Huh????? I NEVER had a house or anything like that in LOS. I lost my one and only house to a woman, but in home country, and a western woman. In Thailand I rented or after married lived in the family house. My last year after divorce I lived in a very nice hotel ( owned by a Swiss guy ), all included for 15,000 baht a month and worth every baht. I was surprised how little I knew about being married to a Thai women till too late, and my advice to any farang not yet gone down that road is to rent, rent, rent.

Diabetes cases to double to 1.3 billion by 2050

It's only necessary to give up sugar. Otherwise one can eat most things. To claim that one has to go vegetarian is nonsense. -

Well said. IMO type 2 diabetes is very easy to avoid- don't get fat, do more physical work or exercise more, and most importantly STOP EATING SUGAR as much as possible. Being pre diabetic I had to give up sugar and lost 10 kg in a year without going on a diet or doing more exercise. I have not, thus far, progressed to diabetes. Sugar is IMO a toxic substance, but we all love to consume it. -
My marriage is heading south. Dont know what to do.

I agree that no one knows everything about anything, but not only did I live through several years of pre teen age children, till I got tired of being in a loveless relationship where I was regarded as some sort of free childcare sucker , but I also worked on a paediatric ward for a year post graduation, looking after children from birth till young teen age. So I think I might have a bit more insight than Joe Blogs who married a Thai woman and ended up having ( the perhaps inevitable ) conflicts over the child(ren) that perhaps he should not have had. -

I hadn't noticed that, but I've noticed that the threads that get most posts are the ones about bargirls and ladyboys, though the ladyboy ones seem to have been few in number for a couple of years. Certainly beat the ones asking where to buy a pizza or complaining that Thailand isn't like where they came from, and would be soooooo much better if only the cops enforced the laws ( it wouldn't be IMO ). As for the sad ones about failing farang/ Thai marriages, we've never really been short of them. I just wish I'd discovered the marriage and divorce sub forum BEFORE getting married. Life could have been so much better! -

But yes, I can definitely see how you can marry a foreign woman, have a child, and then one parent pushes the child to success, while the other parent goes along with it until they realize they're in a big mess that's hard to either fix or escape without severe family disruption. I think that version is more realistic. Sort of sad reading so many posts from guys that married a Thai woman and had a kid with her, but thought life was going to be the same as the <deleted> place they came from but didn't want to live in. I married a Thai and happy to say accepted that she was from a different culture and wasn't going to try and change that ( would have been pointless trying anyway ). Unfortunately, her mental challenges didn't become evident till a few years after we got married. -

Oh dear, another one that thinks they know it all about other posters based on a couple of posts. I may not have had my own genetic children but I was a stepfather of pre teen children for years. Any idea that I might like to be an actual father vanished permanently during that time. -

No, it doesn't, but not being educated guarantees no great job, or even a good job. -

I think that she is more concerned about having a son to support her in old age than she is about a farang husband that may not be around by then. -
Do you believe in God and why
thaibeachlovers replied to ivor bigun's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I recently watched a tv news item on Al Jazeera about the Euclid space probe to study dark energy. The scientist talking said that we know almost nothing about dark energy, which they think per fuses the universe, and scientists admit they don't understand why the matter in the universe is expanding faster rather than collapsing. YET, many on this thread have claimed they KNOW that God does not exist. LOL. As always, this post does not mean that I'm returning to post on the forum, though I have been doing so recently, which is not something I wish to do as much as I used to do. -
Bargirl is one of the few AI-Proof Professions

As someone that worked in health care for decades, a robot would be better than some of the people I worked with. Much of healthcare is just simple activities that could easily be done by robots, and if they "chatted" to the patients they'd be more beneficial than the overworked and burnt out humans that are so often found on hospital wards. During my training I was actually punished for talking to the patients. -

I look at the world as it is, not as I wish it would be. How else would I be anything but pessimistic? Put me on ignore if you don't like reading my posts. -
Why are Filipinos/Filipinas so friendly?
thaibeachlovers replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I worked with many Filipinas in Saudi and both genders in a London hospital. IMO they are no more friendly than any other race that I have worked with, and I've worked with at least 12 different races. Of course not everyone in any race is friendly, so only referring to those that were friendly. -

Humans IMO never do anything till it's too late, and IMO AI will be the end of humanity. -

That's the million $ question. Will AI be used to make life better for all, or will it be kept for the few behind impregnable walled refuges from the masses left outside with nothing? -

Agree. Looking at the human race objectively, most never do more than the same thing as everyone else around them. The number of people that come up with actually new ideas are a tiny minority. IMO most of the inventions that we use everyday were created by a few individuals, even if they were developed by others. -

I agree, it does not exist NOW, but it's coming, IMO. People nowadays are confused as what AI is, and think clever computers are AI, which they are not. IMO, to put it at the most simple, AI is a machine that can make autonomous decisions without needing any input, and it can learn without input from a human. Actually, to look at what humans are doing I wonder if some of us actually posses anything that could be described as intelligence! Even at the level of computing that already exists, seems that they are taking over much of what humans used to do, and they could do so much more. I'd like to see courts using computers instead of humans, as humans are always susceptible to emotion. If they got rid of lawyers, that would be a "good thing" IMO. -

I never told my wife what to do as I knew it would be a waste of time. The most I did was offer advice which she never took any notice of anyway. However, I didn't marry her to be telling her what to do. -

I agree in a perfect world, but we don't live in a perfect world. Way back ( many many years ago ) when I lived in Singapore, every year when the exam results came out, some students that failed were jumping off the high rises because they had no future. The OP, IMO, comes down to a clash of culture, and the OP isn't living in HIS culture. IMO by trying to stop his kid getting educational success she thinks he is working against the interests of the kid ( and her ) and it's not going to end well for him if he persists. IMO if he really can't take it he needs to leave both and not make the same mistake again. -

Sooooo, you want the kid to have a wonderful childhood and end up in some dead end job for the rest of it's life? IMO, in Asia success in life generally depends on success in school. That's because they don't take other people's money to support losers like in the west.- 224 replies

Every time I read a thread like this I thank the deity I never had a kid(s) with any women. My 2 relationships may have failed, but at least there weren't any small lives created by me to be ruined along with the disasters.- 224 replies

Sounds like normal for Asian child that has (a) parent(s) wanting them to succeed in life and be able to support them in old age. Perhaps she doesn't want the boy to end up working in 7 11 or some dead end job, and is doing what she believes is in the interest of the child's future. IMO if the OP doesn't like what is happening shouldn't have had the kid and probably shouldn't have married her- it's not his culture. IMO too many farang guys move to Thailand and marry, have a kid etc without making any attempt to understand the culture. IMO till farangs understand they are not living in THEIR culture this sort of problem will just keep on keeping on. -
Not if at amphur. That's down to the couple negotiating the terms which may not include division of assets. In my case there was no negotiation, and she got all the property I'd bought ( fridges, tv etc, not houses because I was wasn't that stupid to build her one ) and she got no more money from me.

Reason leaves the room when "love" comes in. Don't underestimate the power of hope in keeping on with a toxic relationship.
