  1. Let it slide man, it's not your kid...

Its not about him being my child... Its about her being ignorant to the fact of common sense... Also listening to the same shit about him being sick everymonth is pretty tiring

gave up years ago, may as well let it go make sure you dont pay for the trip to Surin, my thinking must be another eason to want to go to surin. thanksfully my wifes kid lives at home withb mum and dad, told her at least 5 years ago unless somebody gets a grip on him he will be a bad un, now shes had to go home because he is being a bad un and grandad and granma who spoilt him to hell cannot get him to go to school. not my problem. dont let it bother you or it will do your head in.

  2. sorry to hear that, i was with him in pattaya when he had the crash on the way back, we had some problems getting his orginal surname for the embassey to inform NOK. i found out from Dave at view talay in Pattaya. as i understood it when i passed the info on and it got to the British Consulate his sister had been located and informed and gave the go ahead for the cremation.

something i always wanted to ask but never have where are Joes ashes laid, if i ever return to Samui would like to go and pay my respects to my old mate.

  3. it wont stop 1 thai who wants to get drunk from getting drunk, as always plenty of shops will sell booze, my experience is the thais dont tend to go to bars to much anyway sit around in groups drinking booze from mom po stores etc, they had plenty of time to stock up anyway. does however have impact on tourist trade if it weremy 2 week vacation and bars were closed like this i would never come back. the heavy presence of poice is always around th farang owned tourist bars. stupid rule, still good for the likes of Cambodia and vietnam who are fast over taking Thailand in most areas, particularly education standards.

wife has gone home to vote but more importantly to get 300 baht of democrats and 300 baht of peu thai, as the rest of the village have to get there vote. does the country really deserve democracy with this kind of attitude.

  4. I have a UK private pension. It is paid into my Nationwide flexaccount every month and I have set up a standing order to transfer it into a high-interest (that's a laugh) Nationwide internet-run savings account a few days later. It accumulates there and once a year I transfer it all back to the Nationwide flexaccount. From there I transfer it to my Kasikorn Thai bank account over here to satisfy my visa requirements. This can all be done online.

If you transfer your pension over here monthly it will cost you a transfer fee monthly. If you let your pension company convert GB pounds into baht before transfer you will get a terrible rate.

If you can last even six months before needing the money then transfer the accumulated pension from your UK account twice a year, each time sending GBP so the conversion to baht is done this end.

I have done this now for ten years without a hitch.

Do look on the web for annuity calculators as you may get a better rate than you think. Do not accept your insurance company's first offer. By now you should have an idea of how much is in your 'pot' and you can use that in the annuity rate checker to get a good idea of what you will be offered by different companies. I did it last week and it's very easy to try out different scenarios eg, lump sum or not, increasing pension or static amount, any health problems.

Final point. If you are married then add your wife to the UK account as a joint account holder so that when you do die, hopefully many years from now, she will be able to access the money and perhaps use it also for her widow's pension.

doing that will reduce the monthly amount, just a thought as they then have to wait for you both to die before they stop paying

  5. 55 now before you can take your pension, i took one at 50 tried to take another at 53 and was told that jerk gorden brown changed the rules and you cant touch it until you are 55 now. bless him. i used to work for teh Prudential and they had over 20 options when taking pension, with mine i went for sole life only, get more that way

You should review your Personal Pension contribution regularly (at least every year). At retirement (any age after 55 but 50 before 2010) you take your benefits. A tax free cash sum is available up to 25% of the fund you have built up.

  6. problem is where do police sart to look, can hardly search all sukumvit area for 1 lady boy, the id card would certainly be registered away from where culprit lived if his at all. cctv and id cards waist of time, dont take strangers especially lady boys back to your room. if the police by chance caught the lady boy as in other counties they have to be found in possesion, they stuff would be gone within the hour, hence no police action. how many times aday do you think the police have to listern to this crap from people who have been dumb enough to take a complete stranger back to there room.

  7. Like I said - I Googled and the number you posted took me to CAT Telecom, not Nathon Post Office.

    0-7742-1013 22 Moo. 3 Chonwithee Road, AngthongKoh SamuiSurat Thani84140

is this one of the other numbers you have, what numbers do you have?

p.s you did not say you had googled, just what you found on line

  8. i left after 8 years, no power cuts then, living in small village in Chon Buri and its at least half the price of samui. no rips everthing priced up, usually with bar codes as well so all prices same. in town baht buses 10 baht alaround city. roads are great tarmaced and cleaned regulary. last week storm left a road in the village covered in sand, next day fire brigade cleaned it up. today all grass verges cut. lakes and mountains all around. leo 29 baht, san mig 40 baht got large 3 bed two bathroom house 8500 per month. swampy les than1 hour away air con bus 129 baht. full English 89 baht.wished i had left Samui years ago, best thing i ever did was to move away. give it a try. one downside ploice do checks regular which for me is good thing but you see them every day doing car searches and motorbike checks under seats. if you got licence, insurance and proof of owner ship never a problem

Pattaya town is dead though which again is a good thing, as beachcomber says girls here going to BKK to get normal work at 8-10k per month

  9. Lot more visa friendly, as mentioned beers, ciggies food a lot cheaper......Sihanoukville is an OK beach resort......great place to live and then hop over to Thailand every few months but as stated, hospitols etc are still very dated.

do they have houses to rent in that area, i would like to be near a beach area and some nightlife. mulling over moving as heard few that done it, just wondered how is the accomadation long term. would miss the like of tesco etc as well, and internet but i guess theymaybe have it.

