Elon Musk says he withheld Starlink over Crimea to avoid escalation
billd766 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Did he give the Russians the same denial of access that he so generously gave to the Ukrainians? If he was even handed that is reasonable, if he favoured the Russians over the Ukrainians, that would make him the bad guy. Fortunately I suspect that the Ukrainians got better access via the US and EU satellites. -
Are you willing to be on the very front line with your Thai family and friends? It is very easy for us expats partly hidden behind our computers, and criticise the Thais for not "having a go". It is a whole lot different when there are only a few metres between you and a load of soldiers and policemen armed to the teeth, with guns loaded with live ammunition and the safety catches off. Behind them are water cannons and tanks. Talk is much cheaper than lives.

Thaksin's Family Refutes Fake News; Misleading Post Sparks Outrage
billd766 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It goes back to the 1980s and has more twist and turns than the road from Tak to Mae Sot. There are probably as many positive links and negative links What some posters claim as the truth, others claim as lies. It is a bit like a UK pantomime with shouts of "Oh no it isn't and Oh yes it is". He has or hasn't got millions of supporters depending on what and who you read. If I were a gambling man I would put money on you being bored fairly quickly and dumping the threads into the trash bin. -

Here is a link from Wikipedia for starters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thaksin_Shinawatra If you root around the searches you will find many other links both for and against Thaksin. As an alternative you can do a search on ANN/TVF for him on this forum. Before you start make a coffee and get some snacks asyo be a long while. -

OTOH you could simply have asked. I thought that you were smart enough to do that. Nobody else seems to have responded the way that you did which means that they understood or weren't bothered. -

It looks like a good machine but can I climb stairs with one? My zimmer frame has no wheels so when I go to somewhere that has stairs I can climb with it. It also has a seat and is claimed to support 200 kg thou I am only 107.5 kg now. Also it is height adjustable (as is my walking stick) so my wife can use it when I die. -

Well AFAIR my nearest gym is about 65 km away and that would mean asking my wife to drive me an hour each way and hang around waiting for me. Of course you could have asked me why and I would have told you. Not everybody in Thailand lives close to a gym, nor could I make full use of a gym. Is that a good enough explanation for you, or would you like to know all of my ailments, which precludes my using a gym as well? -

Thank you for reminding that I have an elliptical machine outside that I haven't used in years. I will have to root it out, give it a good wash and brush up and chuck some new batteries in it and see if it still works. It is good for people with bad knees as you work it without running and hammering your knees. IIRC I can exercise and count the time or the distance. -

I can but it is not too polite. STS is shot to <deleted>. Both of my kneecaps have the cartilages' worn away and it is mainly bone on bone rubbing together away. https://profadrianwilson.co.uk/knee-treatments/knee-anatomy/ courtesy of Professor Adrian Wilson via Dr Internet. Sorry about that, I clicked on the wrong button. Here are a bunch of historical maps of Palestine dating back to the time of Jesus who was actually Palestinian right up to 1948. Up until that time Israel did not even exist. https://www.edmaps.com/html/israel_and_palestine_2.html So Palestine has existed for several years as against the 75 years of Israel. And now for one of Palestine in 2020. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/369154500689150802/ Palestine is a whole lot smaller now. -

If you can remember that far back the Palestinians had their own country and it was called Palestine. -

Start your counting way back in 1948 and not in the last few years. That is 75 years There are Palestinian families that still have the keys to the houses all over Palestine that the Israelis confiscated from that period, not counting vast areas of Palestine lands that have been stulen. Not to mention the Israeli blockade of the land and sea around the Gaza strip. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockade_of_the_Gaza_Strip The blockade of the Gaza Strip is the ongoing land, air, and sea blockade of the Gaza Strip imposed by Israel and Egypt temporarily in 2005–2006 and permanently from 2007 onwards, following the Israeli disengagement from Gaza. https://reliefweb.int/report/occupied-palestinian-territory/generation-under-blockade-consequences-israels-17-year-blockade-gaza-strip-enar#:~:text=From 2006 to 2022%2C Gaza's,affected received only 30% compensation. From 2006 to 2022, Gaza’s agricultural sector suffered losses of approximately $1.3 billion as a result of the blockade and multiple Israeli military attacks; those who were affected received only 30% compensation. Throughout 2022, the electricity crisis in the Strip also persisted, with residents receiving power for only 12 hours a day in the best-case scenario. The availability of electricity is dependent on both the Kerem Shalom crossing staying open to import fuel (which Israel can close at any time for security reasons), as well as the continued funding for the fuel needed to run the Strip’s sole power plant; for years, Qatar has been providing funds for fuel. -

PM Srettha agrees to use bullet-proof Mecedes-Benz
billd766 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Most government leaders are driven around in bullet and bomb proof government vehicles. According to the Bangkok Post (nothing quoted) the Thai PM has 2 of them from a batch of 4, costing 78 million baht, They were bought in March 2016 when Prayuth was the PM. One for daily use and one as a spare. It is easy to look up facts on an internet search. -

Hypocrisy from the Israelis who are doing to the Palestinians what the Germans did to the Jews before and during WW2. Double hypocrisy from most of the world leaders who turn their blind eyes and pretend that it is not happening, while at the same time condemning the Palestinians for fighting back with the only weapons they have. Meanwhile the Israeli military use tanks, heavily armed troop, ground attack aircraft and helicopter gunships. -
