Collective punishment is In violation of international law, and the only way they get away with is because they are supported by the USA. Now we have settlers attacking Palestinians in full view of the security forces. Reminds me of what happened to Jews in a different country last century. I suppose that's OK for you because they are only Palestinians. https://www.anews.com.tr/gallery/world/settlers-attack-palestinian-owned-houses-shops-in-west-bank A dozen settlers set an empty house ablaze and attacked a nearby house in the town of Turmus Ayya, east of Ramallah at midnight, Awad Abu Samra, the brother of a house owner, told the media outlets. "The attack took place under the watch of Israeli army forces, which were only 150 meters away from the scene," he said. and then there is this. https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2022/12/israel-un-experts-condemn-record-year-israeli-violence-occupied-west-bank GENEVA (15 December 2022) – UN experts* condemned the rampant Israeli settler violence and excessive use of force by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank this year that have made 2022 the deadliest in this area of the occupied Palestinian territory since the United Nations started systematically documenting fatalities in 2005. 150 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank by Israeli forces so far this year, including 33 children**. In addition, a boy was killed by either Israeli forces or Israeli settlers who were firing side-by-side. IMO it is just a matter of time before world leaders can't accept it any more and do something despite the US cover for Israel. It's shameful, IMO that they have not done anything this far.

Tell that to the Romans. https://www.britannica.com/place/Palestine/Roman-Palestine The province of Judaea was renamed Syria Palaestina (later simply called Palaestina) Tell that to the League of Nations https://www.britannica.com/topic/history-of-Palestine League of Nations mandate of Palestine under British rule.

My wish is for the Palestinians to live free in their own country. Why should I be careful about that?
-
I don't think war or terrorism are OK, but I also think if the UN takes land that Palestinians have lived on for centuries and gives it to someone else, and that someone else deprives Palestinians the right to live on the land the UN left for them to live on, there are going to be consequences for the people occupying the land illegally. Many countries say the Israelis are illegally occupying the west bank and East Jerusalem, but because the US vetoes every resolution against them in the UN they get away with it. At a time when the western world is aiding a certain country to resist an invader, seems "strange" to me that the western world is ignoring the same thing been going on somewhere else since 1967. If another country invaded your country, would you meekly accept it. If they humiliated you daily, would you accept it, if they took away your hope for a life in freedom, would you accept it, or would you fight against the invader?
-
What are you on about? The Palestinians had a country and had been living on it for centuries, till the UN took it away from them. No wonder they rejected the offer of being able to live on a smaller area. Jordan ruled the area till the UN took the land, and they were not happy about it either.

The reasons they were killed is surely relevant, which includes the occupation, and the illegal settlements?

Correct. On that basis the north American continent belongs to the Native Americans that lived there for at least 20,000 years, which is way longer than 2,000. Somehow, I don't think they are going to get it back though. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2017/10/a-brief-history-of-everyone-who-ever-lived/537942/ The latest radio-dating analysis of the remnants of lives in the Bluefish Caves indicates that people were there 24,000 years ago. These founding peoples spread over 12,000 years to every corner of the continents and formed the pool from which all Americans would be drawn until 1492.
-
You need to tell that to Mac Mickmanus that claims occupation 3,000 years ago gives it a "right" to the land today.
-
Try and get your claim correct. Less than 2,000 years. The earliest Jews in Judea was about 1200 BC, and basically all gone after Muslim conquest in 7th century, So less than 2,000 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_and_Judaism_in_the_Land_of_Israel

and if any innocent people get killed along with them that's OK is it?
-
So that is OK then? Seems you don't put much stock in Palestinian lives- all terrorists or something, so OK for them to be killed? Resist arrest? Knowing what would happen to them if they just gave up what else could they do?

10 Palestinians. Including a woman that was no part of the group being attacked. https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/10-palestinians-killed-in-deadliest-israel-raids-in-years-3727752 Among those confirmed dead in Jenin was Majeda Obeid, 61, who lived some metres from the house targeted by the Israeli forces. Her daughter, Kefiyat Obeid, told AFP her mother was shot as she peered out her window at the clashes. According to Al Jazeera, the Israelis used anti tank weapons in a residential area and destroyed a house.
-
They were shot in retaliation for the 10 Palestinians killed a few days back. That's what happens when one nation illegally occupies another's land, collectively punishes them for any attempt to free themselves from the occupiers, and gives them no hope for freedom. Lock up millions of people for decades, and the result is entirely forseeable. Give a people no hope and they have nothing to lose. The PA has withdrawn all co operation with the occupying government, so expect more such. One could expect the Israelis to know what Hosea 8:7 says “For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.”. They have sown the wind, and the whirlwind is coming.

