So if a politician said something 34 years ago, it is still sacrosanct today and can NEVER be changed. I suppose that would be correct IF the world was exactly the same as it was 34 years ago, but it isn't. 34 years ago Russia was in a mess, breaking up and the East European states and their peoples were choosing to side with Russia or go to the West. Russia had not annexed any part of the Ukraine and the Ukraine still had Russian nuclear missiles on their soil. NATO was much smaller then. Poland was not even a member of NATO. East Germany was being reunited with West Germany, the Berlin Wall had been demolished and the Iron Curtain between the East and the West was being dismantled. Putin was not president of Russia. Yet you believe that what one person said 34 years ago is current today in a completely different world to then.

Top 3 Male Qualities That Thai Women Look For
billd766 replied to Alpha84's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Not really. There are of course many men, even on this forum that actually DO believe it. It perhaps does NOT apply to the majority of Thai women, or women worldwide, at least in my experience, but I am sure it applies to some Thai women and women worldwide. -
Horrific Rape & Killing of 12-year-old Texas girl: Men Charged

Perhaps you should learn how to answer a simple reasonable question before commenting. On 6/22/2024 at 3:45 PM, paul1804 said: Yes dead right, many of these unlawful migrants somehow get to vote under the Biden administration. You can't fix stupid!!! The question was simple, Please explain how illegal immigrants can get to vote. If you can answer the question then please do so. If you cannot, then you have proved the other part of my post. This was what you claimed. Can you back it up by an explanation? -

What is the cost of rearing a toddler in NE Thailand?
billd766 replied to RabidRenu's topic in Marriage and Divorce
It was a good and sensible question but with too many variables to put an accurate figure on. For example a pack of pampers in a 7/11 would be more expensive than a similar or larger pack in BigC or Makro, and even more expensive in Robinsons. Similarly a village government school is a little cheaper than a city government school and much cheaper than a private school, depending on the distance and the private school may also be a boarding school which, is even more expensive as there would be the cost of boarding, food etc. I am glad that you did ask the question, as it forced me to think about how much it has cost me to raise mine until age 21 with 2 more years to go. -
What is the cost of rearing a toddler in NE Thailand?
billd766 replied to RabidRenu's topic in Marriage and Divorce
NO it isn't. It is a perfectly reasonable and sensible question for any farang to ask, if they are paying to raise a child anywhere in the world. Even more so, if the farang father is not living with the mother and child in Thailand. If you don't like the thread then simply skip it along with your pointless posts. -

The string just got longer. From what age to what age? Is the toddler at kindergarten, at junior school or high school? Government or Private school? How many different types and how many different sets of school clothes would be needed? Don't forget normal out if school clothes as well. Would you be taking the toddler to school yourself, sharing as part of a group or using school bus transport? How about pocket money? Mine started at 20 baht a day and when he left high school at age 18 to go to university he was on 100 baht a day, Now starting he second year at uni I send him 18,000 baht a month for food, rent and living expenses plus pay his mobile phone bill. The string gets longer still. I live in rural Kamphaeng Phet which has similar costs to Issan and I have supported my wife for some 30 years and our son for over 20 years. Neither come cheap, but they are really worth it. -
I have thought that if/when I get an ETrike/4 wheeler, instead of a flag I think that a piece of blue 1 inch water pipe with 1 or 2 LED strips front and back might be a better option. Depending on the Etrike battery voltage, I may have to buy a small 12 volt car or motorbike battery to power it. At least you can be seen from a greater distance, and perhaps a squeezy bicycle horn as an audible warning. Honk honk.