  10. my housekeeper works 9-6 mon-sat, sundays off

    she does not live in

she has been with me 8 years and started at 5000 a month

    i pay her 10,000 a month now

i give here an additional 1000 a month for fuel allowance as i moved out of the city and live out at Mabprachan now

i pay her for national holidays, songkran etc and two additional paid weeks off per year

she does all the laundry, ironing etc

she knows what i expect from her

i don't need to chase her around telling her what to do

she is like a family member know

i do not know how we would manage without her............

hats of to for treating her like a human being, the posts about 3-5k 2 days per month holiday well i would like to see those people put on that and try and live on 3k per month spending money. we forigners do have the wealth so why not spread it around a little to those who were unfortunate to be born in the wrong part of the world.

i would like to see david wright try and live on 3k per month, thats exploytation and slave labour. Burmese are human beings as well. and yes you can end up in a world of pain employing somebody without a visa

  11. many many place have shops with stacks of wood outside, they make all sort of differnt things plenty on darkside roads, just draw a picture and they will make it to your own spec for half if not less than the price of pet shops. road leading up to nong pru has quite a few but there are loads. pet shops will rip you off. make sure its treated with temite treatment.

  12. if you can get the right deal i would always use num chai after sales is great, can take the appliance back to get it repaired, big c etc dont want to know after 1 week. having said that i got last fridge from big c as it was so cheap if it went wrong bin it. guess it depends what you want.

, hardly just joined, just because they don't post as much they show as newbies..

Roo its not meant as negative feedback, its a fact they took the effort as newbies to write about the food, i have know the guy who runs the place for 3 years and used to work with him, the guy who does the singing in there i have known for 6 years. i know a lot of the comments are negative but mine arnt there status is newbie, which means they dont make many posts but made posts about the food so it must be good. see it for what it is thats a posative comment

  14. Is there any bad incidents with these rental places?

Like bikes being taken away by spare keys and demanding the cost for the bike etc?

Or demanding some mechanical or cosmetic fault for the bike?

What should first timer be aware of?

I heard somewhere that never hand them the original passport.

    thx

in my experience yes to all of the above, although my experience of the spare key rip of was Samui not pattaya, faults on bike on are common and never ever hand over orginal passport to anybody, nobody has the right to hold your passport

  15. hi guys & girls , no ! what i should of said was ( i am actually a guy ) & am looking for a decent hotel resonably priced with a pool & they dont mind you bringing female company back to the room , should i get lucky LOL :)

    cheers ( sorry 4 the missunderstanding )

i used to use the opey de place near lk metro, good rooms pool, on baht bus route, loads of drinking places on the door step and pool. in Pattaya i dont think there is such a thing as a non girl friendly hotel. its around your budget and across the road from what is for me the best breakfast for the money in pattaya 99 baht. should you get lucky well its very much low season and you dont really get a choice at the moment. odds at least 30-1 in favour of finding future wife.

all the times i stayed there was with wife but it was obviously girl friendly as you say.

if you do tak estrangers back to room use safe if there are no room safes they only cost 800 baht to buy, there seems to be a misonnseption that a copy of s strangers id and cctv means 100% safty, when in fact it prtects you against nothing. take a girls id into soi 9 and say this girl robbed me and they will shrug shoulders and say and, ot why you take this girl to your room, be carefull with that answer. cctv well that shows a poor quality picture of a small brown haired girl walking to or from room, again soi 9 guys will laugh at it.

  16. go go bars have web sites aimed at attracting people in home countries, obviously marketing department no doing to well in chaweng then must be the conclussion :) i ran 3 of the biggest bars on the island and was never approached once, was not having ago, used to work in sales and marketing and it was just my perspective on the OPs question.

as a matter of intrest why dont the business in chaweng sponser, i now work for a sponser will ask the question what they feel they get back from it. not many google searches would bring up sponsers. as has been said i think sponsers here aim at ex pat trade Chaweng is tourist trade. i assumed there was not a marketing department

    (16) advertising prohibited profession :whistling:

  17. simple answer is if they thought it would benefit there business they would, obviously they dont, many are bigger and use other avenues such as Fah Thai. the only bar i know who do regular checks on what adverts bring in what amount of business was the ice bar. many ust the songtaows, some have taken a beating on here. there have been chaweng advertisers on here in the past. times are a changing and this style of advertising is dying out as tv channels and newspapers are finding out. how could you go about approaching them as that would be classed as working and need a permit so its not like it could be marketed.
