Do you believe in God and why
thaibeachlovers replied to ivor bigun's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
IMO humans hate nature as they try to destroy as much as possible of it. How much of the Brazilian rainforest survives and is not threatened with destruction so they can grow cows to provide hamburgers to Americans? It's irrelevant how much has been destroyed by natural causes, as that is a cyclic thing, eg forest fires to regenerate forests, not to destroy them. Volcanoes bring new material up to regenerate the surface as it is broken down. Any species that exceeds it's ability to survive by bad behaviour eg overbreeding, is culled, except for humans which exploit even more to survive. However, nature works on a feedback system, and humanity's time is almost done. IMO covid was a trial run and the next one or the one after that will do the trick. You think nature is destroying, but that is from a human's point of view, and to nature it is renewal and regeneration. Extinction is a natural event, as it breeds stronger species. Only humans let the genetically weak survive, which only weakens the species as they reproduce weaker offspring. -
IQ is one of those things that other people do. I've never been tested and happily have no idea of what it would be. Makes no difference to my life whatever it is, and likewise with the Thais, happy with life as it is and not looking for some farang to tell them that they are unhappy, ignorant and need to "do better". I think if I were a Thai and some farang turned up and told me I was ignorant, I'd give him a good kicking in the ignorants.

After reading page three one wonders how long this thread will survive. I know it's the AN pub, but in a real pub there would be blood spilt by now.
-
If you really get exercised about abuse of the norm, IMO you are on the wrong forum. Depending on the topic it's always been that way, and I had to put loads of posters on ignore just to be able to read a certain topic without feeling nauseated by some of the comments.

Chill, it's the AN pub, not the UN.

I'm the other way. Before I found Thailand I thought that a s****y life was the norm so no point getting too stressed about it, but when I found out about how life could/ should be I got pretty angry at how most of my life I was exploited and abused by those that should have been helping and supporting me. I'm also sad that much of my life was a complete waste because I didn't know any better. Take nursing- I thought I was doing a good thing by helping the sick and dying, when all along I was just being bullied, exploited and generally a fool for putting up with it when I could have been minting it in the Aussie mines. My relationship likewise, exploited and abused by the ones that should have loved me for it, and a fool for accepting my exploitation till even I could see how bad my situation had become. I loved Thailand, a place where it was obvious who was exploiting who and up to me to go along with it to my benefit, or not. A happy state of affairs till I had visions of true love- a fool once more and lived to regret it.

What has that to do with the title of the thread?
-
I didn't expect that when I clicked on this thread. Not in hock to the zealots- good for him, though I suspect he didn't really mean it, when he talks about "net zero" which IMO is a nonsense parroted by those that stand to mint it from the charade. Despite doing sod all to protect the rain forests of the world, which are vanishing at an alarming rate, in the past.

Israel is at War - General discussion (pt2)
thaibeachlovers replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Israel
Apparently even the Jews for Peace demonstrating in the US have been accused of being anti Semitic. https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/11/why-jewish-voice-for-peace-is-against-israels-war-in-gaza.html The group’s critics have been largely unmoved by the group’s professions of faith, dismissing JVP and its allies as a fringe minority at best and, at worst, as cynically using Jewish identity to fight against other Jews. For them, Zionism and Judaism go hand in hand, and the response to JVP actions from their fellow Jews who support Israel has at times been vitriolic. After recent JVP actions in New York, some online commentators accused the protesters of self-hatred, calling them “garbage Jews,” “tokens,” and “kapos” — a gravely serious accusation that recalls Jews who collaborated with the Nazis. -

They said that to me as well, and for all I know they still are, even though I don't see their posts any more. -

It's that sort of post that I put them on ignore for, but they don't seem to realise that we don't have to put up with insults anymore, as ignore is just a click away. -

Of course he can't, and it's used to try and make us shut up and slink away, so doesn't matter that it's not true. -
Israel is at War - General discussion (pt2)

I see the old "if you support Palestinians that resist the israeli illegal occupation and land theft then you must be a Hamas supporter" attack is still being used. Sad. If a thousand or so israelis killed by Hamas is an atrocity, what is 6,000 dead children and thousands more children injured, if not an attrocity? -

Congratulations on a post that is actually thoughtful, and not the usual israel good, Hamas and all Gazans need to be killed type of post I'm used to seeing. However, to answer your last paragraph, IMO it's because we don't like to see 2.3 million people that have been confined to what has to be the largest open air jail on the planet slaughtered by israeli and American bombs from safety high in the sky. The phrase "shooting fish in a barrel" applies here with bells on. The Gazans have no army, no air defense, hardly any military structure at all to resist ( Hamas is a small group armed with rifles and RPGs, no tanks, no artillery, no Iron Dome etc, and is hardly an "army" ), and now they have no hospitals to speak of, can't get clean water, even food is a problem, and they have no means of escape to anywhere, so all they can do is try and dig their dead children and women out of the rubble with hammers and bare hands while the slaughter continues. There is no equivalent in Ukraine; they have best weapons the west can send them, and they can certainly run away to another country. Perhaps they are victims of their own success in halting the Russian advances. They are not "us" and they are holding their own, so why would the common man with enough problems of their own go and demonstrate for that unfortunate country? Many of us don't like to see the laws that are supposed to govern conflict so brazenly flouted- the israelis don't even try to abide by the humanitarian laws, and simply ignore any protest. It's just so blatantly unfair to use a huge army armed with tanks, artillery, bombers etc to crush a mostly unprotected population with no escape, so while israel will win the conflict ( I won't call it a war ), they are going to get a hiding in world public opinion. The world has been watching, and is not impressed. -
Geert Wilders' victory in Netherlands election spooks Europe

Bye bye, it's been real. -
It might work with one so young at the start. My two were 8 and 10. If I could go back, I'd never even consider taking up with their mother again. Looking back on the episode, the biggest regret is that I never had a time with the woman without the children taking preference over me. I certainly didn't get involved with her so I could pay for her children, but it was a hard learned lesson

The only curse of modern life NZ has not succumbed to ( so far ) is illegal immigration, simply because it's too far away to get to on a leaky rubber boat and NZ does not have an island conveniently close to get to either. So the excessive immigration is happening legally. -
Here we go again. Self inflicted injury, and hopes other people will bail him out. Ah, the arrogance of a foreigner that denigrates the locals for being "primitive", despite a bum gun being superior to wiping one's nether region with paper.

You are really pushing it and I have no idea why you seem to thank that because disasters happen in nature that it's OK for humans to wreak destruction on the planet. humans, who are a natural product of natural evolutionary processes. LOL. Humans ceased to be a "natural product" when they chose to use their intelligence to destroy the environment in a way they were not capable of as mere animals. Do lions make plastic to pollute the oceans? -

Actually, we have a high standard of living ( for anyone with money, but not for the poor ) despite the governments inflicted on us, because we were a sparsely populated country with industrious farmers that earned a great deal of overseas income. The previous government was bent on destroying the farming community, which would be akin to cutting our own throat, as planting loads of trees for carbon sequestration money would not support the rapidly ( due to excessive immigration ) expanding population. Every city is rapidly becoming horrible to live in as population growth has reduced road traffic to a mere snail's pace. I really hate having to go to the city now.