Summer solstice brings longest day and shortest night tomorrow
billd766 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It is also the summer solstice at Stonehenge near Amesbury, Wiltshire in the UK, if the brain dead morons from the Stop Oil movement don't try to screw it up as they have done once this week already. Crowds of around 10,000 traditionally greet the moment dawn breaks, as the sun rises behind the Heel Stone, the ancient entrance to the Stone Circle, with a mixture of cheers and silent meditation each June. Some people believe that eons ago there used to be human sacrifices held there. Perhaps it should be restarted using the Stop Oil morons as the beginning of a new age. -
Thailand Calls for Inclusive Ukraine Peace Talks
billd766 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And as long as Russia is still attacking and invading the Ukraine peace will not be achieved/ If Russia had not attacked the Ukraine in the first place, there would be no need for peace talks. Trump OTOH, would have simply ignored the Ukraine's request for assistance, and told Putin to carry on invading who he wants. -
Quote from the OP "Despite these revelations, the truth about the situation in Gaza has not been widely reported. Seth Mandel, writing in Commentary, highlighted the findings of the U.N. report and other analyses that debunk the famine claims. Similarly, Seth Frantzman in The Jerusalem Post cited the work of two Columbia University professors who analyzed the data and refuted the idea that Israel is starving Palestinians. And the news came from (what a surprise) the Jerusalem Post, where only one reporter cited the work of only two Columbia University professors who analyzed the data and refuted the idea that Israel is starving Palestinians. The Jerusalem Post is hardly an unbiased source of news about Gaza or the Palestinians, and I for one, don't believe it.

Marriage Visa Extension
billd766 replied to billd766's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thank you. I have already made a start on the paperwork for the new extension. Part of my problem is that AFAIR, I am sure that somebody in KPP told me that whilst my extension would only be until my old passport expired, when I had my new passport it would revert back to the old date in November. In addition when the stamps were changed over they gave me a 90 report for 25 July so I assumed that the extension was renewed as well. That would have been in 2022 or 2023. The older lady lieutenant who used to do the extensions has retired now, and the Senior Sgt Major, who did the extension last year seems to have moved on. There seems to be a new crew in the front office now. I know it was my own fault and not theirs, and they did try to contact me beforehand. -
Reform UK Overtakes Tories in Polls for the First Time

How can anyone justify voting for the Tory or Labour party in view of the beggars muddle that both parties have made of running the UK over the last 30 or 40 years? -

billd766 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Out of curiosity how long had you been living out of the UK at the time I believe that the time limit back then was 15 years living out of the UK. I just managed to squeak in with my proxy vote from Thailand. The Brexit party voters won with a majority of the votes cast and the Brexit negotiations were left with the government at the time to get the best deal for the UK that they could. That they didn't get the best deal was nothing to do with Farage but down to the skills, (or lack of skills) of the people sent to do the job. The final decision was down to whichever PM it was at the time and to the cabinet. AFAIR the British people were not given a choice, other than like it or lump it. Could Farage have done it better or differently? Perhaps or perhaps not, and that is something that nobody will ever know for sure. quote from your post. 'What should/ can the UK have done differently?' I have posed this question many times but have not, as yet, received an answer. If the UK had used a different tactic or different people, maybe we could have had a different result. If the EU had used a different tactic or different people, maybe we could have had a different result. The problem is that if one side changes, the other side will react differently. The UK wanted the best result for the UK and the EU wanted the best result for the EU. But was their goal the same? -
Marriage Visa Extension
billd766 replied to billd766's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I keep all my old expired passports and showed the new one, the expired one and the 2 before that to the guy at Immigration out of interest. I have no idea if it only applies to the KPP office as that is the one I use, or to all Immigration offices nationwide, Going back over the years before KPP was opened (and moved accommodation 4 times, I used Nakhon Sawan 130 km away, and before that in 2009 I used the nearest, which at the time was Mae Sot about 180 km away. Before that when I lived and worked in BKK I used Suan Phlu. Why was I lucky that I had not burned the 60 day visa? It is the first time I have ever used one since 1993 when I first came he on business. Thank you for your advice but I suggest that you go and teach your grandmother to suck eggs, I have been doing both retirement and marriage extensions since 2009 quite successfully on my own without the need for an agent. AFAIK from talking to immigration it will be back to the normal 1 year extension. I normally go in about 3 weeks early anyway. The main difference this year is that I no longer need to do any photos or stuff for my son as he is at Uni in Chiang Rai and only comes home during the holidays. I have always found that KPP Immigration is a farang friendly office, perhaps because they are only a small office. The biggest problem is that Bangkok bank needs 3 working days to produce 12 months statements and the branch is 65 km away from where I live which is a PITA.
