  1. Money money money. Less climbers less money. Not hard to understand why they allow so many.
  2. Errrr, Hillary and Norgay used oxygen. Are you calling them little boys? Otherwise I agree that all climbs to the peak should be done the same way as they did it- no ladders, fixed ropes etc.
  3. would put his foot down immediately. Not many women would tolerate such behavior from their ( soon to be divorced ) husband.
  4. IMO might be far easier to do it in one or other of your own countries. How difficult is it to do in the Philippines? Can 2 foreigners actually get married at an amphur anyway? I'd have thought that would only apply if one was Thai. Sounds to me like it'd have to be done at an embassy. If it's the ceremony you want, don't need to get married in Thailand for that, and the ceremony has no legal standing anyway.
  5. 555555555555555555555 Are you overlooking the reason why so many guys want to retire in LOS? For the food, sure sure????
  6. LOL. They had Thai prostitutes on the back when I was there. I felt sorry for them being put at risk by idiots.
  7. I didn't need to read the OP to know the nationality of the miscreants. They were a pest even 10 years ago, and made it hazardous crossing the road in that area. They need the m'bikes confiscating and a hefty fine. Even jail time would be good.
  8. That's unfortunate about having to take 3 days- I see why guys might resort to an agent now- 3 days hotel stay isn't cheap if living outside Bkk. I guess I was lucky- all done in one day. I don't get the rush to get married though- she's not going to change her mind, is she?
  9. Oh dear, posting with too little information. What I was saying was long after we left the village and living far from the family in Lamphun. Dead meat- I think not. I liked the village life and would have stayed there but for annoying nephews that she refused to do anything about. By putting her nephews above me she sowed the seeds of our eventual divorce.
  10. and they told you? Frankly I doubt they'd say if they had a big debt. They would surely understand that telling a newly hooked ATM that telling him he'd be paying a big debt off would not be conducive to a continuing relationship.
  11. In my case, I wouldn't have minded so much if she had kept her side of the bargain and had sex. Paying and no honey is not going to make the sucker happy. We were not, IMO, put on planet Earth to support other men's children.
  12. I'm with him. It's not as though they are not expecting farang to be ATM and support someone else's kids. I supported another man's kids for years, but I was stupid back then- lesson learned.
  13. Lots of police checks. LOL. In all my years riding in Chiang Mai and in the village only had one police check. In the village the cops were invisible outside the station. In Lamphun the only "checks" were every morning to make money off riders without helmets. I used to watch riders put a helmet on before riding through the check point and taking it off after going through. Can't say I've noticed much "traditional rational Thai girl driving" while in LOS, though older riders were more cautious than schoolgirls. I never let my wife drive with me in the car because she became a nutter on the road.
  14. 2 doctors I worked with in London got smashed up while riding m'bikes, and both very serious responsible characters.
  15. Unless she's his daughter the OP has no obligation to pay 200 baht for her let alone 200k. Would any of us buy a child of another man a car back home?
  16. Welcome to forum life. In my experience many posters ask a question and are never heard from again. As for the kids, does any guy really want to be paying to support another man's offspring?
  17. The option I'd have taken, if I could go back, would be a village wedding. Keeps the outsiders happy and no legal obligations should one decide to leave her.
  18. Agree. My life with the wife was bliss till she decided we should live in the village with part of the family- game over. However, after that, every time she attacked me ( verbally ) for some problem related to her family I was able to retort that "you shouldn't have made me leave Pattaya then!" She never had an answer to that.
  19. Sooooo, by your reckoning Fiji is not a country- population under 1 million. Fijians might object to that. https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/fiji-population/ The current population of Fiji is 915,986 as of Sunday, July 9, 2023, based on Worldometer elaboration of the latest United Nations data.
  20. I'm fascinated by all these tales of being expected to pay large for the entire extended family on a first visit. IMO nothing would be more assured to put an end to any long term relationship than such shenanigans. No such events happened when I first visited the village, nor even when I went to live there. I did eventually force a departure from there, but it was nothing to do with being expected to pay for the "privilege" of living in the dump.
  21. and......................................... It's got a better military than a much larger country I know well, and as many people living in it.
  22. IMO democracy is not what we get in reality, but IMO a democratically elected government ( Thaksin's ) was the worst thing to happen to Thailand in all the time I visited/ lived there. I was extremely happy when he was deposed and only regret he wasn't tried and executed. He still continues to cause problems all these years later.
  23. I actually set about gaining qualifications to work as a nurse in the USA, but when I found out that patients sued anyone they could for anything they could think of, even just for being in the room while the alleged infraction took place I gave that away and went to Saudi instead. Had different sorts of problems there, but at least I didn't have to worry about being sued every time I went to work.
