Ran for about 3 years and has to be the longest thread of all time on AN. Proper title is Do you believe in God and why? or something like that. Haven't seen the OP for years. The thread died quite a long time ago, so it's a ways back on the Pub subforum. Most of the serious contributors are no longer on the forum.

Seriously?????? How many times have people on your side said Trump is insane, without any qualifications to do so? I don't remember you criticizing them for doing so.

Defection, deflection, deflection. WE ain't standing to be the leader of the free world. He isn't trying to be in charge of the library story time for kids; he wants to be in charge of nuclear weapons. At a minimum he shouldn't be confused ANYTIME, and able to deal with stressful situations.

Biden has good days when he can read his speech off the screens. It's when there is no teleprompter that he falls apart. These days he looks old all the time. Would any of us let grandpa carry on like this? They can't love him very much to let him, IMO. Just because he wants to isn't a good enough reason to let him.

Alas, he is as much able to actually do anything about it as you or I. At most he can ride the wave till his time in the big chair ends. If one wants to know what the end of Empire looks like from the inside, just look at what is happening in the western world. IMO enjoy the ride till it's over.

It's hell on earth particuarly so for Ukrainian troops. One wonders if Biden's current troubles are caused by Ukrainian troops sticking pins into Biden dolls for putting them in the situation?

Oops, that's going to make it harder for western governments to justify sending lots of taxpayers money to get blown up. One can only wish that the western "leaders" that wasted all the money on a doomed cause will suffer for it, but in reality they never do. Even the <deleted> Kissinger walks free as a bird instead of in a federal prison.

I had one of those, when I realised that our world, the world of humans, is based almost entirely on BS. Not exactly oneness with the creator, but enlightening to myself. Didn't change my life, just let me look at things from a different perspective. I was already deeply cynical about humanity, and there's not much lower to go from that.

It's a shame that the God thread has ended. Many discussions along those lines took place, but everything ends and it had a good run. Your views would have been welcomed by the few of us that took it seriously. Of those I think I'm the only one still posting on AN.

Having piqued my interest I looked up the last page on the Ukraine war in that forum, and it's not exactly bubbling with enthusiasm for a Ukrainian victory. Some of the guys could have been also posting on here for the anti Russian side. I don't know how it's going to work out for "us", but I'm pretty sure that Putin won't be having a cuppa and a lie down when it's over, and will be creating a war machine that works the next time, while our lot will go back to working out what bit of the military they can axe. Those that forget history are doomed to repeat it and our lot ( if they even took history at school ) obviously never learned anything about Russia. I suppose it's our fault for electing a bunch of numpties.

Of course the madmen that run things in the human world will take the opportunity to get a lot more of the people that they are supposed to look after killed, so they can take a few more feet of land, before they sit down to divide the spoils. When I think about such things as the last poor conscript to get killed in every last "big push" the human race sickens me. Up to me if politicians want to go to war, they and their families should be in the front lines from day one. That would be the end of all wars of course.

Sooo, barring something really unexpected, like some Euro nitwit politician deciding it would help him get elected if he joined in, it's going to be what I and some others have been saying for 2 years. Of course Zelensky is now negotiating from a position of weakness, unlike 2 years ago. IMO the human race really is screwed if they carry on like this fiasco. A species that kills it's own isn't going to last long and we've only been around 50,000 years or so, which is hardly any time at all in a planetary sense. Hope the next version works out better.

My wife got a company to put a new gate on the carport. It fell off the next day as they didn't clean the steel and the tack weld on the hinge fell off. Luckily I can weld, so she borrowed a welder and I re did all the welds properly. Not sure if DIY is the solution to the OP's problem. Does take a while to learn to weld properly.

However I assumed they would do a continuous seam, welding these two rails together and not just tack them. IMO not good practice to do a continuous weld that long. Has to be proper welds though, not just tacks. Will this be sufficiently durable for a modern car to drive over it twice a day? If it was my gate I'd put wood strips slightly higher than the rail either side to take the car weight. Secured to the floor of course.

It's a new one on me, and even google comes up with a load of irrelevant stuff. I can guess it stands for brigade, which would be in context, but I have no idea why the (-), unless it stands for less than a brigade. Seems the UK's military is going in harms way, gutted by the politicians. It's the conscripts that will suffer when the next big one starts.

That has to be 2 of the worst options in the history of the USA. Vote for a guy with cottage cheese where his brain used to be Vote for the most unpleasant woman since HRC to stand for POTUS. I thought they already said it's going to be a closed convention. That would be the safest option, but also the most cowardly, IMO. If they do hold a closed convention it means IMO that they are devoid of anything positive to offer, and are just trying to make it look like they are not already done as a party. If it's closed, the advertising rate isn't going to be high, as only Dem fanatics will bother watching, IMO.
