  1. And what has the current government, (you know the one that stole the country from its true owners at gunpoint, the Thai people), ever given the people in return? Not even scraps off the table. 8 years of misery, 2 million job losses, unhappiness and NO reconciliation for the people, students jailed under the LM law, for peacefully protesting. No wonder the current lot are terrified of Thaksin or anybody who would stand against the. They may win the next election by hook or by crook, (IMHO by crook) but that doesn't mean that the Thai people will accept it. Can you remember Prayuth in2014 declaring that there will be NO military coup? Or after the coup that he promised would never happen, the promise to reform the police, the military, the civil service that never happened either. Or the promise to restore harmony and reconciliation to the Thai people that STILL hasn't happened? I do and so do millions of Thais. quote from your post "Thaksin only gave scraps from his dining table... a few crumbs for the rice growers of the NE so they would vote for him, while he helped himself to billions." At least they got something.
  2. What has the current government and employers offered, other than another 8 years like the last 8 years. Twice the square root of FA? The loss of another 2 million jobs? Another 8 years of bringing happiness and reconciliation to the Thai people the military way? I can remember back to the Thaksin era. There were a lots of jobs available, there was a lot more money around and Thais were a lot happier. Compare it with nowadays.
  3. Why don't ALL the big owners here in Thailand give a few billion of their own money to distribute?
  4. Very true. Could that be why he suggesting that it be phased in over an 8 year period?
  5. At least when he came to power he didn't completely forget his supporters, which is probably why he was elected to a second time with an overall majority in parliament. What has ANY military government, especially this one, ever given to the people of Thailand?
  6. Good for you. You have done tour bit, Bills Smart has done his bit with his dogs, I have done my bit with no dogs. However that doesn't fix the big problem of soi dogs. There are literally millions of them and sadly for the dogs, nobody wants them. Many Thais believe that they are doing their bit for Buddhism by simply feeding the dogs and walking away. In fact they are part of the problem too.
  7. It is NOT a microscopic view here. It is reality and every road you travel, every village you pass through, in Thailand has the same problem. It will not go away and every stray dog that is fed, every stray dog that is spayed or snipped contributes to the problem. There are very few dog owners in Thailand who even make any effort to look after dogs, so the problem multiplies to add to your destruction of the environment. Get rid of the soi dogs and that will be a very small part of the problem cleared. Leave them to breed and multiply and the problem grows.
  8. Actually "WE" that is me didn't bring any dogs here, neither did my Thai wife. Like you we did our bit looking after 3 dogs on her 15 rai, that multiplied and died off. None of our dogs were inside dogs, they all lived outside. As we got older we realised that we couldn't look after the dogs properly (I am 78 now) so we got rid of them to other homes over 10 years ago. To properly secure 15 rai will take a 2 metre high wall 1.6 km long with a proper front gate and a couple of side gates, and the cost will be horrendous.
  9. But 3 stray dogs doesn't even scratch the surface of the soi dog problem, which is millions of stray dogs across the whole of the country. You are taking a microscopic view of the problem when in reality is is massive as so many posters have said on this thread.
  10. So you would be willing to accept ALL the hundreds and thousands of dogs at your place. If not then please come up with a reasonable plan where to relocate all these stray dogs so that they will not be a nuisance to anybody. Also please explain exactly who will be responsible for homing them, feeding them, vets bills etc for hundreds of thousands and potentially millions of stray dogs across the whole of Thailand. Who will be responsible for cleating up tons of dog <deleted> daily, and where will they put it so that it doesn't spoil local water sources. Simply saying relocate them somewhere else is a cop out. A NIMBY excuse
  11. I am not a dog hater. I am a hater of lazy irresponsible dog owners who, while they feed the dogs, mostly, they then ignore the dogs and let them run free everywhere. If there is an accident where somebody is injured, or a dog injured or killed, NOBODY admits yo ownership of the dog. At best, the dog dies, at worst it is left to recover on its own.
  12. But if you read the story it will be over an 8 year period and not all on day 1.
  13. Why should somebody else be lumbered with the problem?
  14. And how long will they stay there and at whose expense?
  15. Why stop at Phuket. The menace of soi dogs is everywhere in Thailand. spaying and giving dogs dogs vasectomies only helps in the long term in small areas. and keeps the pet lovers happy. Outside my house in rural Kamphaeng Phet is a T junction. On Wednesday evening about 7:15 pm a Thai came up the leg of the T on his scooter and turned to his left, straight into a pack of soi dogs. One dog was killed and the guy was taken to hospital. The damage was a badly broken scooter or motorbike, a Thai in hospital certainly overnight and maybe longer, a hospital bill he has to pay, repairs to his scooter if it isn't a write off, possibly no job after he recovers, a family with no income, and of course NOBODY knows or admits to whose dog it was. What I do know is that last week a neighbour had 4 dogs and this week, only 3 dogs. IMHO there needs to be dog wardens to catch every dog not securely in a compound or on a lead. Every dog and its owner MUST be registered with a collar and ID and have a licence. If found without then sent to a kennel for 7 days after that the dog to be humanely destroyed. NO exceptions.
  16. TBH I have no idea. The last time I handled a gun, was an SLR 7.62 mm rifle in my last year in the RAF back in 1983. Nasty evil things whose sole purpose is simply to kill. A gun of any type has no other purpose.
  17. According to the BKK Post (I am not permitted to link the article), it was a home made single shot pistol of .38 calibre. One child was reportedly playing/showing off with it, when he dropped it onto a computer keyboard and it went off. Being home made it most probably had no safety catch, the only safety being if the hammer is against the cartridge and the gun is not cocked. It is just as dangerous to the user as it is to the victim. What makes me wonder, is how the hell can a 14 year old boy get the gun in the first place. At that age I don't think that he has the skills to make it and all over Thailand there must be little workshops turning out this murderous stuff cheaply.
  18. How sad. Imagine putting immigrants into tents. Just the sort of answer I would expect from a NIMBY. A cop out answer. Where is the water and sewage going to be laid, where will the migrants eat, who will be feeding them, clearing all the trash on a daily basis? Where will the power come from? What if the local authorities refuse permission. What if the owner refuses permission?
  19. That would mean that a family of 4 would have spent 140,000 baht in PKK and nothing in their own province. I am not disputing your figures but those of the provincial governor, Mr. Sathien Charoenruen. Those I find hard to believe.
  20. I take my BP every morning, twice if I have been cutting the grass and scrub. With at least an hour between the 2 tests. I normally take 5 readings on the trot and use the middle one. I made an Excel program and log them daily. About 3 weeks ago I screwed up my order and missed about 2 weeks of meds. I had no energy, kept falling asleep and generally felt as rough as old boots. Never again.
  21. Blah, blah, blah, BS.
  22. I don't think that he came to his senses as such, but what he did was illegal and he was caught out. IMHO he was "face" shamed into replacing the football pitch, hopefully at his own expense again.
  23. The very few SAS guys that I have met while serving, never mentioned that they were ex SAS. At he first sign of a bar fight they would pay their bill and quietly leave.
  24. 100% correct on the military pensions and also ex Special forces. Ex RAF of 25 years, boy and man. I have another ex RAF mate somewhere around Udon Thani way. He was not special forces either but bought himself out early, so no RAF pension. Neither of us are barflies any more.
  25. You seem to know everything. You tell us all with proof. If you have no proof, then stop trolling. What he did with his time and money is HIS business, NOT mine, NOT yours and NOT anybody elses.