Germany set to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, Der Spiegel reports

As for the Patriot, I was astounded at the cost. Given that a relatively cheap drone can carry a bomb load, IMO the Russians only need to send enough drones to make the cost to the US taxpayer beyond what will be acceptable. One wonders how much it will take to see a rebellion among US taxpayers at the price for supporting Ukraine, given the Russians are not threatening to invade the US? Real life is never simple. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/what-is-patriot-missile-defense-system-2022-12-21/ WHAT DOES IT COST? A newly produced single Patriot battery costs over $1 billion, with $400 million for the system and $690 million for the missiles in a battery, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank. -

Without the Abrams likely the Leopards would not be approved, and IMO the French tank makers want a piece of the money too. Seems no one is even mentioning the British tanks now. Perhaps because IMO so obviously a token gesture. -
Millions forced to skip meals as UK cost of living crisis deepens

Ah, playing the old "misogynist" card in hopes of shutting him down I see. Happily that sort of woke deflection doesn't work any more. -

They started by giving things like helmets, but are now up to battle tanks and possibly F16s. Sure seems like trying to escalate it into a NATO conflict. -

Wow! I should have become an Australian citizen. Over the ditch pensioners get sod all help on GP visits or medications unless we are basically destitute. I do get free travel on buses at certain times of the day, and some businesses give discounts to pensioners but not all. No hope of getting social housing with thousands of families living in motels at taxpayer expense, and the very few places that cater for pensioners are always full. Of course the UK is even better, with social housing, free GP visits and medications. Unfortunately living in the UK does not appeal. -

Seems the debate has come down to 2 sides. On one side are those that didn't think the good times would last forever, and allowed for things getting bad, by planning, not taking out loans on housing that they couldn't afford if interest rates went up, not taking on too much debt, and saving as much as possible. On the other side are those that thought the good times would last forever, took on massive mortgages, bought expensive cars, took lots of exotic holidays, and lived the good life, but saved sod all. So, when it quite foreseeably went bad, the former are able to survive, while the latter blame the government and everyone else for their problems. -
Germany now confirms it WILL send 14 Leopard Tanks !

Perhaps the Israelis know something about the situation that causes them to not support Ukraine. They certainly know a lot about fighting. Interesting bit about the US needing to take munitions from stockpiles in Israel- perhaps the US is running out of ammunition to send to Ukraine. -

I see it differently. They know that sending enough tanks to do the job would really enrage Russia, so by sending a token number IMO they hope it will satisfy those demanding tanks being sent, while not making Russia really get busy in Ukraine. I'm pretty sure that the guys that really control the allied war contributions know that to go too far will end very badly for all of us. -

It takes the Brits a while to get to that stage, but eventually they may do so. Took the nurses almost a century after the NHS was created to go on strike, but they got there in the end. -

Entirely relevant. The amount of wealth a nation generates is X. If the rich 10% get 90% of X, that leaves the other 90% of the population to share 10% of X. -
Treasury secretary warns US could default on its debt as soon as June

Will robotics change employment yes. You will no longer have menial repetitive jobs performed manually. However consider this. If machines were able to produce everything required for mankind, food, clothing, shelter, cars etc. NO ONE WOULD BE ABLE TO PURCHASE THEM BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT HAVE ANY INCOME SINCE THEY DIDN'T HAVE A JOB. I am 100% aware of that, and it could be utopia where no one needs to work to obtain all they need, but I suspect the rich will never give up their privileged life so all can live as well as they. Imagine a world where all can become poets, or artists, or musicians etc etc etc because they don't need to do a boring job to survive. I have a darker idea of what will happen with millions of exploited struggling to survive while the rich live in gated communities guarded by militarised private police forces. Perhaps it won't come to that- perhaps climate change will kill us all, or the war in Ukraine ( or the next one ) results in nuclear winter, or we just pollute ourselves to extinction.
