Thai style. Be afraid.

well you would not want to live in North Korea would so best book your ticket now. dont be afraid 1 way tickets available.

great day for Thailand and great day for democracy. it was clearly going to be a landslide, tough to all the farangs who think they are far cleverer than the rural thais, well they get to have a vote as well and have.

  4. well i would sooner be sat here where i am now than in Samui, as i guess would some body in UK in office. dont think there are to many other peole in Thailand sitting wishing i was in Samui. it will never come back, its the biggest rip off going from the minute you book the flight to get there, followed by transport to hotel, then food and drinks, sontauws, taxi what ever shop always the Thai farang charging system. in the real Thailand all shops have scan cuns and everybody pays same, prices are put on product, immigration dont rip you off. just read thread chicken pox 4 nights Banagkok Samui Hospital 62k, another rip off

i would sooner be sat any where else in Thailand than in Samui exception maybe being BKK but then it would still be debatable.

as i said before i wished i had left 5 years before i did knowing what i know now.

now this post is the samui attitude of a person that left and is happier some where else. I think it comes down to the color of the lens we are looking through, some see everything black and others everything in rose or in grey, i see things clearly. Samui is my home, i have been here longer then anyplace i have ever lived. i remember needing to park my car the night before to catch the morning ferry and sitting in ques in donsak for 6 hrs to return to samui. As for immigration I have never been ripped off and in the last 10 yrs i have only given them a thank you bottle 2x, I am no fan of the taxies and when i arrived here the 1st time i rented a jeep it was around 700 baht a day and as far as i know they can still be rented for that amount. I like the white sand beaches, and cool sea breezes,I have a comfortable home, the wifi is much faster then it was in 2000, there are plenty of phone lines available now, back then people would sell their phone numbers for 10k baht because the wait was 6 mos to 1 yr. I have health insurance with evac options so medical services are not an issue. I just dont understand how anyone can expect a place to stand still and then complain because it has changed, please name one place on the planet that is a tourist destination that has not changed in the last decade. Nepal? Bali? Hong Kong? London? New York? San Fran? Calcuta and Bombai? even Burma? imo Flexability is a key ingrediant in being happy. Samui is changing and i choose to change with it.

Well said maccaroni man. I am with you 100%

I am not sure where nalak is coming form - he talks about the rip offs as a tourist. When you live here - it does not happen so much.

Nalak - if you are happy where you are then just stay there. There is no need to keep coming back to slag off Samui on the Samui forum.

still have the freedom of speech thankfully not everybody see at as slagging of but as constuctive comment, the regular posters do most of the slagging off who live there. Samui based people use other forums and i am entitled to post on here, so what about my post is slagging off, airline, taxis, prices, infrastucure. what i say is based on living there for 8 years, and still talking regulary to friends still there. my comming form is perssonel between me and the lady concerned :D . when you are living here it does not happen so much, so it does still happen then but to a lesser extent and i guess you get a taxi meter and tell him i live and he says oh ok i will turn on the meter then! and when you go to see Samui immigration they say oh you live here i will only charge 1900 for your retirement visa not 5000. bangkok airways well sir you live here here is 50% discount or you can become a member and get very resticted privilages.. when you go into the so called bars down soi reggae or green mango i guees they say hey you live here we wont charge you 90-100 baht but only 50% mark up and its 60 baht. free transport from the airport to home??? well i guess after 8 years of living there i was doing it wrong, and all the posters now critising prices have it wrong.

dont worry i am stayng here, but forum rules dont say i cannot post a reply to a question, seems there are quite a few from where i coming from reading other posts.. freedom of speech, if i say something i cannot back up as a fact i will retract it. so what is wrong about what i said, please go through it and say you got this wrong. i am not and was not a tourist so its ok by what you say to rip off tourists!!!!!!!!!!

  5. The voters are not stupid.

    Pheu Thai voters are.

They know they were better off 5 years ago. That they had more money, more freedom, less poltical upheavel and a better economy.

What proportion of rural folk know about the global financial crisis and its effects on Thailand, and the world financial markets including the causes of oil price fluctuations and its effect on prices of goods? I think a lot of the simple rural folk don't even read or watch world news and simply blame the government for higher living costs when in reality the Thai government did not cause the global financial crisis nor do they have control over world oil prices.

so having a poor education should deny you the right to a democratic vote? i think any farmer or vehicle drivedr using oil based products knows all to well oil price fluctuations mean, they are buying it on a regular basis. and how would poor country folk watch world news and even if they could what difference does it make, i watch world news but it does not effect who i vote for in a national election. Pheu Thai voters can bring up a family on 4000 baht per month could the well educated thais or farnag, i doubt it that makes them smart in my book.

  6. You not understand, do you?

Why democrats who was in power for decade did nothing before? why they just wake up now and say> "oh yes we care of everybody"? why they spend billions for army and useless material? why they put the free healthcare just now? why not before? why they take care of the eldery now? why not before? 2 years is sure not enough to educate people, especially when those people are now kids and will vote in 5 or 6 years? why the universities are so expensive for a good education?

Why trust someone who arrived in power after a coup and a government who was not elected? Just for this the thaksin supporters will vote for PTP...

Thaksin is much more clever in this game, he had the time to understand how to come in power, what the people want to hear...now the democrats just wake up...and did nothing before for them...so why choose them?

If you not understand populism you should see his western counterpart : Berlusconi, he is as bad as him and was elected and re elected.

More than that the other problem of thailand is the gap between wealthy and poors, this gap become wider and wider every year

So, after the Democrats did nothing for a decade, Thaksin comes along and does nothing for 5 years. And somehow that's different.

You're right. It's about popularism. Thaksin did nothing, but made it look like he was doing nothing. And they love him for it.

1 he brought in the 30 baht health scheme (saved father in laws life)

2 lent 1 million baht at very low interest rates to all villages

3 virtually took out the drug trade in Thailand

4 paid off Thailands world debt which is now back upto 70,000 baht per head in Thailand thanks to marks tactics.

5 took the country forwards in leaps and bounds thechnology wise.

brought low cost air travel to the masses.

is there any business that is doing better now than what it was under Thaskin, i doubt it.

formed stronger links with Thailands neighbours.

  7. Pretty much any of the scenarios would make large factions angry. If there isn't a party winning an outright majority of seats, then any flash point could be delayed until a coalition was formed. Odds are neither party will win such a majority. However, if PT wins more seats but not a majority (most likely) there is certainly a potential that the redshirt will begin rioting right way (as is their custom) to demand that the coalition goes their way with violence, threats, and intimidation. Kind of like how Bush activists behaved in Florida 2000, but much more potential for violence.

and the custom of the yelow shirts when they did not win was to disrupt the travel plans of 350,000 people around the world by illegally occupying the airports. my freiend and family took 3 days to get home from Phuket including taxi from Phuket to BKK. think he will be cearing on the reds. Suthep has been just as bad a boy as Taskin.as for intimidation well if the yellows dont win the army will probably intervene again with their style of Democracy. if tanks anrent intimmidating what is

  9. B.H.S is renown for it's expense which is why some insurance companies shun it. 4 days/3 nights however for 62k is not unreasonable for that type of hospital.

Suggest you get health insurance :jap:

i would have thought 4k per night was adeqate for room charge, plus nursing but thats all this was plus some Aciclovir. seems way over the top, what was the break down on the bill?

  10. proably be a curfew in place next week so good practise closing the bars, hopefully yellows will leave airport alone have to go back to UK in a few weeks. my mobiles been going crazy today from "friends" in Pattaya then i fugured enforced holiday for 2 days. still make hay whilst sun shines and all that.

for the ploice will be giving the tourist areas the toughest scewteny, cant have any money spending tourist spending money whilst the elctroate are all out getting smashed at local bars in the sticks. DHs

Come on you RED S :D

edit PS yes got me to because its a belivable story in Thailand.

  11. I am seriously freaking out. Will the embassy help me with this? Truth be told I dont have any real family. I left home at 14... Thats over 15 years ago now. Im just an independent nomad who is now caught in a web that seems impossible to escape from. Are there any other ways out of the country without a border? I cant even stand the thought of Prison. My flight leaves in 2 days and I have to be on it. I feel like I have no control of this situation. I just want to rewind to a week ago and be sat on the beach with a Singha. There is absolutely no way on earth to raise that kind of money in 2 days. I will have to go to the embassy tomorrow and pray my ass off.

understand your thoughts on the prison, i visited the ones in Pattaya a few times built for 15 have nearly 100 in some times, 1 broken old fan 1 toilet and no sympathy from police. your heading there if you dont get it sorted, get onto consulate ASAP, dont even try leaving over a border other wise you will be in big trouble when you try and exit neighbouring country.
